People are too hard on this interviewer. I think he sounds the way he does because he's self-conscious about his English (especially talking to Mikael, who obviously speaks really excellent English). He's very good at getting Mike to open up and talk freely.
It seems that the interviewer becomes slightly fraightened, after Mikael says the part about that he would "...kick his ass, if someone asked why" You can hear it in his voice... Haha!
cool. all these interviews were really interesting. i didnt discover opeth until after they released blackwater park, so it was great that he talked a bit about the early days as well.
just seen all 5 parts... the way he speak, and define things, and say them, just reflects the brilliance of opeth and mikael. after watching all this, i'm disappointed there aren't 1000 parts for the interview. i just feel he has a lot more to say, that i want to hear.
Opeth are the greatest band ever. people should never underestimate the emotional quality of the music, it should only be regarded and respected as the highest possible form of art. Thanks heaps for posting the clips, interesting interview.
That's exactly what I was thinking when he was about to say "the baying of the hounds". My fave Opeth song, and one of the most unique songs they've ever written.
Yush! Mikael Rules! It was funny when he said "If my daughter is sick then I leave everything and if someone asks why I would kick his ass, you know. That's my life"
I just sat here and watched all 5. Thanks for posting this, I love getting to know a little about band members and in this case the direction Mikael has been trying to go in his career. Again, awesome videos :)
that was cool. i wonder who mike was referring to when he said "our sound engineer was a drunk" when he was describing the reasons why he didnt enjoy recording delieverence/damnation on vid 4? steve wilson from porcupine tree produced both those albums - i wonder if it was him he was referring to? i dont imagine that steve is an alcoholic, especially seeing mike names him as an ongoing influence.
initially SW wasn´t the producer on those records,he jumped in after a while when the band decided to break their collaboration with the first producer.
Saw all parts. What an amazing interview. Only thing I would suggest that you should have done was talk a little more about his playing and not his career. He is an amazing guitarist, and I would like to know especially more about his guitar influences, how he approaches practice etc etc, just you know a min or so that could influence the guitarists a little bit :P
I am a Christian and I still can enjoy his music. I don't take the lyrics literally at all. However, I do make use of his lyrics to support my faith and know there really is a devil and he does seek to devour!
Thank you very much for showing this, I love hearing people's stories, and from such a fascinating band to listen to, it's just amazing to hear the story of the creator of what I consider one the greatest metal bands in existence. :)
Great videos! I love Mikael and Opeth and his account of the band is inspirational.
That interviewer was a pain in the ass though and you could tell Mikael thought so. "If anyone asked why i would kick his ass"... i think that was for the benefit of the interviewer haha... Love this guy.
Haha! Yeah, I know. When he says: "If anyone asked why I would kick his ass" you hear the interviewer: "O-okay" HAHA! ^^ haha. He's really stupid. Of course Mikael as a father would leave a tour if his DAUGHTER got sick!

The interviewer brought out interesting conversation. I think he did quite well despite his poor English.

I bet Mike intentionally said that he'd kick the person's ass knowing that the interviewer was about to ask it, just to save that him an ass kicking.
