  • My name is Jon-Kyle also O_O

  • This is an amazing work of art. I fell in love with it when the contest was active and I still watch it. I think it should have won, personally. Thank you for this.

  • goosebumps

    everytime

  • this is art, this is poetry

  • Thanks for the song title and artist. I was recently in a department store and heard this very song playing. Apparently, a new video game (PS3 / Xbox) features this amazing song. Perhaps some credit is due to Jon-Kyle!

  • This is amazing. I watch it all the time-thank you Jon-Kyle Mohr, and I wish you would have won.

If anyone is interested, the song is saeglopur, by Sigur Ros, but I hope you knew that by now.

  • You're Art is truely the best, I have ever seen.

    Simply...

    Magnificent...

  • I never tire of watching this video - the visuals are equally as mesmerizing as the chosen soundtrack.

We know you're the man behind the camera ... who authored that soundtrack and what is it called?

  • the album is called takk..., by sigur ros. and the song itself is saeglopur.

  • hey can i download this video onto my comp please?

  • Numba1boxa asked: "hey can i download this video onto my comp please?"

On Windows XP, download and install Real Player. Then, hovering the mouse over most videos will present a pop-up at the top-right of the video itself. Clicking the link will download the entire video to your PC's "Real Player Library" where you can view it indefinitely.

  • This video is sssssssssooooooooo beautiful! I absolutely love it!

  • uMMm like O-M-G this is so stupid HAhahha

    lol im naked! lb

  • this is seriously great. your photos are great. although, i think you should take more pictures so that you can use more at the end because a lot of the same pics are shown over and over (like i got distracted by that pic of the dalmation).

  • couldn't agree more. my intention wasn't to enter this originally, i simply wanted to learn how to go about editing a short film together. there are many mistakes and things which i would now change.

  • what it's the name of this song can you tell me please

  • it was truly amazing...i wish i could read all the things you name at the end. and i wish i could get it somehow;)

  • You're Art is truely the best, I have ever seen.

    Simply...

    Magnificent...

  • what's this song called?

  • Oh wow, that was beautiful.

  • Great Final!! Guau!!

  • very nice job!

  • I enjoyed that.

  • It was pretty.. I wish I could have watched the original. My work computers don't allow me to access unknown URLs

  • I so confused. I think i commented you about this twice. maybe three times. I need more sleep, and youtube needs to stop confusing me. either way, congrats still :)

  • so I watched all the winners, and i still thought yours was best...yaaaay good job JK! you must let me see the signed copy when you get it!

  • It's simply gorgeous.

    Thanks :)

  • i loved it.. much better that=n the winner!

  • awesome dude!

  • This offers an incredible amount of inspiration. Well done; five stars :)

  • WOW - I liked this one better than the winner!

  • im sori but was is this?

    your comments..

  • that's just lovely!

  • Pure brilliance

  • Pure brilliance

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • vgfyfyuuigiuhiuhiuuigygbkjh

  • I love the scratched camera and vintage effect. I love the beginning, middle and the end. Great sense of creativity. Honestly, it's a great video. :) 5/5 Great job!

  • WOW.....this...is...AWSOME. I like it and I think the world should watch this video. It's unbelieveable how they showed every little asspect that goes on in our lives that we never think about. The sound and creativity will live on forever.

  • The link is definitely better. Amazing quality and beautiful video!

  • This is fantastic! I watched the HD version on the website listed in the discription. It really is worthwhile to go see this video there. If your reading this comment and haven't watched the video yet - go to the link in the discription! DO IT!

  • someone must have been listening to a lot of radiohead..

  • someone must have been listening to a lot of radiohead..

  • You're right. Iceland is beautiful, as though I tend to think my part of the town is the best place on Earth to live in. (Novi Sad, Serbia)

  • Svaka zemlja ima svoje lepote... ali Srbija je nasa jedna i jedina. A Novi Sad je najlepsi grad u Srbiji. :)

  • Simply Amazing

  • I agree, no place like home...you have a way with video...

  • Love

  • I'm not too sure what this whole thing was about but apart of me inside understood. Great perspective.

  • thanks kiki

  • absolutely gorgeous : )

  • awesome

  • Sigur rose the artist loove it!!! watch the video

  • Words cannot descibe this video. I loved it. honestly loved it.

  • this is gorgeous

  • Good job!

  • Very cool!

  • love the storyline great film

  • pretty cool

  • bien fait.

  • what's mean by this vido?

  • wow, that's impressive. particularly the last part. well done.

  • ssssssssssssssssss

  • great

  • Simply amazing!

  • u know this video is a lot better than the winner

  • thank you...I learned alot from this

  • amazing. there no words to describe it. its just... wow. 6 out of 5 stars

    if thats possible

  • Speechless.

  • I liked a lot of the layering you did with the video (like the window frame shot & the small tv), and I especially liked the end. There were some parts that dragged out, mostly because you just took the straight footage and didn't do much with it. My only other criticism would be the text that you included, I'd rather have the imagery speak for itself. But definitely this is one of my favorites so far. Great job.

  • oooo its nice!

  • OK, the NUMEROUS posts on this subject is a little overbearing. There's no description as to what it is, and to be honest, who wants to spend all this time trying to figure out what the 6+ videos are about?

  • check the right side of the youtube front page.

  • Cool stuff.

  • wow, I wish I could rate this video more than once! Great job, is amazing :)

  • i like the animation but what is this about

  • it's an entry for sigur ros's "minn heima" contest. if you're meaning more what the short is about, visit my portfolio and click on "minn heima".

    jon-kyle[dot]com

  • Excellent job. I noticed that a lot of the same Iceland shots are used in Minn Heima related videos, but you still did a good job at cutting them together. I also liked the text graphics at the end.

  • Thanks! The band supplied some footage and the main objective was to put the supplied clips together in your own way. I also just didn't have time to create much of my own footage.

  • B-E-A-utiful.

  • wow! Great video. I really enjoyed it!

  • that was really great. this one easily could have won.

  • i think this was my second favorite. this is unbelievable! i think the "Hringvegur à Gong" would have to be my favorite just because it is the most meticulously crafted project of them all and it has more of their own stuff in it (all the artwork). however, yours is more inspiring i would say. i love the "my home is:" part where you then list everything that is your home "the thunder, the stars, the beach". great idea! this is super super amazing!

  • i agree with what you had to say about "Hringvegur à Gong". and i wish i had more time to create all my own footage and artwork for my entry. this was my first venture into any sort of film editing, and i learned a lot. i'm looking forward to the next opportunity that comes up to create something like this

  • thanks for the comment! i agree completely with what you said about "Hringvegur à Gong", and i wish i had as much time to put into my entry as they did.

this was also my first real attempt at editing film. learned a lot and i wish i could go back and do it again. there's always next time i suppose, haha

  • i apologize, youtube comments on this video are acting a bit antsy.

  • fdsfsdfdsfdfds

  • Wow. How this didn't win is beyond me. Beautiful and absolutely amazing. And I see what you meant by compressed.

  • what is minn heima?

  • Whats what I was wondering, I saw all these videos, so what is it?

  • "Sigur Rós have extra footage from Heima, their gorgeous film chronicling their free tour around Iceland in 2006. It includes live footage and stunning landscapes, so they are offering it to you to re-edit and make your own.

We ask you to take this raw footage and craft it into your very own mini-documentary to be uploaded to our contest-specific YouTube Channel."

  • That was stunning, beautiful, exciting, brilliant, and every word similar to those.

    I loved it.

  • Nice one. The video blends well with the Sigur Ros sound.

  • Brilliant! This song is amazing and you created an excellent movie for it.

  • I normally don't comment on YouTube, but man that was great.

It really captures the landscapes of Iceland, and the ending colors were incredible.

  • This one definately deserved to win, above that horrible, taccy thing with the red balloon

  • Great video, beautiful.

  • Excellent work!

  • That was excellent!

  • so delecate and elegant!

Hey, I know what you mean about the having to compress for youtube and all, but you can see this really well!

    *****

  • Wonderful!

  • WOO GO JK YOU ROCK WOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video - and use of texttures. But funny to read the description of a video featured on YouTube's home page begging you to watch Vimeo instead!

  • thanks! i know, hahaha, one of the more ironic things i've seen.

  • i think this one should have won the sigur ros video contest.

  • Fantastic ending, kudos.

  • song???

  • Captivating. Brilliant. Moving. Eternal. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Too bad the website listed at the end of the video does not work (likely received too many visitors).

  • Captivating. Brilliant. Moving. Eternal. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Too bad the website listed at the end of the video does not work (likely received too many visitors).

  • Wow! That is simply brilliant (I watched it under your posted link). The end nearly hypnotized me ;-)

  • it still looks really good, despite all the compression. good work.

  • marvellous.

  • Thats a really enjoyable video you've got. Great work, thanks.

  • I don't even know what Minn Heima is, but this video is amazing! I loveee it.

  • That was wiked!!!

  • the ending rulez:D

  • this was amazing. thank you for it.

  • real good work there.. loved it..

  • Love the ending <3

  • yes mate, you made the top ten..

    i knew you would.

    all the best.

  • I love this song. been a few years...

  • loved this! esp the ending my home is....

    (and watched it on vimeo)

  • Amazing!

  • This was absolutely awesome!!! Loved it!

  • Congratulations!

  • You've got quite a talent with with Jon, even my editing professor liked it (and that guy is pretty hard to please). anyway i think you deserve first place, not only because you made a good video, but because you obviously put a lot of time and effort into it. good job.

  • hey! i appreciate your comment, means a lot coming from someone who obviously knows what they're doing when it comes to this kind of stuff.

i also really value your professor enjoying it, makes me want to keep on perusing short films and the like

  • Oh boy! i love it....can we all vote, or is it judged by a panel of judges? love it, love it

  • it's judged by a panel, but i really appreciate your comment!

  • WONDERFUL! You have my vote.

  • thanks!

  • Hey man this is great, if you'd let me know what program you used to make this that would be great....dont worry I wont be using the stuff for my sigur ros video but just for future reference it would definately be good to know because I really like what you did...thanks

  • no problem! i used final cut express. if you really want to get big into the animation give after effects a go.

  • very interesting, i'm using a combination of imovie and final cut express, i didnt know you could animate like that with final cut but i am an newbie to say the least, definately worth looking into, but thanks and good luck!

  • I don't see the added value of the dirty lense effect, especially since it's used throughout most of the video. Other than that, great concept, great effort and nice climax at the end.

  • thanks! and i was going for a lomo look. i loved the shots for the hvarf-heim cover, and i'm pretty sure those were taken with a holga, so i tried to use the kind of style.

i figured if some of it was picture perfect hd video, while some of it had the dirty lense would be a bit odd. i was trying to keep it all from the same perspective.

it was my first time making anything like this, so live and learn i suppose. i notice things now that i'd definitely change.

  • I think the concept itself (like you explained on your website) is so strong, that you should have focused on that entirely, without making it look more pretty or interesting with an effect like that :) Or or you could have used it to add contrast, structure or variety, like the effects I've used in parts(!) of some of my videos. That's just my opinion (and style) though...

Is Sæglópur your fave SR song btw?

  • i'm not quite following you. the entire style is part of the story and what home means to me. it's raw, messy, etc.. the song also inspired me. that's just what it looked like in my head.

and you're absolutely right about style. there's no right or wrong answer here, it's how we interpreted it differently, and that's what makes everything unique. hope i didn't come across rude or anything, i'm big about constructive criticism and jump at the chance to talk about any work i do.

  • I misunderstood you. I thought you were going for that style just because you loved it on the Hvarf-Heim covers :) It's clear to me now what you wanted to express with that effect, but, unlike other aspects of your film, I personally didn't consider it to be part of the story when I first watched it. I just saw it as an arty mask of muddiness. No offence; I truly like the film overall.

  • not a problem! i can see where you were coming from, and to a certain point agree with you. the whole style is slowly being used more and more without reason, but i think it fits here. especially the heavy vignetting until the very end.

and like i said, it's my first time making something like this. learned a lot doing it, and your comments have made me rethink some things i did. it's all good, live and learn

  • oh, and i don't have a favorite sigur ros song. i love all of it, haha. sigur ros just happened to fit what i had in my head, with the build up at the end and all

  • Yes, the sounds and images fit together quite nicely!

  • Ok....... That's great. I think I've found the winner...
