  • The depression part seems to be because I think the same thing over and over again, going in endless circles. I haven't had any depression in 2 years since I noticed those thought patterns and the insanity of thinking them. Meditation helped. It doesn't mean that you should stop thinking, but that you should change your way of thinking into something more beneficial and especially see the harm that you cause to yourself by thinking the same thing over and over again and agonizing over "problems"

  • In my own experience I would say that I can't think my way out of it, but I can let my thoughts flow and eventually allow them to slow down to finally be able to calm myself down.

  • First of all , its not a lethal disease. It is a brain disorder. Alot of it is caused by a unheathy diet, lack of exercise and fear mongers giving out advice without ANY facts to back them up. Even not getting any moral support from friends and family will compound the problem. The fact is that BiPolar is the uncontroled hieghten of the the emotions (mood swings). ALL MEDS DO ARE DULL THE BRAIN TO SLOW IT DOWN. Every doctor that is a good doctor will tell you to eat healthy and exercise first!

  • there is no cure for bipolar, even with meds that only lead you to be an addicted statistics

I'm a bipolar, and I live well off meds.

There are no part we aren't telling...

the truth is, it's perfectly possible to live without pills

  • he is hideous!!!!.

  • i just can't stand the fucking trendy mopers would think being bipolar is 'deep' or 'cool'. fuckers.

  • you are either a victim or a master. period. i was diagnosed bipolar and have completely turned my life around after years of misery and hopelessness. i still deal with many of the symptoms, but i monitor my thoughts and look for the gifts in what i am experiencing. it can be a real gift if you want it to be. shift your perspective and bring something to the table.

  • This video is great. I wish the sound were better, but I made sure I heard everything. You are an important voice on the Internet to counter the misinformation that is being spread all over the net on Bipolar Disorder.

  • "You could harm yourself very badly." Way to prescribe fear to the hopefuls, buddy.

  • I have had a close dear friend die from going off her meds because someone convinced her to. She desparately wanted to be well. Now she is a suicide statistic. Just how much should I try to avoid hurting people's feelings about this?

Bipolar can be managed and controlled and a patient with this illness can live a wonderful life of recovery. But they CANNOT rely on pop medicine, it's too lethal and the results too dire. No one gets well from this illness. If they do, it wasn't bipolar.

  • Depression is much more common nowadays that it was in the past, suggesting that is a sickness of our time, then it has a cultural origen. I went psychotic and hospitalized, medicated (zyprexa, klonopin, wellbutrin) now im off meds managing -with a little help from my friends- very well. We have to look at other sources besides the mainstream psychiatry, which, no matter how advanced it claims to be, has not helped the mental health of the population, which on the contrary, its on its worse time.

  • Well it's true, and if it makes you fearful where you previously felt hope, you might want to consider WHY that is rather than rejecting a more educated explanation than the PSEUDO-psychology/personal annecdotes you see all over YouTube. PSEUDO-psychology tends to be more fun and appealing with cool visuals about enlightenment, so people PRESCRIBE to it, instead of taking professional advice.

  • Thank you for your video.... I made a vid about something similar, where if you want to promote that Bipolar is not a real disease, and can be healed through meditation only, and you can just toss pills out the window, think again...

  • On a side note, it appears that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy actually can help those with the Bipolar Disorder. If used in adjunct with medications, it can help one manage symptoms, strengthen ones ability to resist the impulsiveness and understand what might trigger an eppisode. It cannot be used alone to treat the disorder, but studies and data suggest that it helps one manage themselves more effectively while in an eppisode. Additionally CBT helps one fight the stigmas of this disorder.

  • I know some really good thinking techniques to help with bipolar; I've been fighting bipolar1 with psychotic features for over 20 years now. I'm lucky in that I am hypomanic over 90% of the time--bummer if it's the opposite. But make no mistake the condition stays with you like the man in the video says. BUT good news--SOMETIMES it gets better as you get older--it burns itself out a bit because you can deal with stress better and avoid those things that make you worse.

  • Nice video.Yes one cannot think their way out of bipolar disorder but thinking techniques can help you.some are:positive lists when you think negatively and thinking psychotic and then pulling out when your normal just to train your mind in how to pull out of psychosis later if you have bipolar1 with psychotic features-like myself. This kind of thinking strengthens one. Also knowing your cycles and patterns can help you fight off the amount of time you spend psychotic-etc. Being honest with self

  • psychiatric drugs actually prmote suicides not prevent.. make you fat irritable and impotent without any libido. Please go to Yahoo and type in the search with the phrase "Horrible Truth About Psychiatric Drugs" and also do the search "Documented Proof Psychiatric Drugs Shorten Lifespan" to see information on psychiatric drugs that no psychiatrist will ever tell you.... Shocking and revealing..... Oh and be sure to include the quote marks around the phrase when doing the search....

  • You ARE RIGHT some of the medicines are awful and it depends on you if you think the harm outweighs what tehy can do for you. Many bipolars go through "normal periods" with no symptoms. Many people had this in the past and no sickly meds--and many did well overall--depends on you.

  • You are stating complete misnomers that are not backed up by the statistics. Sure there have been some EXTREMELY rare cases of suicidal behavior that may be linked to antidepressives. However you will find there is a GREAT DEAL more suicidal behavior linked to DEPRESSION. I am personally on three psychiatric drugs...I am not any more overweight than before, nor am I irritable and my libido is certainly healthy. People like you who spread this junk do a lot of harm to others who truly need help.

  • EXTREAMLY rare? Is that why the AD boxes include a disclaimer about risk suicide?

  • Thank you for this video. So many people are posting on how they can take vitamins and be symptom free when this is just not true! Thanks!

  • Not only is it untrue, it is EXTREMELY dangerous! I have lost one friend to this thinking, and I don't want to lose any more.

  • Hey cliff, I am a rapid cycling manic depressive. The only time I ever really feel stability is when I am on meds. I have tried for over a decade to fight the disorder, alas I could not do it. Have mad respect for you for making this vid. So many people are clueless. You can't fight the bipolar disorder on your own. It's either meds or a life time of chaos and ruined relationships.

  • Exactly. Thinking your way out of bipolar disorder is like thinking your way out of a broken bone. If you can think your way out then it wasn't the problem in the first place.

  • THANK you for making this. So many need to hear this. Bi-polar is not something to take lightly. Meditation and such will not change the body and it can kill you, literally, to go off your meds. W/o my meds, I am incoherent and self-destructive. No amount of meditation or positive thinking can stop this because it is physical. I hate taking so much medication, but there is no alternative.

  • So true!!!!! Thank you for watching this. I have a good friend who is in his fourth week of hospital right now, and the second time in three months, because he went off his meds AGAIN. And he's had this illness for 25 years, and knows better. He even went off the Brooklyn Bridge once! Why people can't understand that their brain can break just like their liver or pancreas or kidney I dunno. Stay tuned, I may have another more intense vid on this upcoming.

  • hi! I'm browing your channel. good subject. Never diagnosed, I've just screwed up a lot and don't know why.I won't ask my dr cause I take too many pills already.

  • Lol, I understand ya :) I finally came to grips with it by deciding the way to wint he game was to feel good, not to take fewer pills. Now I feel better than ever, but I'm a bit broke :)

  • Thankyou for this, Now I understand a little more.

  • That's why I did it :) I'm glad I was able to do that.

  • this is such a misconception that bipolar people are just violent beings, they are so much more and you are so uneducated...

  • His comment is not really worth a reply, I only left it to show how stupid he was :)

  • Thats right!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • interesting.

  • Thanks, I was trying to look at things from an angle that no one else had done.

  • Wow funny how you make this video because one of the million papers I had to write last night was the pros and cons of medicating bipolar disorder.

I agree 100% with what you said and I totally should have made you write my paper :o)

  • I would have been glad to write your paper but it would have been in first person

    ! :)

  • That's true. I should do a caption on my videos so people don't get the wrong ideas.

  • No, I don't think your videos are confusing on this topic at all. Its the vids that actually SAY "If you have bipolar disorder, stop taking your meds and start meditating" and things like that, those are the ones that are confusing to people and harmful. Normal motivational vids need no caveats :) No, this was not aimed at vids like yours at all nor should it be. Those of us who fight dragons are supposed to know what applies and what doesn't.

  • Good quote. Thanks for clarifying!

  • I agree... Proper medications are totaly apropriate when applied to an acurate diagnosis of a mental illness and or a correct treatment program for said illness.

    Great Vid. 5 STARS!

  • Thank you sir, you've got the point exactly!

  • Thank YOU! :~D

  • in response to Bipolar being caused by viruses (because I can't find the video that you referenced) would it be possible for menningitis to cause Bipolar disorder?

And in the same way that stroke victims can learn to use different parts of the brain to regain some lost control, wouldn't meditation and the formation of new thought patterns do something to bypass the scarred tissue? could that be seen as a "cure".

Just another thought for the pile, gd video Cliff, Lv Candi XxX

  • Hello Candi ;) I believe meningitus affects spinal tissue primarily, but there may certainly be some mood factors involved. As far as retraining, I think it can have an effect but not to the point of a cure.

  • The Human mind is very much a mystery, we don't know what it's limitations are.

Saying that, I agree with you, we should always utilize all the benefits that modern medicine has to offer.

  • Hello Steffy :) My major beef is that since bipolar appears to be caused by scarring and physical damage, a person can't think or meditate a scar away no more than they could meditate away a heart condition or kidney disease. Yes, the mind is a mystery, but the brain is an organ. That's my view anyway :)

  • Thanks for clarifying that for us. Great video Cliff.

  • Thank you Fran :) Good to see you :)

  • Good and interesting video :-)

  • Thank you!

  • I had no idea these two disorders were similar. Thank you so much for the info. x

  • You're welcome Jen :)

  • Very interesting and thoughtful advice.

    Pretty background too. :)

  • You like that area? I'm gonna make more videos there.

  • Yup, it looks very serene. Oh, that sounds good. I like videos with you 'on location' :)

  • Very good video.

    Joanie

  • Thank you Joanie :)

  • I totally agree with you Cliff. People cannot stop using their medications. It is very harmful to just stop. People can't give medical advice, only a Doctor can. Great vid 5 stars! I'm interested about that BPD can be caused virally.

  • BPD is psychological, caused by trauma. Bipolar may be caused by a virus. Bipolar actually apparently involves scarring of the hypothalamus and related areas, causing them to malfunction.

  • awesome nature scene i bet the fish are biting

  • I didn't see anyone with a hook in but I'll bet they were :)

  • This is a great video!

    Take Care

    -Darrell

  • Thank you Darrell, good to see you!
