  • @FumaTeste i can swim on land

  • Has anybody actually learned this? o.o

  • @SpencerHead0 one can't simply learn a Broderick lick!

  • bach would be proud

  • so much theory that it became a chaos o::

  • Hi I'm Chris Broderick, and from now on you'll be playing bass.

  • @redneckredemption246 Glad to see that copy and paste works on your computer lol...

  • Lets Kill Him,, Thats our only way for relief =D

  • The neapolitan chord for the g minor scale would be Ab major not Eb. Eb is the 6th chord of this scale. First, figure out the second scale degree. In G Minor, this is A. Next, lower it a half step to Ab. Finally, build a major triad. Ab, C, and Eb.

So Ab major is the Neapolitan chord of G Minor.

    Just sayin

  • @guitarran: You would be right if the exercise was in the key of G minor. The exercise, however, is in the key of D minor. It just starts on G minor (4th scale degree). He does however, change the key to G minor at the very end by turning the D minor into D7 (V of IV (not V of V)) and ending it on G minor. At least, I'm pretty certain that's how he's approaching this.

  • @XSDarkMoonZX Honestly I really wasn't paying that close attention. My bad, I normally don't comment so reactively. I did remember him saying something about starting on or with a g minor arp in the 3rd video installment so thats probably why

    I was thinking g minor.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention -- peace.

  • @guitarran: No worries. It's good to know there are people who actually understand music theory and various musical concepts unlike the majority of metal guitar players.

  • @XSDarkMoonZX Well that explains it then, I'm not a metal player ha ha kidding. I just dig all forms of music, but I favor old school prog...that would be cause I'm an old dude.

    Peace.

  • @guitarran I was wrong, I was thinking it was g minor although it is indeed in d minor.

So the neapolitan chord for d minor is certainly Eb maj -- opps.

  • @guitarran the technical term for a neapolitan is a flat major 2 chord, in first inversion. so, basically, In the key of "C", it would be Db major 6.

  • i dont even know why im watching this anymore...I'm gonna go continue to waste my miserable life.

  • ...but will it blend?

  • his playing is epic

  • Comment removed

  • i'm gonna shwo you the rest of the lick i showed you last month... i haven stopped playing since

  • okay, it was 50 seconds long but it seemed it was more than 50 minutes! time-warp technique, it was so fast we couldn't even understood it so our mind just slowed it down to process it.

Okay, enough of this shit. He is one of the most perfect guitarists amd musicians. He is more underrated than Rusty Cooley!

  • I laugh everytime I see him play because it is so amazing how he plays like that xD

  • now, each time I play a G-chord, I cry

  • im sure he has thousands of bitches waiting outside his house everyday for him

  • WHAT GUITAR IS HE USING IT SOUNDS SO ULTRA SICK ?

  • this guy is seriously a killer

  • ibanez misses you chris

  • Can switching to Geico really save you 15% or more on car insurance? Is it possible to ever be as great of a guitar player as Chris Broderick? Oh, well.. okay then...............

  • sssssssssssppppppppppppppaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • tabs?

  • does he fix the pick????

  • @Chrisguitarplayer666 he has a little pick-clip on his thumb so that it doesn't fall off.

think he's trying to work out something so that it gets out on the buyers market soon :P

  • amazing

  • ....but can he play smoke on the water?

  • @GetSumNutz probably. and not just the intro either

  • @GetSumNutz He can play it by 2 fingers :-)

  • @GetSumNutz he could probably walk on water

  • @GetSumNutz He can roll water into a joint and smoke it

  • 0:21 - 0:25 - i can play this part)

  • Oh i get it...The minor natural arpeggiated diminished arpeggio is used in this one run.

  • @moreiraeladio1 No no, it's minor harmonic augmentified neapolitan formaggio dominated-by-a-red-headified arpeggionic arpeggio

  • @mastergohan thanks for clearing that up. For a second i thought that the Phrygian scale was finagled and diminished.

  • @moreiraeladio1 Yea, I can see where the confusion is. The difference is very subtle, it's in the bottom-of-the-8th inning 7th note. If you listen very carefully, you'll get it.

  • Oh i get it...The minor natural arpeggiated diminished arpeggio is used in this one.

  • Oh i get it...The minor natural arpeggiated arpeggio diminished is used in this one.

  • Oh i get it...

  • My computer broke down at 0:53 from Chris playing in 16/8, and all different kinds of arpeggios. I typed this on my friends computer.

  • Hey Chris now i know how the guitar sounds; how do they play bass & drums on your planet? i cant fucking wait for the MEGADETH this summer.

  • This kind of stuff is ok for a bit, but gets old, much like Yngwies style. Satch and Vai are still way more creative in the song writing and style process. And makes for a much more pleasant listen. Plus they play outside of the box, without any limited walls keeping them in.:D Course that's why they are the two biggest instrumental guitar playing artists of all time.

  • @jerm26554 Well Chris is a different kind of player, so...you can't really compare him to Vai or Satriani. Have you heard his classical pieces though? I'm sure that's pleasant listening, for me that never gets old. Oh and please tell me that you don't honestly believe that Chris doesn't play 'outside the box'? He's going all over the place man. To each his own I guess.

  • Oh... I totally know what your talking about Chris Pfffff

  • tapping thingie reminds me of michael romeo's betcha can't play this lick

  • i bet his girlfriend is pretty happy.

i saw megadeth live last summer, and i must say...it was a great privilege to watch this epic man do his thing

  • I need one of those picks!

  • @MrAndy24deth You need more practice my friend

  • @difima I need one of those pics so I could start practicing :D

  • it sounds kinda dirty

  • i wanna play like that

  • Great playing, but I don't like those harmonics at the end. With that crunchy tone they sound terrible in my opinion.

  • This guy might be the only guy who's solos are better than Dave Mustaine's Marty Friedman could have done it, but for whatever reason he didn't.

  • @0ZAZU wait, so even marty friedman couldn't write a better solo than mustaine? maybe i didn't understand that, but i call BS on this one

  • @chandlerblancaflor Friedman's solos could have been better but he never really upstaged Dave on any of the albums. and Dave's Pretty fuckin good but Marty Could have been better

  • @0ZAZU i'm not trying to talk shit; Dave is good in his own right, but there's no way he could out-play ANY of the other guitarists in megadeth. If you prefer Dave's solos that's totally ok. nothing wrong with that. but it's pretty well documented that dave's solos are typically sloppy. he's had his moments, and when it's good, it's definitely good. but you have got to be fucking kidding me if you think the other guys couldn't play better. marty is much cleaner than dave. FACT

  • @chandlerblancaflor those guys are better but they never upstaged Dave because his solos were always much bigger

  • @0ZAZU bigger? what do you mean by bigger? that could mean many things.

  • @chandlerblancaflor you know, on the albums many of Mustaine's solos were faster and well better. I'm not saying Marty's weren't phenomenal, but usually there was more anticipation and excitement for Mustaine's.

  • @0ZAZU i'll give you that there was often more anticipation and overall excitment for the spots where mustaine would do a solo, but sitll... better? how do you define better? at this point i know it's merely opinion, but i'm sitll curious. for me, Marty's solos were always more tasteful, cleaner, and had much better phrasing. again, it's fine if you prefer dave's solos, but I feel like saying he couldn't upstage dave is unjustly misrepresenting marty's guitar work in megadeth.

  • @chandlerblancaflor what im saying is that Marty could upstage Dave but he didn't.

  • @0ZAZU alright, fair enough i suppose. this is where opinions simply differ.... with that said, i still beg to differ... lol. whatever man. that's fine if you think so, but all i can say is if you really dissect what both guitarists are really doing on the instrument, you might find far more in marty's solos.... just saying...

  • @chandlerblancaflor commecially speaking Dave's were better. Technically speaking Marty's were better. that is what I'm trying to say. sorry if i didnt make that clear.

  • @0ZAZU it's ok, it's not like you have to apologize. but commercially? i mean, i suppose i can see that. i would say more "traditional" in terms of just straight thrash metal shredding. in that case, yes, sure.... but now that we've completely strayed from the actual topic of this video, i think chris broderick is easily the most technically advanced guitarist megadeth has ever had thus far. i can see why you'd say he upstaged dave in that respect cause he is definitely more intense than marty

  • @chandlerblancaflor you just nailed what i meant to say at first.

  • Chris Broderick is a dream killer! hahaha lol

  • I hate how people say they want to quit after watching this sort of stuff!! shouldnt it inspire you?? doesnt it show you that this is what you become if you practice??

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz they are joking...

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz You're totally right. This guy is a monster and for me, he inspires me a lot. I don't really like megadeth but this guy is amazing.

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz exactly

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz The thing is only about 30% of guitar players actually pick up the skill and get really good. Only 5% of those skilled people become famous. The reason I always say that I might as well quit is because lots of money and many years has to go into it. Brian Haner (Synyster Gates) went to guitar college. Chris Broderick has been studying music history and theory almost his whole life. I have a Korean Stratocaster, an old Marshal amp. I never got lessons.

  • @FroggerFilm

and the other 25% are unknown for a large portion of their career.

  • @FroggerFilm Hey man, don't get discouraged Eddie Van Halen built his own guitar never had lessons and look where how far he got.

  • @pijpok Which is the difference between Eddie and Chris.. EVH doesn't have all this planned out stuff.. it came straight from the heart.. which is the what makes someone unique because your not playing a set pattern that anyone else with a music theory background can play.

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz haha exacly ive been playing for a year and a half and im about halfway through this thing and in the off time ive been learning sequoia throne by pth

it really should but people are lazy and generally fail at being funny

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz EXACTLY!!!!!

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz Some men just want to watch the world burn.

  • @JimmyJimmyJaymz agreed

  • Algun día queda lejos ya¡¡ ahora sera la Jackson...

  • algun dia...voy a tener esa guitarra! xD

  • this has encouraged me to play MORE so that one day i can get this good

  • I don't dislike Megadeth but I think maybe they should start playing Chris Broderick music instead of him playing their music. I'd listen to that!

  • What is that little tissue thing on his thumb?

MAYBE: Maybe it's to stick the pick to hold it.....=P

  • @AqworldsInformations No. It's actually a thumb pick. Google it, they're good for those who don't want long nails but give a slightly brighter tone than nails.

  • @iHateBeingViet wrooooooooooong, in the second video he says he made it to hold the pick while he is playing 8 finger tapping

  • Today Chris Broderick shows us how to sell all of our guitar items while he is sleeping.

  • whats that thing on chris finger that holds his pick when he is using two hands for tapping?Stunning playing as usually :)

  • @sk8orDie2431

it's Chris' own invention he calls a pick slip. basically just a ring that you can slip any regular guitar pick into. he made it so he could do his crazy 4 finger tapping sections without having to dispose of his pick. I want one fo sho.

  • cruelty. guys like chris are the reason I gave up playing the guitar.

  • what kind of sick, twisted person would make videos of themselves, showing off their talents and posting them on the net!?!

  • Shawn Lane, people...Shawn Lane.

  • imagine him in Dying Fetus!!! THAT WOULD BE SIIIIIICK!!

  • "Hi I'm Chris Broderick, and today I played like 50 notes between 00:00 and 00:01 if you didn't notice yet"

  • Got me lost at -00:01

  • THE MAN should SAY HELLO I'M GOD AND I'M GONNA TEACH U HOW TO PLAY GUITAR

  • i think marty friedman is crying when he is seeing this video hahaha

  • Dave is so damn lucky to have him. Chris is a perfect kind of guitarist for Megadeth, technical and crazy as hell. Marty was perfect for his time in the band, but these are getting to be the last few years for Dave it's starting to sound like after listening to some interviews lately, and he needs (and far more than deserves) to have a kick ass guitarist like Chris around.

  • I realized that the second part isn't him explaining about the first part, just my that my mind was buffering and didn't have enough playback becuz of the crazy abuse it took in the first minute

  • it makes me feel good knowing what hes saying, even if i cant play it haha

  • i just got owned listening to him talk about the theory side of it -_- FML

  • Hey chris you is very good holly shit !! kkkk

  • chris...f**k you!!!.

(starts crying and cuts the neck off my guitar)

  • hey chris i just heard that kirk is begging for some lessons, be patient with him pls

  • @tutuqueroooo I do like Kirk Hammett but that's funny, man.

  • Comment removed

  • "Hi I'm Chris Broderick. Today I'm going to show you how to shove your guitar up your audience's ass and continue playing as you normally would at home in the comfort of your living or basement perhaps."

  • the only reason i cant do that is that i dont have a 7 strring

  • A hemiola? Syncopation? I hope he doesn't do the wrong chord by mistake 'cos he's doing the Oppenheimer's here..

  • shit.. tapping sounds more complicated with this guy..

  • this pattern sums up about every necrophagist solo ever written

  • Did he just say E Flat Neapolitan chord??

  • lol this video is pretty cute if you're a beginner. I'm way better than this Chris Broderick character.

    No, no i'm not. I suck :(

  • @DimebagVision Naah, you don't suck, your'e just mortal like the rest of us :)

Also he go to a college for Classical Guitar and trained like mad to get to where he is.

  • i just took a shower and it didn't help. Send this to anyone who talks of "mindless shredding"!

  • i just took a shower and it didn't help

  • just because something looks scary, doesnt mean that its as difficult as you think. stop saying you quit, or being so negative. just practice regardless if it looks out of your skill range, how else are you gonna do it.

  • One thing im sure... im better on guitar hero

  • im dead

  • I Think I've Just Been Ear Raped.

  • and he needs a pick because? :D:D:D

  • F U C K! D:

  • jeez now i feel so much more inferior... But DAMN can he play the guitar. I'd love to have half of the talent that he has. I don't care if you don't like him you gotta love his music

  • the tone is realy bad

  • @gdanskJam It's called a toggle switch, retard...

  • @gdanskJam you have a bad sense of tone then :P

  • technically malmsteen is not as good as chris. i think chris is better, BUT malmsteen was first and he has a smoother picking technique than chris. plus a better tone and (tastes) vibrato, but chris is a true musician and fucking incredible.

  • no man malmsteen is good but not as great as chris broderick i seen chris broderick front row live now thats a true guitarist

  • o0

  • this is nothing i meen c'mon i could play this with my eyes closed....while im sleeping...in my dreams

  • Obviously a very technical guy but he just sounds like a robot.

  • @Hertsman50 I disagree, but opinions are opinions.

  • My brain has just exploded.

  • .........roadhouse

  • is there a tab for this anwhere?

  • @young0wylde0child guitarworld magazines. I think it was like July or August or some time around there.

  • fucking noice.

  • "Hi I'm Chris Broderick, and today I'm going to go through how to put your guitar on ebay" lol.

    I quit.

  • @miserableoldcunt just because u see some pro guitar player doesnt mean should give up man

  • Comment removed

  • @wrstnitmar547 mate I'm useless, I have hands like catchers mits. all my friends are great rock/metal musicians, one is even a very prolific jazz guitarist. it's a bit soul destroying to be honest. everytime I think I'm making some progress I see someone like chris or my friends that make me realise I'm retarded.

due to an abusive relationship I put the guitar down for nearly ten years, I just started playing again.

all I wanna do is just be able to play basic metal/blues rock.

    I suck.

  • @miserableoldcunt play baseball \o/

  • @miserableoldcunt jajaja yes you`re right...

  • @miserableoldcunt Haha, this video killed my self esteem as a guitarist and a person.

  • @miserableoldcunt oh dude calm down! dave mustaine is a way worse technical player than chris but he writes astounding songs so keep playing because i'm sure with all this knowledge he has, has no "real" songwriting skill. one of the best players in any genre but hey you can't teach someone how to write a good song. so who cares if he does d minor triad scales faster than kim kardashians sex life? just play and enjoy!

  • this is the first time i heard dominant five. what did he mean by that?

  • @bombershard

dominate 5 is the 5th chord of a scale with a dominate or flattened 7th

its one of the most common and important chords

  • @nihility666 so , say it were a A minor, the dominate 5 would be E?

and flattened 7th scales were only be considered for natural minor then,

right? and so he says dominate E, then E G B and D. or do you mean the dominate chord has a flattened 7th? i know, that part if thats what you meant, but i just never heard the phrase dominate 5. in which i am not sure if you meant the chord has a flattened 7th or the scale does. sorry, if i misunderstood ^^ ~

  • @bombershard yes thats right the dominate 5 of A minor would be E7

it's common practice to borrow the dominate 5th from the harmonic scale and apply it to natural minor because... well because the dominate 5th defines the key,

E,G,B,D is a minor 7th, what determines a dominate chord is the major 3rd and the minor 7th, the interval between them is a tritone, its what gives the dominate chord its "dominate" sound, makes it stand out so much and has the need to resolve to chord 1

  • @nihility666 whoops, yeah E, G#, B, D.

but in natural minor, the seventh is flat, and in the harmonic,

7 is not, just the 3rd and 6th no?

  • @bombershard

yes thats correct but we're talking about the 5th degree of the scale not the 1st

the major7th of the harmonic minor is the major3rd of the 5th degree of the scale or phrygian dominate scale

you'll notice to 5th degree of the natural minor is a minor7th chord where as the 5th degree of the harmonic minor is a dominate7th

  • @nihility666 thanks for trying to fill me in but my knowledge of theory is

not as great as yours. i'll write down what you said on paper, with the scales

to try and understand it better. thanks ^^

  • HOW THE HELL IS ANYONE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?!?!

  • Hes cool :D

  • Hi im chris, this is some shit that i wrote in backstage five minutes ago HIGH FIVE!!!

  • reminds me of this Bach piece

  • i just jerked off! thats how fucking amazing this was!

  • guys guys, we dont have to kill bieber, just take out his voicebox and throw acid in his face

  • Wow, I just realized when Chris plays the keyboard style arpeggios (taps them) it kinda really reminds me of something from Final Fantasy 7, weird.

  • @CanukMetaller21 he playes violin, piano, guitar and i dont remember what else

  • oh come on ! this is way to easy !!! im tired of these videos with the so called ''basics'' lol

  • Keep that damn camera in focus! I thought my eyes were getting fucked up trying to keep up with Chris' hands... haha

I think GW just unfocussed the camera so they can keep this stuff a secret.
