The Nvidia 7950 was a suckers card, basically it was an old core with a new paint job. The card was simply put: terrible. The 8600GT is the better card and you are right. With way more features packed in, not to mention HD-BLU RAY playback in HD, but DX10 compatibility is a huge feature as well that the 7950 lacks. Newer technology is USUALLY better.
You are aiming at the sky, where the least is being rendered, and you are still barely getting a smooth frame rate. To consider running those settings in a firefights, it would be impossible. Pripyat would get below 15 FPS or even 10.
i got a 8600GT .. works fine .. too bad it is overtaken by 7600GT .. has better core clock ... i tried to overclock it ... and the FPS got worse :|... (i changed only the core clock .. not the memory... is that the prb? is there any relations between core and memory?)

Seriously i think half the people on this website would recommend you try it the storyline isnt the best but the monsters and other strange things about the game make up for it and it has very good gameplay and some good mods for it too that should've been in the origional final game but overall give it a try and you might wanna take a look at Stalker: Clear Sky too. :D

Yea I have the 512 as well. It's got a bigger beefier heatsink, quieter, and a little bit faster. I dont know if it was worth the extra 50... but I love it.

P4's arent bad people are just bias against them now just like they are when i mention my old AMD Athlon FX-53 running with an ATI X850XT 256mb OverClocked and 1GB Ram. Sure its obviously slower than todays stuff but my old computer still gets in the 80's in fps for Half life 2 with all graphics maxed out including HDR and Oblivion is very playable to. Obviously my Quad Core comp destroys it in performance but as long as my old comp stays above 30's FPS in games im happy.

dude i love ur vid but can you try testing ur fps in a heavy firefight but ur fps is very respectable. try adding one more 8600gt u should get more than double the fps i have pair of sli-ed 8600gt and they run all games at max VERY well. good luck:)

the 7600gt doesnt overtake the 8600gt at all- and in newer games that gap widens even further between the 7600 and 8600gt's.
