btw, Europa Universalis 3 and Victoria 2 has far more realistic diplomacy and economic models. And Arma 2 and Combat Mission are games with MUCH more "realistic" battle mechanics. But they are not games a simpleton like you could play. I suggest you stick to your cartoonlike TW series.

Partly agree with this review, but he was way too soft on them for the bugs. This game has HORRIBLE bugs. The AI is completely and utterly broken, a fact which the developers freely admit, explaining that it's because their lead AI designer moved and had to leave the project, essentially leaving them in limbo.
But despite knowing this, instead of pausing a while to get a new AI designer and get things running smoothly, the devs decided "Lets launch this broken piece of shit anyway."
So even though the siege AI was completely and utterly broken, that fort defenders would form a single diagonal line down the battlefield regardless of what the opponent did, OUTSIDE THE WALLS AND WITHOUT ANY ENTRENCHMENT WHATSOEVER, and the battle AI was so hopelessly busted that it would get stuck in decision loops, marching infantry back and forth across the same patch of dirt in front of a barrage of cannon fire while their guns limber and unlimber endlessly, THEY STILL LAUNCHED IT!
This speaks very strongly to the ethic of Sega as a publisher, and Creative Assembly as a developer.
They basically threw up their hands and admitted defeat instead of trying to fix Empire, their existing Total War game, and made Napoleon a whole new game even though it's PAINFULLY OBVIOUS that it was supposed to be just an expansion.
Thus, players can have a badly broken Empire with bugs a-plenty but a nice big map, or a broken Napoleon with more bugs and a tiny map with only one continent.
Suffice it to say, Empire and Napoleon have made me think VERY seriously about whether or not I want to risk my hard-earned money on Shogun 2.

I think your overstating the difficulty of this game. It's difficult to be sure, but some tricks and suddenly the challenge drops in a disappointing way.
I'd give it a 7,2 because of a lot of unresolved issues with the possibility to go up to 8,5. No higher because of the scope limits that Empire didn't have (although this is the better of the two games).
rome total war 2 would be nice - with the game engine of Napoleon Total War-- as much as i loved Napoleon Total War and empire total war - rome total war will always be my fav game in the series it was such a leap from medieval total war 1

thanks for assuring me that it could run on "not so advanced" machines! The empire total war demo didn't work for shit for me, but this demo worked almost completely fluently with low settings.
It really doesnt look different anough from Empire. Just feels downscaled, if they simply patched Empire to have all the extra 'qualities' this game possessed then it would be much better.

@SonicSidewinder no its only in europe, but they really added a lot of intricate things which arent quite noticable in this review. such as different unit stats depending on terrain, new units, and etc. I have not exactly played the entire game but i played at a friends house (ive played Empire total war) this game is a worthy expansion
I wondered why they even bothered to include a tutorial since the first real campaign is incredibly easy.
I played on hard/hard difficulty settings and basically rolled over the map with a single army and had tons of money I didn't use. (I don't like "very hard" difficulty because the AI doesn't get any better, it just cheats)
In Empire you could at least adjust the difficulty by choosing a difficult to play nation.
the seiges piss me off, one second its a city then you build walls and all signs that it was a city are gone and tehres nothing but a fort. and when i attacked rome, it looked like a small village, not the rome i remebered i guess

I doubt there will be a ww2 game made.. Considering army formations isn't used anymore, it would be a more confusing, and alltogether smaller scale than the other total war series.. They could make Caveman: Total war though :D

Before Empire: Total War, the only RTS I had played was Endwar, and the only other PC game was ARMA 2. But, I got used to the interface, controls, and tactics after three plays of the demo.
Like I said earlier, if Total War is REALLY hard for you after playing it for a while, then it simply isn't your game.
Hitler: Total War. They should make that game it would be epic. Imagine defending against the AMericans on D-Day with scarce supplies and forces, or invading poland, or attacking Russia and France. Wow that would make an epic game.
@TheBiggestWolf I'd prefer an Alexander Total War. One that isn't an expansion to Rome, one that isn't half assed and is actually worthy of the great man himself. With Napoleon, I know they can do it.

I think, now hear me out, that creative assembly should do what they did with medieval, and make empire two, an entirely new game that still starts in seventeen hundred but ends at 18- whatever napoleon ends at (i havn't bought the game yet) but seeing that my favorite era in history had to have an uncompleted game to represent made me die a little inside...

I think your overstating the difficulty of this game. It's difficult to be sure, but some tricks and suddenly the challenge drops in a disappointing way.
I'd give it a 7,2 because of a lot of unresolved issues with the possibility to go up to 8,5. No higher because of the scope limits that Empire didn't have (although this is the better of the two games).

It really doesnt look different anough from Empire. Just feels downscaled, if they simply patched Empire to have all the extra 'qualities' this game possessed then it would be much better.
How can you go from near-global Total War with Empire to just a few sections of some continents?
Are there no trade theatres in this game?
Is there a global campaign map like in Empire -with the napolean campaigns just operating in europe?

@SonicSidewinder no its only in europe, but they really added a lot of intricate things which arent quite noticable in this review. such as different unit stats depending on terrain, new units, and etc. I have not exactly played the entire game but i played at a friends house (ive played Empire total war) this game is a worthy expansion

Hard? steep learning curve?
I wondered why they even bothered to include a tutorial since the first real campaign is incredibly easy.
I played on hard/hard difficulty settings and basically rolled over the map with a single army and had tons of money I didn't use. (I don't like "very hard" difficulty because the AI doesn't get any better, it just cheats)
In Empire you could at least adjust the difficulty by choosing a difficult to play nation.

I doubt there will be a ww2 game made.. Considering army formations isn't used anymore, it would be a more confusing, and alltogether smaller scale than the other total war series.. They could make Caveman: Total war though :D

Before Empire: Total War, the only RTS I had played was Endwar, and the only other PC game was ARMA 2. But, I got used to the interface, controls, and tactics after three plays of the demo.
Like I said earlier, if Total War is REALLY hard for you after playing it for a while, then it simply isn't your game.
