  • Just gorgeous- hip, well-voiced and overflowing with TASTE!

What more can I say? Excellent in all ways.

  • @OrganCat Thank you Ike for the very nice comment. Coming from a professional performer such as yourself it is greatly appreciated.

  • WOW!!!!! I must say, I love this song and wish that I could play it the way coltrane does and i heard many play it their own way but this right here is very smooth tasteful and relaxed! What's the patch that you are using?

  • @drumsnkeys Thanks for your comment. I am using Lounge Lizard VST.

  • Man, this was great...

I first heard Giant Steps with this latin thing to it in a Tony Monaco DVD.

He cooked the basslines with the B3 and the whole trio just had a nice bossa feeling to this song.

You are great... I wish I knew how to play like this.

    kudos!

  • @gcpezzi Thanks for your comment. Yeah, Tony is awesome.

  • Love the vibes!

  • @SonnyMontrose I appreciate your comment - thanks!

  • Awesome sounds...Cheers!

  • What type of chords are you playing in the left hand, some have four notes and some have three? Are you use fourths most of the time? On the ii-V7s it seems so

  • you cured my cancer by playing this, and my eye sight

  • you cured my cancer by playing this

  • sicccccck!!!!

  • Nice and clean..Love it!

  • This tune done in a medium-up tempo Latin style is gloriously done...No need to go to a frenetic be-bop pace to capture the innate beauty of this classic...I can't adequately express what my ears can already hear...Great!!

  • You solve the problems in my life.

  • @okturus Well thanks, although I think you have exaggerated slightly. ;-)

  • wow please teach me...

  • is there any pointers or sites i can go to to learn how to play this style. i have horrible timing when it come s to playing left hand chords and right hand melodies. the same thing wit stride piano, i jus cant do both @ da same time. this will really take my playin 2 da next level

  • LYRICAL! You're hearing some great melodies..

  • @pauldav1d I appreciate your comment.

  • Excellent work, my friend! Just awesome! I've always practiced this tune w/ a Bossa rhythm precisely because it lends itself to a more snappy feel, so I was especially pleased to hear your rendition here! Many blessings, and keep up your beautiful music! --GM

  • @AnalyticalSurvival Thanks much for your comment.

  • what kinda music software do you use to create the background music? like band in a box?

  • @bhuj89 Yes.

  • Jullie zijn allemaal in de sekteeee! Want muziek en zang zijn vals!

  • Yeesss Doc!! original song is great but this latin twist you added makes it even better!! Keep it up!!

  • @KELH1990 Thanks for your comment!

  • HAIL BOSSA!

  • who's the meat-head who voted a thumb down?

I used to play guitar in a quintet, and my dues were the chords for this song and I could barely keep up. the sax player always took a cigarette and alcohol break after this. ...

    good job man!

  • @ahioud Thanks for your comment. ;-)

  • nice impro! and nice rhodes sound!

  • I thought I was the only one that did it with Latin. Of course that was some years ago. : ) Always like it that way. People came up and said "Giant Steps"!!

  • Yes, Latin style GS is fun to play!

  • WOW!!!!!

I've seen several of you videos. This is probably the most fun. Your chops are tremendous. Very inspiring Sir!

  • wow nice documentation of a lot of great work-inquiry. I still don't know how to post on you tube. a friend just came over one day and said lets put you on you tube . When I do figure this thing out I would like to share some similar investigations. Pax Wallace

  • Yo how are u cumming up wit da changes thou cuz i can use trhem in gospel music

  • These videos are so consistently good that I'm beginning to feel guilty for not paying you! Seriously, I've been a guitarist for well over twenty years but great keyboard solos reach me more. I can't get enough arpeggio and pentatonic superimposition. Thanks for posting again!

  • Thanks Eric. I actually do Giant Steps like this (Latin style) on my new trio CD that will be available on my website this weekend. You can check out the link in the description for the video.

  • GREAT like always !!! respect

  • Thanks!

  • Your solo from about 25 secs to 40 seconds is just fantastic. As everyone has already said you play great and there's not much I can add except that my ears very much enjoy that section, I am only an beginner pianist in comparison.

  • I appreciate your comment.

  • SWEEET!!!

  • Fantastic Roger, your rhythmic approach compliments your harmonic vocabulary so well! I receive complimentary daily instruction simply by watching your videos. Who says nothing in life is free? :) Don't stop playing!

    Dominic

  • Thanks for your comment Dominic, it is appreciated.

  • Great stuff Roger, definitely some Chick in there! Logical, well formed lines and as jazzbro says, not just licks! Really enjoyed this! Great rhodes sound too! *****

  • Thanks Wayne!

  • Very interwoven melodic interpretatons here. I hear sentence development, not just licks that fit chords! Seamlessy connected phrases with a light playful feel. That shows not only a sense of construction and harmonic control but confidence by not overplaying to prove something. Great job Roger!

  • I appreciate the comment Mark!

  • incredible!..love the elec pno patch..what's your keyboard make and model?

    Thanks...Billy

  • Roland FP-4 keyboard but the sound patch is the Lounge Lizard VST Software Rhodes emulator.

  • This is awesome as usual for you! I actually heard a Latin version of Giant Steps (my ringtone by the way) on WBGO recently, but it wasn't that good. they should've played your version instead!!!

  • Why are you sooo good!!!! lol thanks for the video but i have a big favor to request my grandparents are renewing their vows so i want to play the song called "As Time Goes By" and you could do a tutorial that would be awesome .

    great video 5/5

  • Perfect

  • "I attempt to construct a solo that is "musical" and not just a series of "licks" and scales" - Attempt successful, mission accomplished! Melodic, and a nice groove. *****

  • Thanks Joe.

  • As always a great performance by Lot2learn!!!!

  • Thank you Erick. ;-)

  • awesome... very good work!

  • Thanks for your comment.

  • Why some improvisations are more "melodic" than others, is also a question not to be fully answered. However, another Lot2learn explosion has arrived, punctuated by a masterful talent. Thank you for sharing.

  • Yup I got Lot2Learn. LOL. YOu Are AWeSoMe MaN. You are killing Giant Steps like that.

  • Thanks Craig.

  • As you say in the 'info' above Roger, you certainly succeeded in creating, on this very difficult to play standard, a 'musical' improvisation rather than just using a grab bag of learned licks.

  • What can't you do???? Wow!!

  • Grande!!! great job, i like your phrases, very cool!

    thanks Roger!

  • Incredibly smooth and lyrical, Roger.

  • Dude you're nuts!!

Then again I tell everyone who plays Giant Steps well that =p

  • Fantastic playng Roger.Truly Spectacular.

  • Grazie Alfonso.

  • Wow. Just ... wow. I have no idea how you move so smoothly and still almost never miss a note. The run at 43 seconds was just perfect.

  • I agree with this statement.

  • Very smooth and relaxing. Rhodes rocks!
