  • its a good film-hey he did a good job-now you know joy division-so dont slag it-do it yrself-master has spoken

  • if you think this is ian curtis I have some swamp land you might want to buy

  • Had the look just at first. Then it all went to hell.

  • Ian has a bit of a Joe Cocker thing going on

  • this is a song from "the Crow" but it was done by nine inch nailes.

  • another shallow attempt to capture something that cannot be captured. the audience is the worst part. SHALLOW

  • He looks just like him.

  • 3 oscars for Corbijn.

  • Rik Mayall

  • Sam Riley did a great good for this movie but i would have had original artist do the music thou

  • @duko1965 talk sense boy

  • foda\o/

  • @26271892

u lot talk shite, ok nobody in particular but you know who u are. Cocks weren't there!

  • it's a movie!!!!! get over it

  • Just so everyone knows this is not a NIN cover!!! NIN covered it for the Crow. This movie was about JOY DIVISION the original artist. and maybe we should just be grateful that they are recongized at all!! Joy Divoson brought us to our culture as we know it today (musically)and many would just like to hate them.

  • This is the worst NIN cover I have ever heard. The voice is horrible and the musicians just miss the mark.

  • @starrmegeddon Idiot.

  • แทบไม่น่าเชื่อ

  • He doesn't even sound British at all? I'm confused. Sam Riley is the actor here and he is from England, so how does he not sound English?

  • That is the voice of Sam!?

    Or Ian's voice?

  • @JonasVanRetro They sounds pretty similar, but it's Sam's voice :)

  • The Telemarketer Song...They keep calling me

  • @N8trone - Lol! m/

  • I always thought Sam Riley looked like Stuart Sutcliffe (one of the original mmembers of the Beatles).

  • seen them at the paradiso, remembering, souvenirs, souvenirs

  • lol nice biopic dude

  • He is not Ian!

  • This is better than Trent Reznor's version.

  • This movie moved me like none other my generation ( i'm 11 so i mean kids) need to see stuff like this than playing freaking call of duty

  • @Formypeople68 You have an old soul, you are probably a very deep thinker. !

  • Caaaaaaaaalling me. Caaaaaaaalling me. THEY KEEP CALLING ME!

  • everytime i see this is wanna watch the movie again;.. great movie!!

long live joy division!!!!!!! long live ian curtis!!!

  • WHOA He had a siezure

  • Id kill myself too if I did that every gig

  • now i see where Ross Farrar gets it

  • Excellent film. What a loss to music. Wish we could get Ian and Jeff Buckley back.

  • this isnt joy division change the description and heading

  • Nice dance. Ian looked better, but he's great.

  • looks like a young Jim Bruer

  • HE DIED? :( fuck

  • @laurag333 no, he's alive. google???????

  • @laurag333 He didn't die then, but his epilepsy and seizures became uncontrolable over time. While on tour, lack of sleep and long hours worsend his condition and that's why curtis would have seizures during shows. Depression must have let him to suicide because he hung himself in the kitchen of his home.

  • @talkin79 i understand that poor soul of Ian... I would probably hung myself too if i wouldnt get the medicine so fast. I have 'normal' life again.

  • awesome!

    <3

  • it's good to see that you don't have to dance good to be a total badass. :) RIP Sam Riley The world misses you...

  • @Demonmustang68 Sam Riley isn't dead; he was the actor who played Ian Curtis in the biopic Control. Ian Curtis is dead. This isn't Joy Division, this is the fim Control's actors playing a Joy Division song, acting as Joy Division.

  • @xDeadMisfitsx I know...I was having a bad day when I posted that. I realized it a few days later but just said screw it.

  • Timeless.

  • 6 years ago you could have watched the REAL thing but THANKS to JEWTUBE and VEVO all you can watch is some actor from a movie.

when we come to chop off your corporate heads don't ask us WHY

  • It's not Joy Division. It's not Ian Curtis. The description needs to reflect this.

Actor does a good job visually but he doesn't sound anything like Curtis. He doesn't articulate his t's, he pronounces them like d's, so he doesn't even sound British at all. I would have dubbed a track of the real band over this for the movie.

  • @ExiledStars Exactly; & you CANNOT imitate epilepsy....

  • @ExiledStars you have a point but their not going to make it accurately, nothing can be done perfectly, dont have so much pride for the band. They did a good job recreating it!

  • @ExiledStars Dubs are terrible. I'd rather have a good/more accurate visual film than a good sounding one. He doesn't sound like Curtis, but that's not the point. They don't make the music.

  • @ExiledStars It says it the description...relax psycho. If you were SUCH a rabid fan, you probably would have taken the time to see the film, Control.

  • @amatoanima You read that 'discription" for us than...smartass.ExiledStars rightfully ignored your stupidity...I don't.

  • @ExiledStars Thanks..I was almost fooled.Knew about 'm,but not that good. Hate those fake video headings.

  • Of course it's not Joy Division, but in my opinion he does a very good job sounding like Curtis. The tone of his voice at moments is very similar, and as for the pronunciation, Curtis was well known (not unusual for many Brit singers) to sing with more American rather than British accent. That was why his style was often compared to Frank Sinatra.

  • @TheMuzfly I think the fact the actor is also a singer and performer is a big factor in why he is convincing playing Curtis. If he was a non-singing actor it wouldn't be as good. They were just lucky to get an actor that not only looked like Curtis but sounded somewhat like him too.

  • Nevertheless, I agree and do not understand why they did not put the original track on.

  • @TheMuzfly Maybe it was financial reasons or legal reasons or even technical. I imagine it would be harder to get the actor perfectly in sync with original music as this is not your average performance is it. It might not look as effective as having the actor doing the whole performance and singing. I think he does an incredible job and when I first saw this I thought it was Curtis!

  • Sam Riley looks more like Ian Curtis than Ian curtis does

  • i love joy division so much, fuck, if ian curtis was alive now.

  • @Commiteee Yeah it's originally a Joy Division song. Released sometime before their second album I think. Late 70's-early 80's.

Yeah, definitely sometime in the late 20th century between the birth of the recording medium and the death of vinyl. Thanks for that.

I wonder why someone would write such lyrics.

    MrUncreated hace 4 semanas

Perhaps they put the telly on and found it was off cos of the 3 day week. I can´t understand why everybody isn´t happy all the time but there you go. Amazing

  • what if he was channeling and it wasnt epalepsy?

  • @MrFalconford it was epilepsy.

  • something about him swaying to the bass thats makes all my hairs stand up at the back of my neck..

  • @JacobMPereira I do to, the album version was good to but this is better.

  • @JacobMPereira I do to, the album version was good to but this is better.

  • I wonder why someone would write such lyrics.

  • 25 Jahre habe ich die Musik nicht gehört ......einfach genial... muss ich mir immer wieder anhören ..

  • I assume NIN cover this song and not the other way around, right? Ian killed himself before NIN was formed....?

  • @Commiteee Yeah it's originally a Joy Division song. Released sometime before their second album I think. Late 70's-early 80's.

  • this is not Joy Division. This is some band covering Joy Division. That is all.

  • @TheSchmuck2 its for a film called 'control' wich is a biopic of ian's life

  • @cgalla0307 *nonplussed*

oh i am well aware of that. Well, as long as it gets people listening to the REAL music of Joy Division... trust me, it's on a whole nother level. :D

  • having a fit thumbs up.

  • This isn't Joy Division...It's Sam Division...Which is just as cool but don't get people mixed up.

  • 8 people are gingers... get it?

  • @07foxmulder LMAO!!!

  • @07foxmulder I don't get it.

  • Are u insane Hell yes Cobain was a musician, as well as a lyricist rolled all in one. RIP Kurt.

  • Is it true the actors playing Barney, Hooky, and Stephen learned to actually play their instruments for the concert scenes? I mean, are they miming in this scene or wot?

  • @DaftSwank Yup, they're actually playing the instruments.

  • wow, it was like an Goth James Brown at the end!

  • Sam Riley would play and excellent James Bond....Any comments?

  • @dprague I couldn't agree more.

  • My greatest respect for Sam Riley for this amazing performance.

  • @Orgsgrym definitely agreed

  • Most people say he looks nothing like Ian Curtis. But I think he looks a hell a lot like him. I think they got a pretty good performing/character actor to do his part.

  • meh... not real Ian = fail.

  • The Annika girl in this movie was so gorgeous

  • @ArthurWar4you for sure!!

  • der geht aber ab x'D

  • niezle tancuje, jak paralityk na amfie

  • 7 persons are totally stupid, or retarded!

  • @siewert69 stupid,so stupid!!

  • @siewert69 *people

  • I only recently discovered 'Control' but OMG i watch it at least once a week, and you'll notice its not just Sam looking like Ian, they all look like their counterparts, scarily so in fact. I liked this version better than the NIN version, but the NIN version was good for the era.

  • omg I love this movie!

  • the guy that plays Ian is CUTE!!!!!!

  • OMG I love the way he dances!

  • Trent Reznor is one of the best damn things to happen to music. his cover was excellent, the music was amazing, but i really would've preferred Ians voice instead.

  • First time i listen to this band, and i love it!

Yup, my friend was right one of the greatest bands of all time!

The lead singer is gorgeous btw(:

  • @PurpleTragedy13 And you are aware that this is a scene from a biographic movie about the real lead singer that hung himself back in 1980? The actor's name is Sam Riley.

  • @phantomlord91 No But Now I Know... Thankss (;

  • @PurpleTragedy13 You're very welcome! :) You should really see this movie "Control" about Ian :o I've heard about Joy Division before but when I saw the movie I became so much more interested!

  • @phantomlord91 Yeahh IVe Seen It Before.. Its amazing.. Btw The Guy Who Plays Ian, Look Very Much Like Himm... Or atleast Thats What I Think Lol...

  • @PurpleTragedy13 I got to agree to that! And yes, Sam Riley looks a lot like the real Ian...If Ian had a son it'd be Sam :P

  • you people disgust me, i love Joy Division and i love NIN cant someone like both of them cause it seems to me that you are being musical snobs and there the only people i hate besides fascists, and before u say Joy Division was a nazi band, they were trying to be sarcastic, it was Mancunian irony

  • @IanCurtisisagod OI Fascists aren't Nazis. >:l Ignorant slob.

  • NIN sucks

  • NIN sucks! Joy Division the best!

  • The best! Liked the movie. Ian was at least 25 years ahead of time.

  • 'I'm a believer of Joy Division fucking Halleluja!'

  • I like the NIN version better

  • these lads did a great job with this... a great tribute to the late Ian Curtis. Also love this movie.

  • @eycrow Your opinion is as poor as your grammar.

  • @eycrow WTF ¡¡¡¡¡

  • ian burn in hell you fuckin enneagram 5w4 prick!!

  • Eerily similar to Ian wow!

  • - Wonderful...

  • NiN. Even their name is revolting & ["sex"-] SICK!! One of the best ever 'Light Show' seen in my Century v.05... 'coz, closing the night at the1st Sasquatch Fest there was No-Thing left after BAUHAUS further rip'd The Gorge wide & deep. I'm actually "happy" for that bloke T.R., to have seen him "before 'n after" [??] hearthy health, and Right There take a pause to honor Natural Beauty, and Natural Joy. Good Bless America!!

  • this vid is totally punk rock

  • @Hacks98 are you american?

  • @MrMUGS94 Why would you even ask that?

  • is that a blooper where he has his shirt tucked in, then he doesnt?

  • joy division<3<3<3

  • 1:24 - 1:27, looked like he was on rollerblades,,,,,

  • lol dance ian was in more trance

  • He portrayed Ian very well..RIP...IAN

  • HAHA! Love his dancing :] I should try that when I go out :P

    Joy Division never die :D

  • Sam Riley did a fabulous job x x Doesn't mean that mr curtis isn't missed xx

  • This is probably why I don't like the film ... it makes Sumner, Hook & Morris look like idiots, this event is based on a live performance around when they were supporting the stranglers and the rainbows, but in that case the other 3 actually stopped the song and carried Ian backstage, not like this where they keep playing and only after the song is finished and other people carry Ian backstage

  • Very David Byrne-esque, I can dig it.

  • NIN covered this song.

  • the most old school of old school goth.

  • @vikingninja72 yeah but unlike the goth this is actually good

  • I cant help but laugh at the dancing. Anyone that says different is being over serious.

  • @Dragnim not over serious but respectful i mean that dance is not a laughing matter it came from a serious disease known as epilepsy :P

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 Thank you. [THANKYOU-THANKYOU-THANKYOU!!!] I've been every time, and that for decades, discovering different dimensions in The Space known as Ian Curtis & JoyDiv but, Why?, What Is it?, No way! Synchronicity?!, or (unmentionable) Epilepsy?!? I've also been Blessed w/Partial-Complex Seizure Disorder... it has been the job of Our Collective Ignorance Agency Int'l to "curse" Us: w/drugs, w/demands, w/the "Program", w/thy ways, w/thine good & perfect "Health" B.S. Even Mum runs off.

  • Fair play to Sam Riley, it must've been very hard to capture the intensity of an Ian Curtis performance and he passed with flying colours, well done

  • control was a sweet film

  • it's sad that the faked movie footage has more views that the real footage from Hear are the Young Men.

  • @AntiMusick r u crazy the real video to this song has 600,000 hits check it out dont ever say that the host should should delete ur comment

  • nope you are crazy because there are more than a few copys of the orginal live video on youtube.

  • @XXXXNanoXXXxxx I don't delete comments because I strongly believe in freedom of speech. Also, to the other guy, there's no reason why youtube can't offer real footage and film :)

  • @AntiMusick While I agree , it s also the curse that comes with a band of this stature that has been bio' ed and kids today will hear of the movie first , but if they like the music they will seek out the real artists' performance. I hate that kids think this is a nine inch nails song. But what can ya do , except hope kids will seek out JD's work and love it as much as us who own Factory Recordings:]

  • A great performance as Ian ....I always get astonished when it gets to the end.

  • I'm an old Joy Division fan but seriously, Control sucks and the surviving members of Joy Division think the same. The movie doesn't show Ian's humor and is 95% about the "Unknown Pleasures"-period, which is the directors' favorite album. "Closer" was recorded 6 weeks before Ians death... As a director, I would pay more attention to that album because it's full of Ian's pain. And Reilly looks like Ian, but his dancemoves suck, too military, too theatrical... That's NOT Ian Curtis at all.

  • @Berlinerschnitzel might be true but Control was more accurate than that 'happy people' docudrama which everyone involved with Factory said was rubbish.

  • are you refering to 24 hour party people, becuase that movie was awesome

  • @Berlinerschnitzel The rest of the band didnt say it sucked. They said his life didnt have that much drama. It was all for the film. And of course the dancing is different because it isn't Ian Curtis, no one saying it is. His interpretation of the movements is not that bad. i think you refuse to take it for what it. simply a film loosely based on the life of Ian Curtis and Joy Division.

  • I liked 'Control' but you're right that the film didn't reflect Ian and the band's humour. Ian was always pissing about and joking. That's why his suicide attaempt and later suicide came as so much of a shock to the guys.

  • Sam riley captures ian curtis so well, i didnt actually know that they performed all the songs apart from love will tear us apart and atmosphere R.I.P Ian

  • Ian, Cobain and Morrison amazing musicians and song writers.

    Poor souls!

  • @3azabb

    + Layne Staley

  • @3azabb Hendrix too :)

  • @3azabb take cobain off that list. his lyrics were shit beyond shit i mean for one of their songs the lyric is "And I don't care. I'm so horny. But that's ok." i mean really? That isn't poetry like Curtis and Morrison did, thats just basically writing what you think and putting a good beat behind it. hell anyone can do that

  • @xDeadMisfitsx You are right that some of Cobains lyrics were purely raw angst without much poetry and could definitely be considered crappy, but I do believe that he had some good lyrics as well in there. You have to admit that the guy struck a nerve with a lot of people, whether it be good or bad. Maybe he was at the right place right time but they were pure energy on stage as well.

  • @xDeadMisfitsx , In my opinion, Cobain had an intellect that can't be measured. By the way you're missing the most important part of that line you wrote. "And I don't care. I'm so horny. But that's ok," after that he says "my will is good". I find that quite hilarious.. hes making a statement about sexuality.. Take a good look at alot of his lyrics and you will find that there is a web of connections that seemingly dont exist. That being said, don't get immersed in the nuances of his words.

  • @3azabb Their deaths cut their careers short, thus their is less to criticize about them, thats why we see them as such great musicians.

  • @Stalinsurfstheweb would you apply the same argument to Bob Marley, Hendrix, and so many others who have died young. A great musician is for all times.

  • @3azabb Neither of those were musicians, they were vocalists
