I sure love all the people that love this song my dad wrote and so great to see how it is still liked so much Dad's original version is one of the best. Check out his new CD on You Tube under lee Emerson also go to all music.com and get a sample of all the songs even I Thought I Heard You Calling My Name. Thanks
I am a lifelong fan of Porter and rate this song on a par with Be A Little Quieter, two of the best songs ever recorded , Porter may have past but his music will always live as long as we keep listening and requesting his voice.
thanks for postin this great song by the one and only Mr. Porter Wagoner, may he rest in peace. i member watching him on the grand ole opry and always thought he had such a great talent. he sure had a great way of singing them songs.
This is a great song. Brings back a lot of good old memories. Thanks for posting!!!! I Miss the good olle' country music. I don't think it will ever be the same Porter was one of the best.
I commented a year ago about this wonderful song done so great by Porter but I would like to add that I think Porter would have a terrific host of a country music show - similar to what Crook and Chase have done in the past. He had quite a sense of humor and was always a cut up and he couldn't keep from laughing. He had a terrific personality. Porter always looked so classy - I loved his gorgeous suits - he looked the picture of a true entertainer, wish there were more like him today. -Paula
It's so sad tht you shucked Norma for Dolly. But I guess plastic wins out .Dolly does have a distincutive voice but NOTHING like NORMAS!!!!! \ Long live live NORMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@lymar2vcr I am personally a much bigger fan of Norma Jean than Dolly myself. I simply put the pictures I had available into a chronological order as a tribute to Porter after he passed on in 2007. I wish that I would have had a good picture of Norma Jean handy when I did this or better yet one of them singing together.
@jamesabilly Not to say one doesn't exist, but I don't think Porter ever sang a duet with Pretty Miss Norma Jean. Lived in Corbin KY when I was young so all of this brings back a ton of memories. Thanks
@carsonky - Porter and Norma Jean did sing a duet of "I'll Take A Chance on Loving You" which is found on YouTube. We watched the show faithfully through the years. I like both Norma Jean and Dolly as Porter's singing partners. - Paula
@Phil0267 Parkview was a mental health & substance abuse treatment facility in Nashville, Tennessee that both Porter & Johnny Cash spent time in during the harder times of their careers. This inspired Johnny to write the song for Porter 1976. Johnny gave it to Marty Stuart with instruction to later give ti to Porter when the opportunity presented itself. This came to fruition when Marty was producing Porter's last album- "Wagonmaster". Powerful song indeed :-)
What a wonderful golden classic country song. This song has always been a favorite and even tho I like many other artists' versions I always go back to Porter's. It was always so pleasant to hear and see him whenever he was on televison and I loved watching him on the Opry. His classy outfits always impressed me so much. Porter was the perfect performer I feel. His band was super. Thank you for this memory - your pictures are great. - Paula
He had it all!!! I loved his music, his sound, his songs, his performances, his shows!!!
"The Porter Wagoner Show" was the highlight of my week for years!!!
There will never be another Porter---just like all of the others that have 'left' us!!! They each had a special sound---not like the 'studio' sound of country music today!!! They all had/have real talent!!!
Johnny Cash's style will never be matched either, because he crossed all musical boundaries successfully, and made whatever he sang his own. He also created his own subgenre.

George Strait covered this song on his box set 'Strait Out of the Box' - nothing against Porter, but I kind of like King George's version better...

It is still great that we still have Willie, Merle, Ray Price, George Jones, and Kenny Rogers.
