@NLterror6000 i think its to get the oil up to temp faster , since they change engines regularly they dont worry about expansion of cylinder rings in proportion to the rest of the engine . plus , i think with the cam timing they dont idle right . i had a bike with crazy cams and the thing did not like to idle , barely started 13.4 to one compression . some of these are like 15 to 1 !!!!. the bike would get smoother as you went up the rev range . maybe something similiar
It's not alu headers. It would never last. Aircraft grade alu has nothing to do with the heat resistance, but strength, stiffness and corosion resistance. Those headers are made of inconel or titanium. Don't make dumb comments like that when you do not know what you are talking about.
sweet to bad they are done with indy . but thats cool the street bikes are coming and my brother painted nicky haydens red bull rocket for the race so that will be cool .
i always thought that metal melts when it's on fire and glowing like lava...and that dude to the right staring into the headers is going to be deaf even with earplugs.
@Anon2600 diggin in the vaults eh? My initial price was a baseline guesstimate, hence the +. Secondly, I've learned a lot about f1 in 3 years. I think back then I assumed the motor was all the same compounds, which it isn't. Aluminum alloys are more commonly used in the blocks, while as someone noted above the headers are typically made from titanium alloys or inconel, which is just a fancy term for a trademarked stainless steel superalloy. Ill delete my previous post to avoid further confusion.
Those headers are not on fire, they are jsut hot enough to glow and if they get up to the melting pont of their material (maybe titanium) they will melt.
Shove electric cars up your arse, this is what its all about!!!!!!

why do they always rev the engine, and not let it idle for like 5 ore 10 mins?
