Both DKM and The Tossers' version is very good. They vary in style, they have different approach to it and they both do it very well. I couldn't say that one of them is actually better. Cheers everyone!
Is there a non-live version (Or live with better audio) of this on YouTube? This is one of the Tossers' best songs and, while decent I suppose, the sound quality on this video could be better.
Like a lot of the more recent DKM songs, I can't help but think that they would be better if Mike was still with 'em. As for the Tossers' version, it's one of the highest points in their career.
Why did Mike Leave? I am a hardcore DKM fan but don't know why he left. Love this version too by the way, but I must say the best version would have been the diggers singing it through WW2 just for the context of which they would have been singing it.
I was under the impression that Mike left to pursue his lifelong dream to become a Boston Firefighter, and after several years he then formed Street Dogs
maybe, but the tossers did it first. or at least were the first folk-punk band to do it. and they recorded it 11 years before the murphys did, so i'll give them more credit.
of course its older, but the tossers where the first folk-punk band to do it (like i said) so they had to rearrange the rythym and texture of the song to fit it to a non-folk setting, which is no small task
The Tossers shit all over them dropkicks...but The Pogues shit all over the pair of 'em...

Hey, I got a question, who actually wrote this song? I see many bands doing their different versions, DKM for example.

it's a 19th century Irish protest song

paratrooper321fa 3 years ago
No, it's not. The Tossers are definitely punk rock. They're just better at it

DKM is a better version. end of story.

DKM's singer's haggard voice can't carry this song.
joedestroys 4 years ago
Completely disagree. His haggard raw voice makes it better, to my ears. Though this is also a fantastic version.

Mike left DKM to persue other forms of music. Jeff is a good addition to the band though.

Thats what i read off their website. You may very well be right. Thats just what i read.
thesaint6169 2 years ago
he formed the street dogs because he missed the music. and your right, he did want to be a boston fireman, which he was

Actually the song is much older than either bands. I love both versions.
