  • WHERE exactly is her steroid taking recorded?? TELL ME!! what kind of information do you have??? do you have any prove whatsoever?? i believe you haven´t! you just must be jealous of this geourgus lady who is the best skater that has ever been seen. NO ONE put up a performance like her...ok others do a lot more difficult jumps, but this is figure skating - not jump skating, but you are probably not even able to understand where i come from.....she was brilliant!!!

  • Give me a video like this over any other very technical, but no artistry video any day. Yes, her program may be considered "easy" by today's standards, but to me, this shows a lot of classic skating skills that many skaters today lack.

  • I think Peggy Fleming said it best at 2:36 "one minute and 16 seconds goes by without her doing any difficult jumps or any difficult spins."

  • Elizabeth Manley should have won in my opinion

  • the most polished, fasted, nuanced performance. every move was perfectly matched to the music

  • The costume is iconic; but they needed to match the color of the sheer net illusion on the plunging front and back necklines to her skintone better. She has very fair skin, and the sheer illusion is too orangey for her skin. To make matters worse, her stockings are yet another color, sort of a darker brown. So you have three different flesh tones going on: her fair natural skin on her hands, face and neck; the orangey sheer illusion on the plunging necklines, and the darker brown stockings.

  • she won it on her sweet ass you clowns...and thats good enough for the likes of me and millions more...deal with it.

  • @worldcoup what is this song???

  • It is a fact that Katarina Witt was a steroid user ! All these ridiculous comments about her losing her chest ( if she were taking drugs) well to go along with that stupidity - that is probably why she had so much of a chest in 94, when she was off the roids for 6 years !.... anyway... it is also a fact that both Ito and Manley should have been ahead of her in the long program. Only Manley was, if Ito was as well - then Manley would have won gold !

  • @westfaner I agree with you ! I mean it is a fact not fiction !

  • @zedlacredit Exactly, the East German kept extensive records, many of which survived the colaspe of the state. She was refered to as the "star", and her steroid taking is well documented. She was a knowingly taking drugs, as well as willingly co-operating with the state. Which her family befinited greatly from.

  • @jhecht424 - I was thinking the same thing. Katarina's skating reminds me of the over-the-top, damatic ice dancing seen by the Russina ice danc Natalia Bestemianova, who, along with her partner, Andre Bukin, won the gold in '88 in ice dancing.

  • i thought Witt deserved the gold overall. Besides Manleys triple lutz her spins and presentation were def. inferior to Witt's

  • she was the best - a deserved gold medal considering her achievements in the comulsory, the short and the long program - you have to face all three of them in order to judge about it at all. yes, she did the best performances all over. i admire the way shie did the carmen - no one ever did a better interpretation. guess she knew about the opera and the story of "carmen" all over - as already mentioned a deserved gold medal - kati you are the best, always have been....

  • I agree that Liz and Midori were completely robbed, but this is still a worthy free skate... not that risky, but you have to give that ending the credit it deserves. At least it wasn't like 72' or 80' when the winner only won because of their Figures' score. Witt has some serious style! I think even if Debi hadn't shat the bed during her LP she didn't really have a chance. Her Carmen was boring!

  • @Junon999 Sorry but in 1980 the winner won because of vote trading, or if you will poor judging, Anet`s short program was a mess, and horrible, but the judging held her up to 4th or 5th, when she really should have been 9th or 10th.Here the judges decided to hold Katarina up in 2nd place in the long program, when really she should have been 3rd, which would have given Manley the Gold.

  • @shottut Sister you are preaching to the choir on that one!

  • Granted it's beautiful presentation, but average technical skating at best. Kati won in '88 because of luck and nothing else. I think she would have been better suited for ice dancing.

  • One of the absolutly best competitions in skating ever !

No chance for Manley, Thomas and Ito and all the others.

    Danke, Kati !

  • @222mozart I agree, it was one of if not the best ladies events ever. However, I strongly believe that the Gold should have gone to Liz Manley here. Ito should have placed 2nd on the Free, fractionally above Witt and this would have ensured Manley winning. Katarina had a lovely skate but not in the same league as her 1987 Worlds performance. Also think that Manley should have won Worlds 88 but the judges gifted Witt by placing her 1st after figures which was just wrong. Bring back the old 6.0

  • I'm entitle to my opinion so STFU you stupid cunt!

  • Comment removed

  • @Kevinsf You're a complete idiot, and know nothing about sport ... especially the sport of figure skating if you believe that !!!!

  • Kartarina has the look but for sure, her athletic ability on ice is nothing compared to Midori Ito. Afterall, this is a sport, not theatre.

  • 1:27 not a very good landing at all -

  • Witt has extremely inferior quality to her jumps, ultra simple combos and at least in this program even a faulty double axel. A competitor, she was...frankly she psyched out many of her competitors - of course the figures really mixed up the ordinals. Witt was really a relic of the old school of woman's figure skating whereas Manley and Debi were more progressive. There were lots of other women skaters in the 1980's who were much better than Witt ever was. Not impressive.

  • @ihatedfigures Where was the faulty double axel?

  • @ihatedfigures Actually, although the jumps she did were not the most difficult, her execution of the jumps that she did do (granted they were the easier jumps) was extremely well done. Technically sound, smooth edges, and very high and strong. I don't know what you are looking at.

  • did you ever heard something about cumpolsory and a short programm?? guess you don´t.....guess you don´t have any hunche of figure skating at all....

all in all she was the best - no matter what you think about her, she´s got the gold medal, no matter what some amateur thinks about her.....no hostile comment will ever change the fact that she´s a two time olympic champion and everyone who has figure skating skills would agree that she was the best......probably the best ever....

  • I remember thinking that this was sort of boring, and unimpressive 88, I am still not move by this, I never found Katarina to be very artistic at all, a good actress on the ice no doubt.

  • @karrtt1234 whut.. you are contradicting yourself

  • @karrtt1234 i remember seeing this at age 8 and thinking how unique and strange it was.. i remembered it for years until i saw her again at age 14 in 1994.. this program made me a life long figure skating fan. the drama, the costume, the music, the sharp choreography. freeze any second of this and its picture perfect

  • Another East German Steroid Queen... the star..Kataroida !

  • LA MAS BELLA PATINADORA DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS. THE QUEEN

  • She IS Carmen!

  • That was entertainment! I think she is one of the few people who skated to this that has actually watched the Opera!

  • Luck?! Katerina Witt was a great champion and had a helluva free skate in Calgary. She deserved the gold, winning the battle of the Carmens hands-down, although a clean skate by Debi would've given her a run for her money... and the gold!

  • @UESyorkie She might have won the battle of the carmens... but she was not a deserving gold medalist... and this program was completely inferior to Manley and Ito for sure !!

  • @shottut I agree completely. Ito should have placed 2nd on the Free above Witt and this would have given the gold to Manley. I was a big fan of Katarina but honestly feel that Liz was robbed of Gold in Calgary.

  • @shottut yawn. u cant win olympic gold based on a free skate. it was called figure skating for a reason then.

  • @koolaidnhemlock Well obviously you can with steroids, and vote trading ! Katarina Witt is living proof of both @

  • @yescanto Not with Compulsory Figures which require so much control. I do believe there were 2 factors at play here -- she was adored by the judges and have been scored well during CF, & the ISU from 1980 to 1990 began limiting selection of the type of figures used during the World and Olympic competitions. By 1988, the paragraph loop was practically used in both men's and ladies' events every season, letting skaters get so much practice time with each figure. Had there been a bigger variety

  • @yescanto Besides, if she were on steroids at all, her breasts would have shrunk and she would have the proper upper body strength to do the other triple jumps, maybe even the triple Axel!

  • perfect!!

  • a mais linda apresnetação de todas !!!!
