  • SUOMIIIIIIIIIIIII!!! PERKELE

  • fun, fun, money, splash and condoms, ribbon lost my wagon.....wtf?

  • lol

  • Dat serious face.

  • Wittgenstein-Klasik-Blues.

  • i hope this is a troll

  • Sounds a little bit like the soviet anthem.

  • A really great takedown of all of philosophy and Wittgenstein in particular.

'Whereof you cannot speak you must keep silent.'

How very wise and thoughtful that sentence is; innit?!!!

Philosophy might be the mother of all sciences. But it's still but a joke. Hardly any better than mere religion.

  • @dogofman

Says the person who clearly knows very little of contemporary analytic philosophy...

  • @Huesos138

What is there to know really.

I mean; as long as there's real science in existence.

Only mere thoughtfarts from Wittgenstein an his likes.

  • 20 people understand nothing about singing

  • Good video

  • M.A. Numminen sings Wittgenstein is great.

  • Thank you.

  • Bang up job by Pedro @ the piano!

  • Numminen PERKELE!

  • from finland!!! :D

  • so terrible.

  • I would like to know how often Kant masturbated and if he was able to hide this from his servant Mr. Lampe.

  • hîhi_pâsst_hîér_nèt_rêìñ_åbä_îch_bïn_sö_èïnsam_wìll_jémàñd_mît_mìâ_schrêïbèn

  • i like it... new discovery for me

  • hilarious

  • What's the point? That Wittgenstein was an idiot?

    Or is it just random?

Can someone explain? I don't know MA Numminem aside from this :P

  • @Ptrrrrrrrr

Wittgenstein was a moral philosopher and a predicate logicist. M. A. Numminen is a Finnish artist. What did you miss?

  • @Pakanahymni I just mean what's funny? How is it clever? What's the idea? Or is there none?

I know Wittgenstein quite well, I'm a student of philosophy. Just don't know the thought process behind this piece.

  • @Ptrrrrrrrr

Dide someone say this is supposed to be funny or clever?

  • @Pakanahymni So what is it supposed to be? Beauitful? L'art pour l'art?

    I'm becoming very confused :(

  • @Ptrrrrrrrr I dont understand german language so that part goes over my head...

But i do know M A Numminen, and He has great sense of humor.

Just take this, as these random videos You stumble on You Tube.

  • @ari1234a

Wovon man nicht sprechen kann darüber muss man schweigen=Mistä ei voi puhua, siitä on vaiettava.

  • Ludwig Wittgenstein.

  • Please take a close look at the pianist and his efforts in this song. By doing so, you'll learn something essential about classical culture and all things highly admired.

Oh, by the way, if you didn't have the energy: he just sits there.

  • made by commodore

  • I LOVE IT! thanks for this!!!

  • delicious!!!

  • die stimme kenn ich doch von toons ?

  • Still better than Bieber.

  • hahaha, for serious? xD

  • There's a documentary film about M. A. Numminen in the making, you can see the trailer here on YouTube.

  • I love Wittgenstein as I love Numminen's parody of the intellectual elitism around Wittgenstein after his death by people who quote his great one-liners without any real understanding of his philosophy apart from those. Numminen here is the "serious intellectual" in all proper upper-class setup.

Wittgenstein is a super-legend but really understood by not so many.

  • @Jaakk0S Thanks for sorta explaining what this song is about. I had no clue. I am only familiar with Wittgenstein as a student of philosophy.

  • This is NOT a joke, this could be hilariously funny and you may laugh at it, but a joke is this not.

  • @Tigeraquaonvoimakone

M.A. Numminen on ehkä hienoin ruotsalainen suomalainen viroa ja saksaa ja suomea ja ruotsia laulava artisti.

  • Simply Hilarious and Amazing. To be able to sing like that I would give my eye teeth. LOL.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Neroutta.

  • hilarious, the aestethic reminds me of don van vilet aka captain beefheart

  • ... aber das ist gut - eikun parasta!

  • Tämä on todella hyvä.

  • Though I must mention that his antics as an underground performer shadow his numerous high culture achievements way too often. Singing like that is just a fraction of what he does.

  • Oh man, this is art! Brilliant!

  • brilliant

  • Hammer wie geil ist das denn bitte!! Gleich mal volle 5 Punkte!

  • No ollahan sitte hilijaksseen vaan... Ei mulla paljjoo sanomista oliis ollukkaan...

  • Und aus!

  • HURZ!!!

  • Wie bitte?

  • So "if you can't say it, you must be quiet" or something...

What is the point of all that? Pure nonsense I would say! Nice video tough.

  • @xjuhox

Line is from Tractatus logico-philosophicus by Wittgenstein.

"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be quit".

Meaning that some sentences appear to be correctly formed by their syntax, yet lack any meaning. Such propositions should not be stated at all, as they cannot give rise to meaningful discussion (ie. their truth value cannot be determined).

  • Genius. To say the least.

  • Niemcy i wszystko jasne.

  • Singing beautiful art!

  • hahha geil

  • :D:D

  • Surely one of the most underestimated artists of our times, thank you for posting!

  • @moolox hmm how do you mean that? I though he is just one of the "humppa guys" who make this show just for fun. Or do the people only understand his kind of acting wrong? I am from Germany and therefor don't know Numminen that good...

  • @arschwurst11 Hallo!

  • @arschwurst11

He is an avantgarde pioneer in Finland. He sings like that because..well, he wants to annoy people.

  • @Aivottaja

Bo, he sings like that, because he is a rabbit. :D

  • On muuten ihan OIKEASTI kaunis, hauska ja uljas musiikkiteos. Nummisen paras ihan takuulla

  • Ei näitä VOI vertailla keskenään, kaikki omalla tavallaan nerokkaan mahtavia! Omat ehdottomat suosikkini ovat mm. "Munat jäi vetoketjun väliin" ja "Laulu jossa on tunnelma"! Kannattaa kuunnella!

  • Eiks Laulu jossa on tunnelma ollu Suomen talvisodan se yks helevetin psykedeelinen biisi? Ne on kyllä parhaita.

  • Löytyy tuubista, kokeilehan! Aivan mahtava!

  • Kuuntelin. On hieno.

  • Mauri Antero takes it home. Like always:D So talented, but so underestimated artist!

  • dude, this is cash

  • konstig

  • WHAT THE FUCK

  • nice floor

  • ahhhhhhhh here the mushroom noise voice

  • Fortfarande underbar. Hurra för Numminen!

  • lol

  • Pedroko tuossa pienon ääreen istahtaa?

  • Kyllä se Pedrolta näyttää mun mielestä näyttää.

  • Finnish music at its best....

  • das bringt alles auf den punkt!!!!!

  • ALTER!!! damit hab ich nich gerechnet^^

  • Is there an album by MA Numinem with the entire Tractatus? I heard of something like that a while ago but I can only find this song.

  • Yes, there is. I've got a copy dedicated by Numminen to the civil name of Marathon-du-Médoc-participant and cartoonist Tex Rubinowitz. If anyone cares.

  • Haha, wtf??

    What a beautiful voice xD

  • HAHAHA XD

  • Numminen on jumala!!

  • Greatest tenor of our time.

  • Not Thor's voice at all, no...

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL :DDDDDD

  • That is the only song that needs to be sung.

  • ...it would be nice to see & hear something from the band SUOMEN TALVISOTA 1939-40...

  • hab ich gelacht ey ;-)

  • is it me or is this thing funny?

  • The German original lyrics are translated into English in the very beginning: "What we cannot speak about we must consign to silence", or: "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent", the final and concluding proposition of Wittgensteins "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus".

  • Would you kindly translate the lyrics-- many thanks in advance!

  • I couldn't agree more. Would someone, please, translate the lyrics? :(

  • Numminen and Wittgenstein, a match made in heaven.

  • Excelent, the music don´t infinite, this vocal experiment others alternatives, he has good musical arguments.

  • I think the melody is great and the strange singing style of M. A. gives this performance more idea. Great.

  • One of the great Tenors of our time!M.A have a timber voice that is a pleasure for our souls!May he soon came back to Gothenburg again and give us joy!

  • The Finnish culture says that all things should to be observed by one's own eyes and heart. Just memorizing what others have said is thin, without spirit, almost better left undone - thus the singing style which is disrespectful toward the highly respected theory but gives room to Your own perceptions about life.

  • nööööööööööööööööö du doieu fertu asofn fnöö boer24 ichze

  • lol hahahahahahahah XD

  • Finlands's performance in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009

  • Speaking o the crystal-night. Wittgenstein, the great philosopher was so hated by another student in his class, that this student commited genocide as revenge. The reason?

He was smarter, came from a wealthier family and he was jewish. The hateful students name was Adolf Schicklgruber..

  • They weren't in the same class - Wittgenstein was two years senior to Hitler and consequently left the school after Hitler had only spent one year there. They might not even have known each other. Also, Hitler was born Hitler (perhaps with a spelling variation), not Schicklgruber.

  • correct. but zura's story is fun literary speculation, though!

  • is this normal?

  • oh yes it is.

  • You can't get more normal than this :P

  • A five star performance. Who would have thought that such a profound thought could be sung so eloquently. :)

  • Sehr abgefahren!

  • haha my moms cousin :DD

  • best ever

  • this guy has a funny voice

  • god damn look at he hair

  • One of the great TENORS of our Time!!

  • This is by far the best song I know at the moment! It is sooo good. MA Numminen is a genius!

  • This is just so.. Charismatic :D Even tho, it surprised me a lot how he made his sound like, but actually. Like it a lot ;)

  • Han är bara såå bra

  • Great stuff! Numminen is the best.

  • Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.

  • Alles, was man wissen muss.

  • he's my relative :D!!my mothers cousin!:D:D he's just the best. M.A.Numminen

  • Absolutely fantastic. Numminen did a whole album with pieces of wittgenstein in different musical styles. I think it's called Numminen sings Wittgenstein.

  • I wish they had passed over in silence.

  • wow, I wasn't expecting that voice.

  • haha great.

se him live when i was kid , some 30 years ago in sweden, liked him ever since

  • ohh backe

  • This sentence is one of the most beautiful in all language. And it is probably the most important in all philosophy. I find this video offensive

  • In what way offensive? Take it as a joke!

  • Yeah relly beatiful :DDDD. it so obvious

  • Don't take it as an insult. The song is a homage to Wittgenstein. Listen to the melodies and the choir: they praise Wittgenstein. And just because the singing style of Numminen is strange, doesn't mean this isn't very - I must say - beautiful performance. And in his own, twisted ways, Numminen sings very good.

Of course this song has also humor, but I think it's not just a joke.

  • i'm offended, iddyupmty by your being offended by something inoffensive. and i think youre right, it's a beautiful sentence!

  • Absolutely ridiculous sound! :-) Is Numminem the Finnish Weird Al Yankovic?

  • Could say so, yes. He's famous - in multilevel - in Finland.

  • This is one of my favorites from Mr. Numminen.

  • Great to hear the Maestro here, but what about the New Finnish Folk-Rock Sound? Could we have the English Language version of snippets from Wittgenstein from the old days on here, please? "World is all that is the case. World divides into facts..."

  • they are singing "of that what one cannot talk of, one has to remain silent"

  • Indeed. But I bought an E.P. (since lost) sometime in the 1960s or early '70s of M.A.N. singing a much longer extract from the Tractatus, in English, the passage that begins 'World is all that is the case, World divides into facts' and it would be good to hear it again. It taught me all I know about Wittgenstein. It would be wonderful if he could represent Finland in a Eurovision Song contest some year.

  • M.A. ja Pedro ovat...kovia!
