This is the bikes fault. They impatient , they passed in a No Passing Zone, and they rode beyond their abilities. If that biker was looking in the direction he wanted to go ( which would be to the right ) his bike would have gone to the right, instead he was looking straight ahead and went straight off the road.

Ouch! I went there summer '09 and had a blast! good weather and no trucks. I must say I appreciated my 09 cbr1000rr VERY MUCH. All of the times I rode for a longish distance and was uncomfortable because it was a sport bike were definitely worth it to get the kind of handling that thing has.
No reason why the car driver should stop. He didn't cause the accident and there are a ton of the rider's friends around to help. The fault lies entirely with the retarded bike rider for making a stupid move and losing control.

It's all about personal preference. I have plenty of friends who ride cruisers, including Harleys, and they really enjoy the comfort of them. They prefer that over the agility of sport bikes. Having gone on extended road trips with my Ninja, I can really see their point. I can't exactly stand up or walk right at first when I stop to rest after an hour of riding...
I just wish there was more camaraderie among all bikers, regardless of what they ride.

IMHO, the rider was 110% wrong. The van in this video did nothing wrong. Double yellow = no passing. Simple as that. That matched with that riders over confidence is ultimately why he ended up in the ditch. They paint double yellows for a reason! IT'S NOT SAFE TO PASS ON BLIND RISES AND BLIND CURVES! I've been stuck behind slow vehicles on 2 lanes all over this country and I never risk it. It's not worth it.

Passing on Deal's Gap is illegal, period. Does this mean if there's a minivan doing 30mph in front of you that you can't have fun on the twisties? YES! In that case, the only legal alternative is to let THEM gain some distance by pulling your bike over and waiting. I understand this isn't popular--I've had this happen to me on the Dragon too--but the more this type of thing happens the more Blount County SD and the THP will take it out on bikes.

You do realize that it's not illegal to NOT stop and render aid, right? The only thing the Good Samaritan law is used for is to ensure that those that CHOOSE to render aid to an injured person won't be wrongfully blaimed, charged, or sued in the case that the injured person suffers further injury or death. It's to protect the bystander from becoming a victim of circumstances, not to ensure that the injured person is given proper aid. That is assuming you're referring to the people filming.

However, the biker made the choice to try and shoot around the car, a maneuver he obviously wasn't capable of. His accident was his own fault, and as I mentioned above, the Good Samaritan law doesn't make it illegal to leave the scene of an accident you weren't physically involved in.

This was in no way the van driver's fault. The speed limit on the tail of the dragon is 20mph, which is about the speed you were travelling. You shouldn't have to pull over for that. 100% driver error on the part of the Harley idiot.
Sucks that it happened. I was just there last week. That said.. Why do Harley people just JAM on the rear brake going into and through corners??? Chances are he would have made it with no brake, even more likely he would have made it without issue had he scrubbed some off with some front brake, released and went through the corner? We all need hate as a counterbalance to love; the philosophy of opposites and all that. Anyway, I don't hate the riders (much), just those inanimate lardy bikes.
That dreadful sound and laughable riding position are the Yang to my delightful (baby 400) Ninja Ying. Can't really understand why anyone would want to ride around looking somewhat akin to an armpit exhibitionist. on an expensive but under-performing bike which sounds like an old man farting.

It's all about personal preference. I have plenty of friends who ride cruisers, including Harleys, and they really enjoy the comfort of them. They prefer that over the agility of sport bikes. Having gone on extended road trips with my Ninja, I can really see their point. I can't exactly stand up or walk right at first when I stop to rest after an hour of riding...
I just wish there was more camaraderie among all bikers, regardless of what they ride.

IMHO, the rider was 110% wrong. The van in this video did nothing wrong. Double yellow = no passing. Simple as that. That matched with that riders over confidence is ultimately why he ended up in the ditch. They paint double yellows for a reason! IT'S NOT SAFE TO PASS ON BLIND RISES AND BLIND CURVES! I've been stuck behind slow vehicles on 2 lanes all over this country and I never risk it. It's not worth it.

The Harley guys are at fault! Anyone who has been on the Tail of the Dragon knows, how steep the curves are.
The driver of the car should have pulled over to assist in first aid! He was fleeing the scene of an accident even if it wasn't his fault. I agree with other post, so are urban posers not Hells Angels, there harmless and friendly.
Most folks pass illegal, if you can do it, in my opinion fine as long you don't endanger others, that's freedom to me!

Passing on Deal's Gap is illegal, period. Does this mean if there's a minivan doing 30mph in front of you that you can't have fun on the twisties? YES! In that case, the only legal alternative is to let THEM gain some distance by pulling your bike over and waiting. I understand this isn't popular--I've had this happen to me on the Dragon too--but the more this type of thing happens the more Blount County SD and the THP will take it out on bikes.

If your a biker I think the skills should be improved somewhere else before these manuevers are tried. This is a good example for cars and bikes to just let the bikes go by and focus on your own driving.

You do realize that it's not illegal to NOT stop and render aid, right? The only thing the Good Samaritan law is used for is to ensure that those that CHOOSE to render aid to an injured person won't be wrongfully blaimed, charged, or sued in the case that the injured person suffers further injury or death. It's to protect the bystander from becoming a victim of circumstances, not to ensure that the injured person is given proper aid. That is assuming you're referring to the people filming.

He was leaving the scene of an accident, sure, but not one that was in any way his fault. If the biker had made contact with his vehicle, THEN he would have been obligated to pull over. However, the biker made the choice to try and shoot around the car, a maneuver he obviously wasn't capable of. His accident was his own fault, and as I mentioned above, the Good Samaritan law doesn't make it illegal to leave the scene of an accident you weren't physically involved in.

Regardless of Bike being ridden or the manner in which this episode occurred; the Driver and occupants SHOULD have stopped to render AID. Yes they were within their speed and legality with the exception of FAILING TO RENDER AID AT AN ACCIDENT SCENE i hope someone got ther plates and are filing reports on them

It's called, "push the right handle bar to go more to the right" and scrape like a MF or don't try to pass on the double yellow line on a curve to boot; even if he was on a bike that was made for that type riding he'd have still been in the ditch only at a higher speed and probably dead for sure. That is but one reason they are cracking down so hard on the Dragon at present. It is not a private race track. Aside from that there aren't many spots to pull something like that on the side of the road... he'd be more of a danger on the side of the road stopped. The real deal is don't make dumb passes, lock up the rear and blow corners.

This was in no way the van driver's fault. The speed limit on the tail of the dragon is 20mph, which is about the speed you were travelling. You shouldn't have to pull over for that. 100% driver error on the part of the Harley idiot.

Sucks that it happened. I was just there last week. That said.. Why do Harley people just JAM on the rear brake going into and through corners??? Chances are he would have made it with no brake, even more likely he would have made it without issue had he scrubbed some off with some front brake, released and went through the corner? I wish people would LEARN how to RIDE their bikes PROPERLY before going out there and doing it POORLY and making bikers in general look bad.
