  • Love that sound of the metro stopping in the station. Love being in DC

  • I miss that screeching sound and the beeping noise. But then again, I was only in DC for three weeks...haha

  • What time was this video taken? Just curious about the traffic.

  • I rode the orange line today from Landover to Rosslyn. I think the brakes were stuck on cause the ride wasnt smooth (well as smooth as a metro ride can be) and i could smell burnt rubber everytime the doors opened.

  • Sounds identical to what the LA subway and CTA 2200 Series cars do when they pull into a station!

  • Are they Third Rail ?

  • @sovietgen Yes

  • sounds just like the subway in la

  • if i could ride metro every single day i would...

haha but unfortunately, i gotta take the bus

  • I come down to the Union Station often because I love trains, especially the metro. Did you ever realize that The Great Train Store used to be there? I wonder why they went out of business.

  • Metrobus routes 80, 96, 97, D1, D3, D4, D6, D8, N22, X1, and X8 serves this station. Just wanted to let people know what buses serve this station.

  • Union Station is the first underground stop in that direction on the Red Line, the slug of wind is normal. BART uses the same farecard and they worked free on METRO at one time. Safest garage to park in.

  • like that sound those trains make

  • Bay Area Rapid Transit trains make that same noise.

  • So does the Los Angeles Metro Red Line.

  • Yeah and some sound a little different,Some are older and some are in fact younger.

  • yea i especially like the screech of the older trains like the one in the video when they stop and speed up at stations.

  • @mohaas05 I am going to miss the original bredas and the rohrs.

  • That is the sound of the dynamic braking system that METRO trains use. Unfortunately, only the 1000 series cars generate the dulcet tones you hear in the clip (I could be wrong so if you've heard the wind-down on cars not in the 1000 series, please feel free to correct me). The 'newer' cars (2000-6000) use different components and produce a kink of monotone squeaking sound.

  • kink=kind...oops

  • Is that a way of telling them apart?

  • @drcobol2000 the 2000-4000 series unrehabbed sounded nice too.

  • "Red Line Train to Shady Grove"

  • The next station - Judiciary Square. I ride that thing at least 3 days a week from Union Station to White Flint.

  • Damn, you felt the wind right at :25 when the train is slowing down. Union Station is a BIG commuter zone, though.

  • Felt the wind and very close - those trains hit the platforms at about 30-38 mph so be careful you don't stand too close to the edge
