  • Sheshadri))))))))))

such a nostalgy, especially when you get out from India)

  • Sheshadri at Mysore Mandala!

Wow so good to see him at work!

    Have you got any more?

  • yes! pushes you just as far as you can go...it's amazing his wealth of knowledge. can't wait to go back!

  • Want to know why this is bad for you? Because it's disengaging the supporting muscles. The major reason yoga is so good for you is because you're using your muscles alone to place yourself into a posture. That's what develops such powerful control of the body.

Using props like this simply emphasises some muscles at the expense of others, weakening the body.

  • doesnt look like it's to good for ur back? would it be very easy to have an accident doing this and get a serious injury?

  • eso es yoga, el profesor sabe todo que él está haciendo con su alumno, vale ;-)

  • la flexibilidad se gana con el tiempo no asi...eso no es yoga...

  • Yeah, this was a long time ago. That rule went into affect a few months after this was filmed, if I remember right. At the time sheshadri was quite happy to have cameras in class, but I think at some point he felt they were a distraction.

  • esto es malisimo... la flexibilidad se gana con el tiempo, no es que en una clase vas a hacer un escorpion.

  • once you tasted it, you'd not think this is torture.

  • What about the benefits now, of this Torture (hahaha) ...lol...? Would really like to know... THx.

  • Sure. It helped me to learn to relax in difficult situations, to develop a relationship of trust with my teacher, and to develop flexibility safely.

But I'm not here to advocate it.

  • so you are sending the wrong impression to people who know nothing about yoga. your teacher might have helped you but you did say that you have seen others injured by this technique, so i suggest that you take it down altogether. i find it to be introducing a dangerous notion. please forgive my boldness but i feel very strongly and i have met some foolish people along the way. thank you for considering my requests.

  • It's true that I've seen people injured by overly strong adjustments. It's something that I really dislike. But I've never seen anyone injured from this particular one - Sheshadri never did it to anyone but me while I was there. So long as a knowledgable teacher understands when and when not to give such adjustments I think they can be quite nice.

Regarding the video title - it's just a joke.

  • yoga is no joke to me, it is very serious, so I still hold firm to my position. entering torture into the subject of yoga is quite inappropriate.

  • Fair enough. But I think there's a difference between thinking that yoga is a joke and being able to joke about yoga.

But anyway, to each his own.

  • Loosen up! It's quite obvious that he was kidding. shanti shanti shanti!

  • roboramma, i would ask that you at least change the name of this video, asana practice has nothing to do with torture,

  • well, those people in the video look like fucking retards, crazy and weird. Only weird people would do such things.

Going back to your comments, I think u should enjoy life and loosen up, go find a girlfriend!!!

  • well, yo! i was not talking to you. why are you even looking at this?

glad to be weird, peace, 3RAVEN

and hey, I am a yogi and retard means slow, if i am a retard it means that i have slowed down enough to see the way the world works.

the word namaste means (we all come from the) "one light".

  • Well I've seen sheshadri adjusting women in an extreme way. He shouldn't push them so much in baddha konasana or upavistha, those women were suffering, I could see from their red faces. I'm sure Sheshadri was getting some kind of sexual satisfaction from doing that!!!

  • oh my god! take it up with sheshadri, I'm tired of this. comments are not a boxing match!

  • go and fuck yourself then!!

  • peace to you! why do you have to get nasty? smoke a joint brother!

  • I'm joking!!! brother!!! I think I need some peace, thank you for the advice!!

  • there yo go!

    no yoga, no peace

    know yoga, know peace:)

  • I don't understand that ... I thought Yoga wasn't meant to make you suffer ... so why "torture"?

You should not torture yourself ... Is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to be able to do such a backbend? ... Sorry, but this kind of chocked me ... I need a bit of an explanation concerning this video.

Last question: what are the benefits of being able to do such a "strong" back bend?

  • Don't worry - it isn't torture - the title is just for comic effect.

This adjustment actually feels quite nice, as do most of sheshadri's. I've had bad adjustments from people before, but this one is really comfortable.

Now, of course it isn't absolutely necessary to be able to do such a backbend. But as long as it's safe there's no reason not to.

  • This is Sheshadri from Mysore

  • your laws are not applicable in india

  • why a yoga teacher wouldnt touch you would be simple. local laws insurance vs law suit. such a thing would require an exellent rapport with the teacher to help minimize dammage. not that im claiming to know yoga that well. but it would appear to be comon sense

  • I've tried this method and it does work, it's alot easier because you can let go of the rope/cloth etc if it's going too far. But I found it really tough on the tender parts if you know what I mean, how do you get round that..? ;-)

  • Quite Beautiful!

Are you keeping your legs strong, not letting them bend at knees? I guess this keeps the lower back strong, and moves the arch into the upper back.

    Namaste

  • Amazing!

Georgelotus: Your yoga teacher doesnt even touch people ? Strange, they are supposed to touch people and stretching them. I do not know why our yoga teacher doesn't.

How long have you been doing this backbend improvement, roboramma ? :)

  • was that helpful to improve your backbend? I would like to see some more indian training techniques. My yoga teacher doesn't even touch people...

  • That felt great, my backbends improved with him. But, I've seen a lot of people pushed too hard and injured because of it. You have to know your limits before you try these things, but they can be really helpful.
