2 french were fighting during 100 years war for the throne of france. It was more a civilian war than a war between england france because england was ruled by french king and aristocratie !
The French invaders who arrived in 1066 and committed genocide against the English are responsible for destroying England's native Anglo-Saxon/ Anglo-Scandinavian culture, history, heritage and identity. The French also destroyed and bastardised our language.
England was Latinised/ Frenchified by the Norman Papists. Under the French lords the Anglo-Saxon English suffered famine, genocide and other ethnic atrocities, and lost their ancient Germanic freedom.
@RideoftheHerlathing It's funny how you English cry when pay time comes back to haunt you, you're upset about the loss of 'Germanic freedoms' when they denied freedom to those they tried their best to take over for centuries and centuries.
Karma's been a real bad bitch to you eh?
The English spent the entire 19th century trying to get everyone they came across to speak, dress, eat, drink and act like them, now you have barely anything that's exclusively really English now, the irony of it lol.
129 people are britishs... LOL but hey! that is unbeliveble! so that little island was french all this time and we would never know! O_O Surprises surprises! why you guys like to fight so mutch if you two are brothers? xD long live to the french republic and the french empire and god save the queen!
@KKKSuperFan Haiti has been independent for 200 years! When the island was French all was well managed, there was no over-population, now it's their problem. Moreover, know that the islands with the best standard of living in the Caribbean are French, Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin ...
The Problem in the Hundred Years War is that the Plantagenets were a French faction that is ruling over England they were just like the Guise faction who wanted to rule France but of course they were stopped.
I'm Engilish and I have to admit that we were dominated by the French all the time, and the Scotland rightly fought us off to defend their country and remain unconquered, I have no shame in it,
We got dominated fair and square, it's just a fact off life, no matter how you try to cut it and no matter how long you try to argue it, the facts still stand.
I ask any English here does it really matter anyway? as we came from what's now modern day Germany and surrounding areas.
Of course, it could be argued that very little of France is 'French'. The Occitan and Basque peoples speak dialects that defeat 'Parisian' French speakers, and then there are the people in French Flanders who are more like their Vlamish neighbours. Whatever, France is a beautiful country, and I do rather like the French.
As a mixed-blood English-American with probably Norman ancestry and more than likely several French Huguenot ancestors, I loved and appreciated this video. Thank you for posting this. I still to this day do not understand why there has to be an ongoing rivalry (if not bigotry) from many of (but obviously not all) the English against the French. Glad someone's telling it like it is. Cette vidéo est belle.
@rjky1986 Most of the prejudice in the UK and Britain comes from guys who hate the fact that their women find French guys irresistable!! As for French prejudice towards Brits and Yanks, that mostly comes from the dominance of the English language around the world.
@rjky1986 This rivalry is quite understandable....... remember this wonderful saying : in every single english there is a french sleeping in his grave and in every french, an english one !!
It is because they are so linked, they try so much to hate each other... There have always been a hatred/love relationship between the two..... But the french , now don't really care about this...... much less than he english !!
There has been calls to make "Land of Hope & Glory" the Uk anthem. Which was composed as tribute to the Liverpool Philharmonic society in 1901. What a great tune!!!! The best.

Wow, i didn't know that! 00 really unbelievable! But it's not good for the anglo-french relations! x) I understand now why Jeremie Clarkson hate so much the Peugeot's ! ^^
Normans weren’t Vikings anymore in 1066. They were a French people like others (Burgundies, Angevins etc…)
Normans were just a fistful of men in 911, when they were authorized (by treaty) to settle in Normandy after their defeat against the French at the battle of Chartes.
They immediately mixed with local population adopting French language, culture, religion and DNA. After one generation or two, they were "indistinguishable from the French" (Encyclopedia Britannica).
So in 1066, Guillaume is widely more French than Viking. He’s also the vassal of the French King and Normandy was a Duchy of the French Crown. And Guillaume's troops at Hastings were of course composed by Normans, but also by 50% of various French Barons and soldiers from Northern and Western France (the famous “English Barons” who were actually French).
The French Normans did not assimilate with British locals, and ruled as conquerors (In 1100, 90% of the Saxons Nobles are despoiled).
@thecajuncutthroat One of my oldest ancestor, Guillaume de Briouze, was among the knights who followed Guillaume le conquérant, ultimatly, it's descendants in England, became the Barons of Braose
France is a brother country to us.I'm south italian and we have many french rulers:the Normans of the Hauteville Family, the Anjou that formed the Kingdom of Naples, the Neapolitan Republic of 1799 that was a sister republic of the French Republic,we're definately bros ;-)
England it's the first colony of France exatly. Their Kings are french, their lord are french, their constitution are french, their parlement are french, their invention their french, their flag are french, their moto are french, their names are anglosized during more 500 years, 40% of the english words are french. Nearly all in the england are french LOOOOOL. Not surprise that the english hate France, just a great complex of inferiority lol.
Granted, and I am of 60% + ethnic descent, but I personally love French culture, people, and the language, and unlike so many Anglos in both England and in the United States, I also realize how much of an influence the French had on the making of England. I am quite sure I have a few or more French Huguenot ancestors as well, so perhaps I have some bias, but who cares?
Because of both the Norman invasion and the influx of French Huguenots to England, I'm pretty sure at least 10%-25% of British English and English-American people are, percentage-wise, partially French. All of the Francophobia gets on my nerves.
France is the nation that won the most battles and the more important ones either. She have at least more than 500 victories in her history. She also win more wars than all the others.
@titytit The Normans call themselves French on the Bayeux Tapestry. They had some viking (norse) blood but were mainly French, because the Norse didnt exterminize the local population when they settle and they were not numerous enough to change the people. And yes they shapped modern England.
@xxAdelineFcexx And also anglosaxons of the time call them french. It is in the "Anglo Saxon Chronicle", a medieval document wrote by english monks. They wrote: "In Hastings, the french won the land and we were punished for our sins".
This video is made to educate the francophobic english ignorants who claim theyre superior to the French. I realize not all english are ignorant, but this video was made to counter those anti French propaganda videos made by your countrymen.
No disrespect to you, but this video is based on facts, a coalition of Normans, French, Bretons, Flemish conquered england from 1066-1154, the english flag at this time bears the Fleur de Lis on a Blue field and the Lions on an Orange field. The kingdom of Anjou conquered/ruled england from 1154-1485. To this day the english coat of arms still bears the Plantagenet logo.
A survey by Joseph M. Williams in Origins of the English Language of 10,000 words taken from several thousand business letters gave this set of statistics: * French (langue d'oïl): 41% * "Native" English: 33%
The king arthur legend was mainly written by a French author: Chretien of Troyes. there is documentary in the Special edition of the Lord of the Ring were an english historian said "people think it is english but it was mainly created by the French"
@turtlemayhem Are you ridley scott behind a fake account trying to rewrite his english history ?! The Normans and the Plantagenets certainly didn't see themselves as "English" ; England was a possesion among others, and not exactly the dearest to their heart. They are all buried in France (William in Rouen/The Plantagenet in Fontevraud)
The Normans were ONLY 1/4 of the troups who conquered England ... The others ? They were flemish, french ...Look at your own history ! Try to read some books , written by serious historians,( hey ?) ... if you can !!!
@Alroight William the Conqueror, as you call him, was in fact Guillaume. He spoke french and his only non-french ancestry was 5 generation earlier, so in fact his grand-grand-grand-grand-father. Ok? Get it now? He was french. The army who conquered England was also 100% french, french knights, french infantry. Get it now? You were, indeed, conquered by France and frenchicized.
Get out of your bubble, and how do you say in "norman",... ah yes... Dieu et mon droit. Big lol
Nicolas Martiau was a huguenot , he fled France because of problems of religion at the begining of the 17th century , he built a fence to protect the village of Jamestown actually Williamsburg in Virginia against the Indians
@smogga09 Normans were french for more than 5 generations, spoke french, recongnized themselves as french (Bayeux taperstry: it's written "Franci", sorry for you dude) they were more french than more french these days.
The whole "they were normans"-myth is an anglo-story just to avoid the truth: England was invaded and created by France. Dieu et mond droit, Honni soit qui mal y pense and all that, sounds really "norman" to me. So stop embarassing yourself.
I understand now why english hate french ! Don't be resentful ! France is the nation who created Europe but now we're sympathetic and benevolent with others countries and ancient colonies !^^
the Netherlands, the Rhineland and Belgium have the same mix to France with some linguistic and cultural variations. Europe's first idea comes from the union of the Franks and the Western church, which try to unify the West and revive the Roman Empire. It is understood that the Franks, who were allies of Rome, tried to follow his cannons, merged with the Romanized Gauls and became the first nation is strengthened durable than their culture, religion (mysticism) and fertility of its territory.
"The French held 7 german divisions in Dunkirk. England wouldn't have been able to carry on the war without them".
Winston Churchill
"The lengthened defense of the French garrison played a major role in the re-establishment of the British troops in Egypt. On long term, holding back Rommel allowed the British forces to escape from its meticulously planned annihilation"
Ian Playfair about Bir Hakeim.
It seems that the "surrender monkeys" saved you sometimes...
I am amazed to see an English isn't able of detecting irony. This video is a moderated answer to the virulent slanders and insults uttered against French peoples in certain British media and, unfortunately, in the heads of lot English people. But there is a considerable difference: the facts demonstrated in this video are true, even if they hurt you. The only thing that this vid treats rudely is the strange & persistent superiority complex of the British.
- "During the century and a half after the Conquest, there is no English history. The French Kings of England rose to an eminence which was the wonder of all nations".
- "The small groups of Vikings that settled there adopted the language, religion and culture of the French majority. After a generation or two, the Normans were indistinguishable from the French".

After one generation or two, they were "indistinguishable from the French" (Encyclopedia Britannica).
thecajuncutthroat 1 year ago
So in 1066, Guillaume is widely more French than Viking. He’s also the vassal of the French King and Normandy was a Duchy of the French Crown. And Guillaume's troops at Hastings were of course composed by Normans, but also by 50% of various French Barons and soldiers from Northern and Western France (the famous “English Barons” who were actually French).
The French Normans did not assimilate with British locals, and ruled as conquerors (In 1100, 90% of the Saxons Nobles are despoiled).

Granted, and I am of 60% + ethnic descent, but I personally love French culture, people, and the language, and unlike so many Anglos in both England and in the United States, I also realize how much of an influence the French had on the making of England. I am quite sure I have a few or more French Huguenot ancestors as well, so perhaps I have some bias, but who cares?
rjky1986 11 months ago
@mathos75
Because of both the Norman invasion and the influx of French Huguenots to England, I'm pretty sure at least 10%-25% of British English and English-American people are, percentage-wise, partially French. All of the Francophobia gets on my nerves.

@titytit The Normans call themselves French on the Bayeux Tapestry. They had some viking (norse) blood but were mainly French, because the Norse didnt exterminize the local population when they settle and they were not numerous enough to change the people. And yes they shapped modern England.

@smogga09 Normans were french for more than 5 generations, spoke french, recongnized themselves as french (Bayeux taperstry: it's written "Franci", sorry for you dude) they were more french than more french these days.

the Netherlands, the Rhineland and Belgium have the same mix to France with some linguistic and cultural variations.
