  • fuck they're so boss live!

  • Music is not race. Music is feel, doesn't matter, who is better..in my opinion..

  • I respect gavin harrison, he is a great drummer, but neil peart is unanimity in progressive rock, I think he has more technique than gavin harrison

  • Peart's good but he's no Harrison. Harrison's good but he's no Carey.

  • amazing

  • Neal kicks ass! But this guy is a notch above him!

  • ntah apa .

  • This tune ROCKS!!!

  • Someone tell me how to find this track. I've been lookin everywhere!!!

  • @PKTANGEL You can buy it at burningshed (dot) com (Porcupine Tree>Downloads).

  • @PKTANGEL snipmp3.com... :)

  • Bellaaaaa

  • If Beethoven, Mozart and all the classic composers lived in this era they would compose this kind of music.

  • How do they play this? Although there is no more correct to ask how they invent this?

  • @RewersXP, God is in their fingers...

  • great song, great drums. sadly its a attached to depressive memories for me :/

  • Even though this is such a heavy song, notice how the audience is just standing there, listening.

    Porcupine tree is SO GOOD.

  • I actually cant believe that was a live performance! It was flawless, the playing, the sound, the vocals, all of it was perfect. I have a boner now.

  • This sounds like the music in half life 2, or at least the verses do. Porcupine Tree forever.

  • which album is this off?

  • @njoydq Futile EP... it´s something like the B-Side of In Absentia

  • @njoydq Futile. It's an EP.

  • 0:30 the bassist looks like a sly cat that is proud of itself for catching a fish :P

  • @TheJohnPetras Probably the best PT comment ever

  • Not my type of music at all, but MY GOD these guys can play!!!

    Gavin Harrison is God!!

  • OGM !! I have Drum Orgasm !!

  • Quite possibly my favorite PPT song right here.

  • Comment removed

  • PT grows better and better .SW is now very good singer and Gavin is the best drummer in space:)

  • This band isnt what it is without any of em :)

  • gavin harrison is godly, but let's not forget the rest of the band here! Steven's brilliant on the vocals on this track too ^^

  • Only a Midi track created by Gavin can replay Gavin's stuff

  • 3 dislikes = 3 numbskulls that NEVER heard real music!

  • Toda la resistencia que oponga es fútil.

[¡He encontrado un trocito de mi ancla!]

  • is anyone watching something else besides Gavin?

  • @drf1xxx3r im a drummer... and i love gavins playing... i mean really ...damn... but i recognize wilson etc. also as awesome musicians and those guitar riffs etc. do kick ass too so im also watching the others a little bit :D

  • @c0d3x001 "a little bit" says it all:)) anyway brilliant song overall

  • Mike Portnoy created 3 accounts especially to dislike this video.

  • Comment removed

  • @nicksword87 i bet portnoy would like this stuff... and harrison probably likes portnoys stuff too... they just like to drum a little different themselves.... portnoy made amazing music when you're in the right mood for it. same with harrison

  • @nicksword87 LMAO

  • @nicksword87 You must be kidding?

  • @nicksword87 4 accounts as far as I write this! Maybe the fourth one was created by Mike Mangini, who can tell?

  • @nicksword87 why would he? mike knows that gavin is great and the other way around... portnoy does what he does great... and it's the same for gavin

  • @nicksword87 trueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee hahahaha......mike who?

  • Dislike bar is laughable

  • Love the "Industrial Drums" on this one....

  • fuck that audience! they don't deserve a PT concert

  • lets see someone try to dance to this

  • hmm forgot the first sentence steven?

  • I absolutely love these guys, brilliant performance!!!

  • nice..

  • bass amp?

  • @Moroco60 I was wondering the same.. i know his Cab's an EBS. And i know he used to Ampeg amps.. but i don't know if he still does or not.

  • I am working my way though the PT vids...they just keep getting better!!!

  • One of the best sounding drums ever!

  • @LOLE1991KOVIN Correct!! he is the pitch king !!

  • My all time favorite band!!!! The musicianship out is like no other!

  • That was nuts.

  • This song rocks!

  • I love those inverted Cymbals that Gavin Harrison uses. He uses them on Blackest Eyes as well, and they sort of stop abruptly, don't ring on and on like conventional cymbals. Any drummer who knows what they are called?

  • @TheStigsIndianCousin those are called china's. lots of drummers use them. check em out

  • @guitarfreak1921 Ah, you're right. Thanks a lot man.

  • @TheStigsIndianCousin uhhhh chinas....

  • ha detto è facile la batteria di sta canzone!!

  • Loving this, but was the bass plugged in, no low end...? :-P

  • @funkybluecheese77 this is a compressed video. To compress the audio you'll tackle the low and the high ends of the frequency spectrum since they are the least crucial freqs. Hence, for better compression results you should low and high-pass your material so that your compression algotrithm can do a better job on the core freqs. Basically rid your audio of anything under 100Hz and above 18kHz ;)

But to answer your question, compression kills your low end anyway!

  • THIS IS REAL MUSIC RIGHT HERE! :)

  • Alright... who's the shit stain that hit the dislike button? Kill yourself NOW!!!!!

    This song is fucking sick!

  • it doesn't matter which song they play cause every song has somethin fantastic incredible mysterious. just a group of genius people!!

  • Mike Portnoy is good but has no feeling in his playing, unlike Gavin.

Music is all about feel not about "LOOK AT ME, AND WHAT I CAN DO" each and every song.

  • Siccccckkkkkkkkkkkk!

  • I'd say Gavin is one of the best metal drummers out there

  • @Lacara008 Gavin is not a metal drummer!!!!!!

  • @oikonomidis1 What kind is he then, I was thinking grunge, but this is way too complicated for that

  • Comment removed

  • @Lacara008 Gavin grew up in a jazz background, his father was a jazz musician,so he played mostly jazz stuff. Before joinning Porcupine Tree he had never played and listened to progressive music.

  • @oikonomidis1 Oh no wonder hes so amazing then. Jazz drummers are some of the best in the world id say, and they can come of with wicked beats

  • @oikonomidis1 In 1983, Gavin played drums with the British progressive rock band Renaissance.

  • I saw this live........but with ACOUSTIC GUITARS.(if anyone was at radio city, u know why)

  • ...and at the Royal Albert Hall! =)

  • @JaskaJunior oh i was there, its insane how cool this can be acoustic, i really hope that its on their next live album.

  • @JaskaJunior your so lucky please tell why lol?>

  • This was played acoustically at the Royal Albert Hall and for me, was by far the highlight of the night. Absolutely sublime harmonies and the twisted sounding acoustic feel was so intense. Loved it.

  • @FuryMuso also my highlight of the night at RAH, absolutely amazing! still havent stopped humming it since either!

  • @FuryMuso wow i cant even imagine how that had to of sounded!

  • Hope to see this performed at the RAH on thursday

  • @y16amp

They played an acoustic version at a special show in the states so we might be in luck.

  • @BrixSnBs I've been in two PT concerts, 2008 and 2009. In both of them people stood just as you have said. But if you try to start jumping or whatever, you might miss a chord, and that would be unforgivable.

  • i saw them at radio city last night, they opened with an acoustic set and they did an acoustic version of this. they said "we tried to think of the most inappropriate song to play for this set" and this was the song,

funny thing is, it was amazing!

  • @henry12350 I was there too. Third Mezzazine, Aisle D, seat 405. I think The Sky Moves Sideways was the best song of the night. and I'm still shocked that they played Small Fish.

  • @HATECREWrulz123

i was ground level right past the half way point to the left, it was perfect, but my favorite had to be either the acoustic version of this or open car

  • @henry12350 i was second mezzanine, right behind the soundboard. greatest night of my life

  • @JaskaJunior i was on the ground a little past halfway on the left, that show ranks up there with my bar mitzvah and first kiss XD

  • @HATECREWrulz123 i no man...phenominal

  • They played this song in radio city, but as an acoustic version it was so sick

  • This song is like a drug for me. I CANNOT get enough!

  • It just amazes me how underrated this band is and yet you see so much crap today that I would never call music, or artistic favored by all these kids.

  • destroying track

  • Great band. Great musicians :) One of my all time favorite bands.

What I don't like about the comments here is how people are comparing other musicians to these guys. Seriously can't we all just be mature about things and appreciate the good music thats out there. Every good musician has their own special characteristics. So instead of comparing them to one another appreciate what they have done by offering us great music.

    Cheers.

  • @immortalsoloist couldn't agree more

  • Akerfeldt docet...

  • Gavin Harrison is one of the greatest drummers alive these days! Just an amazing drummer.

  • @JordEs1980 All the band members are awesome, im glad that this band have a low profile and dont try to be a sellouts.

  • @007Pogo True, they are all awesome. But as a drummer, I really like to watch Gavin drum.

  • @JordEs1980 I dont, because im a noob drummer and when i see this, makes me wanna stop playing xD

  • I thought Mike Portnoy was good.

    Gavin Harrison spanks his ass!

  • Gavin makes the stuff make sense in the song. I like Portnoy too, but it seems as if he has to force his drumming to sound all technical and proggy, especially in later DT albums.

  • @thierryman As a 30 year drummer I like the clear remo heads for the toms and the ambassador head for the snare onlyl. Gavin uses the *white* heads for all his drums. And while his drums sound okay.... I do think MP's drums sound a bit more sweeter than GH's.

  • @usmcsdi69 but whos kit sounds better? GAVINS!!!!

  • @usmcsdi69 In Italy we say: "Do not mix shit with chocolate" . Well, Gavin Harrison is chocolate...

  • @NoiseAge I wouldn't go that far. MP is a GREAT prog rock drummer. Just not as good as Gavin.

  • @usmcsdi69 ...Mike who? Geez, since there is a Gavin Harrison in this universe, there is no need to think about what drummers are good

  • 45246 people love the mad drumming of Gavin

  • @usmcsdi69 Yes indeed!

  • ABSOLUTELY !!!!

  • @usmcsdi69 Harrison spanks portnoy's ass, then Peart spanks both their asses.

  • @nodrush80 I have mad respect for Neal Peart. He's a great drummer. Gavin Harrison is better!

  • @usmcsdi69 Gavin is really great, he's a breath of fresh air. But no one match's Peart's fantasy, he doesn't repeat himself very often, Gavins got great foot work, Peart is more complete, but it's all a matter of taste and what style you like, both awesome!

  • @usmcsdi69 Agreed. When Neil is gone, Gavin WILL steal his throne.

  • @usmcsdi69 Fair point. Although, as a drummer myself (and i simply adore both Peart and Harrison), i think Gavin is very much in the vein of a young Neil Peart, which can only be a good thing! Both stunning players! I love both Rush and Porcupine Tree! Long may they both continue to astound us... \m/ (:o)

  • @usmcsdi69 no fucking way

  • @usmcsdi69 it's a tight race between him and Neil Peart for the top rock drummer of all time.

  • @bernlin2000 hmm very interesting considering the fact that he has a very large jazz background. he's just very creative.

  • It's only Rock & Roll and I Like it.

  • and colin does a perfect solo. absolutely fit!

  • Porcupine Tree 4ever!!!

  • the audience looks... dead.

  • @hatwithfloppers

I'm drumming for 7 years and even I say it's hard to bang your head to some of PTs songs without looking foolish

  • @axelpl lol why do you say that

  • @hatwithfloppers That's seems to be the way people react to PT's music live, and i don't mean that in a bad way.. I saw my first PT concert about a month ago and people were just enjoying themselves in a kind of "Woodstock" way if you follow.. of course during the heavy sections there were the occasional headbanging, but most of the time people were just listening really close aswell as enjoying the visual aspects. I was almost in a trance like state.. The fastest concert i've ever experienced

  • too bad it's out of sync =/

  • this intro is one of the hardest I've ever tried to play

  • Absolutely sick drumming!

  • I freakin love that small china!! I must own one!

  • @AdamW69612 One of the best things I've ever bought!

  • what album is this from?

  • @rockon3691 It is from Futile (2003).

  • @RealistS: A B-side from "In Absentia". I can't believe it...

  • @RealistST The 5.1 DVD-A version of 'In Absentia,' according to Wikipedia.

  • @josephjester And "Futile" (Promo) (2003), according to Discogs.

  • @rockon3691 yea u can get this alblum free on their website

  • O YEAH :)

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG!

  • This is bloody brilliant progg-rock at it's best :-D
