6:30 to 7:30 is a train wreck. Timing all out and dodgy pronounciation. And right at the end, it sounds like he is just on the wrong note before the very last note.
Alagna resembles the caliber of Pavarotti, but with his own touch and wonderful voice color. He is for me the N-1 on this days, probably followed by some in a short range,... but still the best for my ears!!!
Hope he keeps up doing so well...Bravooo Alagna!!!!!
finlayma84 You couldn´t have better described the difference of alagna singing this aria in two ocassions and as you say he went to the wrong repertoire and finish up his beautiful lirical voice.
indietro?!?
There is an earlier clip of him singing this same aria that is much better. I still think he's a wonderful musician, but very past his prime: like Carreras, he overextended himself singing the wrong roles and his voice has lost some of its color as a result.
Si, ça dépend de la disposition des lieux. Dans un amphithéâtre, l'absence de micro je concois mais là, on dirait un lieu assez faible niveau résonance non?
At this day an age, people would applaud everything sheepishly. That is why. Get a clue. Besides is weak top, he sounds strained throughout. His timbre is literally damaged. Sounds nothing like what he was in the early 1990s.
Jock-And you're an expert on women's hygenic products, especially used one? I did see Alagna live over the years, starting in the mid 90s. I did observe his vocal decline because of his mistakes in choosing the proper repertoire. So what are you talking about you pinhead? If you're deaf, I can't help. Go to your corner and wait until I throw you a bone.
Alagna has beautiful voice but nowadays I feel something like he is going to lose his voice:( and thats is not only about one note in this aria. Thats sad because a lot of young singers lost their voices...
I'm sick and tired of all those people who the only thing they do is criticize. Who are you ? Are you that good whatever you do ? I'm not Alagna's fan, but his interpretation is so emotional here, despite his technical singing. Sometimes in Opera, doesn't matter crack a note if interpretation is emotional as should be.
la Gheorghiu non è tagliata per il ruolo di Mimì. Bravo Alagna, anche se la sua voce sente delle fatiche "forzate" e non è brillante come un tempo, rende sicuramente meglio il personaggio.
Come one, 'la speranza' is totally forced and pushed! So much, that i felt my vocals hurt. Oh my, I hope is not usual, but certainly it was not normal.
I like this video so much. I like this version, more than the pavarotti's version that i have in DVD. Some "opera specialists" of youtube should better shut the fuck up because Orange is an open stage, and the voice of alagna is fantastic, with a lot of emotion and power, and shining.

This most be a parodi of the greatest operas ever made. The windmachine nearly blew the to singers avway. They even had to hold their hand beside the candles for not blowing them out. Allagna is to weak in his performance, he has no deepnes in his voice and sound more like a caraoce-singer in a windstorm. Sorry!
We can see clearly a wind blowing the singers. How can they allow that? Can be dangerous for the singers. Where were they singing? Is it an open stage? I didn't see it so wrong as the comments before. He did that ok to me (and to the public). She is wonderful on her presence.
THAT WAS NOT A HIGH C. He started to high and fell short with "SPERANZA'.. Most of this video he sang both heavier and upper register
at the wrong time. He seemed to have lost his breath control earlier in this opera. Possibly recovering from a cold..He is a good tenor evident by other performances. He his wife carried him throughout the entire opera.

This is really disappointing. No emotion, no voice, no nothing.
Keep licking the lips doesn't add to it either.
Something happend to Alagna in the recent years. At his beginning he was pretty good and fresh, but now his voice is sounding more and more like screams.
There is a video here of Domingo. Look at it. This is how it should be sung.
The are some absolutely lovely moments, but I don't know why he insists on making the voice heavier than it needs to be. His vibrato starts to wobble when he presses on the sound...to bad. Still better than most though, but nothing like he use to be.
Leoncavallo - Pagliacci ( Alagna, Gheorghiu, Mastromarino, Kwiecien, Fedderly - c Luisotti - Los Angeles) common he just isn't good here. if he practices bauybe but there is no pasion in his arias, it's like he is solving a math problem...concerned only about the result. i have no other recordings with him in pagliacci
ok..alagna is a good tenore but i really think you should listen to other operas that he sung...i mean he was terrible in pagliacci...he was a wonderful voice but he cant play a grand repertory...
I don't know what kind of terribleness of Alagna's Pagliacci you are talking about? I just got his DVD Pagliacci recorded live at Verona, and I have seen him sung Canio live in 2005, beside he is little young for that role, he was captivating in every way, I have never seen him show his dark side in that violent, bitter but very moving way.

You're a douchebag. Do yourself a favor and go see an actual live opera. Alagna sounds terrific in the house.
People who criticize opera singers based on a youtube flash player need to contribute something to the arts and buy a goddamn ticket.

criticism is easy, art is difficult. Roberto sings the aria in the tone it does not transpose like 99% of Rodolphe.
