  • Ahead of its Time and still will be so a Thousand Years from Now!

  • It's A BEAUTIFUL WORLD with Devo!

  • Beautiful song!!

  • 12 people live in the "beautiful world"

  • One of the best music videos ever made, it should be in the Smithsonian.

  • "Play Whip It"

    "No... Play the other one."

  • Not many songs fill me with as many feelings as this one can. I still don't really know why.

  • Truth be told, it is a beautiful world that we're privileged to live upon...

  • @Kneco77 Implying the Earth is the world. We live in the world not on the world. Neither are we privileged to live here, you and I are 2 of an infinite amount of living organisms.

  • Boojie boy sent into a spin when he sees himself at 2:10!

  • This song is awesome, Devo's version, and RATM's version. Stop arguing of which one is the best. I love both of them.

  • we are devo

  • Where did that cartoon come from at the end, the one showing the guy suffering from radiation poisoning or something?

  • One of the best videos of all time!!!

  • Epic.

  • Booji

  • 2:40 Its mai world

    And isn't it beautiful?

    Answer: yes.

    For you...

    not for me.

  • Its a beautiful world look friends

    *Points at window*

    We're in WWIII :D

    Isn't it beautiful?.

  • This is one of the most cynical videos I've ever seen. LOVE IT!

  • still fits yet more .

  • ratms cover was better i think, but it probly wiuldnt happen if it wasnt 4 the original

  • @cba321427 Child.

  • what a great song and fantastic video!

  • Its a beautiful world.. But only because this song is in it.

  • This song is nastier than you can ever believe, man..

  • "Boy and girl with the new clothes on you can shake it to me all night long"..

  • YES

  • RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is one of the only groups in music the speak up on whats going on in the world there debut album in america when they hit mainstream was bull's on parade a great album more great albums also have not heard the devo cover they did but i imagine it rocks hard

  • All Quiet on the Western Front

  • I know that feel, Devo.

  • This song reminds me of Fahrenheit 451. I love this band.

  • Comment removed

  • I know, random question, but is it just me, or did good 'ol mark look a lot like that serial killer from LA noire in this video?

  • It is NOT a beautifull world, by the way...

  • This whole tune is morbid and evil..

  • "Boy and girl with new clothes on, you can shake it to me all night long"

  • <3

  • Ugly Americans anyone?

  • Do you not realise that they're not happy?

It's a beautiful world... for you... but not for me

He is trying to convince himself to be happy.

Been a fan of Devo for a long time and more people should be.

  • Comment removed

  • and the message still fit for actual days and nothing changing to better... Fuck mankind!

  • @scando1444

I disagree. The bitter sarcasm of the original gives the "It's not for me" line much more punch. The RATM cover's melancholic style gives it away too early.

  • @EyeoftheU no Devo sounds happy about the world sucking.

  • @EyeoftheU Who is this RATM and how dare they defile such a sacred song?

  • @DawnOfTheDead991 The Rage against the Machine cover isn't actually that bad, man. You should check it out, you might like it.

  • @Bieji Okay, I just didn't know what RATM stands for

  • Futurama forever!

  • Devolution!!!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!

  • 2:43 made me cry the first time I saw this

  • Comment removed

  • 8 people took it for themselves

  • Rage against the machine cover is better......

  • anything that respects free choice and the fact that i dont have to like it on earth is okey dokey chunkey monkey piggly wiggly with me folks

  • Guy in crowd:Play whip it!

Mark:NO! *to the band* play the other one.

  • The B-52s just did it better in every way than Devo that's why they got in to the hall of fame and Devo didn't...Their first two albums beat anything Devo ever did...I like Devo too but let's look at what other bands were going on at the time...

  • @itchyparts1 i like your sense of humor

  • Boojy Boy freaks me out.

  • devo's masterpiece...this and prince's dirty mind record got worn out on my turntable back then.

  • does anyone know the other instrumental at the start of an early devo album???

it was a fast paced almost dance track

    not sure which album tho

    thanks

  • we have fucked up this world so much

  • this shit is trippy

i liek it very much though. the RATM one is good also, but in a different way

  • 1:58 - 2:01 - WTF? Epic!

  • Selena Gomez in the 1:53 minute

  • Great, great, great song (it's a beautiful world with DEVO)

  • Saw them at the 9:30 club in DC, couple years ago...it was non stop electrifying, permeating, one of the best concerts I have ever been to!!! Matt

  • this is the best video ever.

  • Every body copied Devo!

  • Boy'n'Girl with the New Clothes on. You can shake it to me all night long. Hey Hey!

  • I'll take this song over "Ryan Titters" Good Life anytime.

    Onerepublic of assholes.

  • Oh Dad, we're all devo!

  • i think primus copied their weirdness they rooock!

  • I think this is one of the best videos ever made. Aside from the guy with the rubber mask at the control station, everything els is great. Especially when the lyrics say beautiful people and they show Klansmen and then the cartoon about Radiation poisoning then the cheerleader...

  • "What a beautiful world, one that as all beautiful things leave me to dust and death, because I suffer, and die to live, and am only left to laugh at my ever fading and burning self, I have died three times, I wonder when it happens for the last time"- Clarence McCarthy III

  • Please rise and remove your hats and fake brostaches for the Planet Earth anthem!

  • eat a larger plant based diet~~spuds!!

    norml

  • Ottimo tutto!

  • it's a beautiful world for u for u for me...

  • for you

    not me

  • @lobur12n12 they were spot on for their time politically, socially, and econocmially

  • anyone notice the fake smile fading from the maraca girl right before shit goes down?

  • @Buzzeee: When HASN'T the world been f*cked up??

  • wow first knowing only ratm versions of all their covers and then listening to original versions sounds wierd. lol, I like this one though.

  • Beautiful World is such a great song, but is anyone else excited to see Mark Mothersbaugh in the documentary “Programming the Nation.” I just love how this guy seems to be active in society rather than sitting on his money. bit. ly/qUuUCp

  • This video is spectacular!

  • :D?

  • Can you believe Mark Mothersbaugh now writes all these cartoon show songs? Strange world, indeed.

  • @SolidGold1980, that's simian child, 'Booji Boy', a sub theme of DEVO.

  • great song 1:09 at 1:12 XANADU BUILDING

  • Superb love this track and the video,,, i miss the 80's brilliantly crafted videos, which were works of art, not like some shit thats made now, not many are being creative with their videos ,, just stick some half undressed chick in front of the camera, and wiggle her arse and the kids think that a great video!!! WTF?

  • These guys could care less about the RocknRoll HOF. They are Artists. They are DEVO.

  • @Burleism

Agreed. Rock And Roll Hall Of Lame just isn't cool enough for DEVO.

  • @Burleism we're all devo. WE'RE ALL DEVO!

  • As we know Devo means De Evoloution. Makes me laugh at the way they show why we shouldnt conform to the norm

  • Brilliant song and video!!!

  • Such a dark dark song.

  • @MrPing1000 some of the darkest subject matter makes for the best music, films, books, etc.

  • @MrPing1000 sort of reminds me of "Girlfriend in a Coma" by the Smiths.

  • wow devo from the 70s and im still devolving.

  • im just now getting into devo's music and im loving this great stuff ! devo should be in the hall of fame these guys helped make the music video format they are legends !

  • I think they don't even want to enter to the rock hall in the first place or they don't even care, but yeah, they totally should be there

  • Perfect Circle referenced this video in their latest video "Imagine". I thought that was a great complement.

  • @MrFunfisher

"Imagine", among many other music videos, was created by Devo's bass player, who also designed their outfits and dome hats.

  • Excellent, honest assessment of the world, unfortunately; at least not all favor this status.

  • This is one of those bands I label as "criminal" that they haven't made Rock Hall of Fame. This tune is SO one for the ages.

  • love the way the video twists into sinister sarcasm, while the songs maintains its upbeat tempo, awesome

  • Love this song and video!

  • Booji boy ftw.

  • whats the name of that character Mark M. Plays with the mask?

    Its so ethereal and creepy!

    Much love for Devolution

  • @Mikeol2006- the character's name is Booji Boy. Can't link here- look it up.

  • Anything popular tends to be shit. The fact there not popular is a good sign for them artistically.

  • @brownie1982ad That is an idiotic generalization, and you're wrong about Devo's not being popular. They're quite popular. Mark Mothersbaugh has a very big following.

  • @CaribDevist

No its a very good generalization. Also most people have barely heard of Devo. I don't know any irl who listens to them. There stuff never gets played on the radio. Most popular culture is low brow filth and trash.

  • @brownie1982ad I'm sorry, did Devo not get enough radio play to qualify as popular? Has Mark Mothersbaugh's solo stuff not appeared in enough commercials and TV shows to qualify as popular? You are dead wrong, my friend. Devo enjoyed quite a bit of popularity.

  • DEVO was way ahead of the time, an intellectual, socially relevant with groovy playful beats. Remember way back writing to their fan club when I was in grade school and they sent me for free a signed black and white photo of the band. Funny, Bob1 and Bob2!

  • @RegulaPrime still ahead of their time

  • Go SPUDS!!! keep rocking

  • They (DEVO) needs to revamp this video to show the current times. I remember this when it first came out. I was dating a guy who drove a Corvair (Corsa) Great car. I don't care what Ralph Nader says. He, the guy I was dating, taught me how to drive manual transmisssion in that car. Let's see...1981? He was the cats PJ's. Miss you Dan S. (Louisville, Co.)

  • Yehaww its back!!

  • Great song. Never noticed this before, but at 1:10 I believe the guy with the jet pack is flying past the building used in the movie Xanadu.

  • The perfect concert: Devo and They Might Be Giants. I would pay big bucks and drive hours and hours to see that!

  • Saw them on this tour in 1981. Out-fucking-standing.

  • Thank you for posting this video. This is a great song.

  • Back then it was racially charged in favor of the black man for there despair as you can see but I think now days since Reginald Denny and the active gang violence that has blossomed has since shifted the view and now some of the ugly views had the video been made today would be focused more on gang violence and thug life because this is the worst generation of anti establishment ever because it serves no purpose for moving forward except drug and money flow associated with extreme violence.

  • devo's best. in my humble opinion. with hot bitches nonetheless.

  • devo's best. in my humble opinion.

  • Not for me!

  • this is the saddest song I've heard in a while. absolutely incredible.

  • ratm version was great 2

  • How D-E-V-O is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is criminal!

These guys were way ahead of their time musically and socially.

    Vote them in!!!

  • @raggabass I'VE SAID THE SAME THING FOR A FEW YEARS NOW.......SO COME ON NOW DEVOTEE'S LET'S GET THE SPUD IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME.......or DIE UNDER DADDY'S CAP......SMEGHEAD......LONG LIVE THE ENERGY DOME & POMPADORE HAIR PIECE.....IF ONLY MY YELLOW JUMP SUIT STILL FIT ME......

  • @raggabass Rock and Hall of Fame is also in Ohio, Which is where Devo is from. >:(

  • @raggabass I have a hard time imagining their accepting their nomination into the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame.

  • @raggabass The R&R Hall of Shame is a joke looking at the hacks like the material whore who sailed in so soon with so many classics who've been around longer or are just so much better. Let's see...hackneyed disco retreads like "Material Girl" or satirical irony of this song (& perfect video)... Personally I'm into the artists, not any awards like oscars or whatever. But I feel your pain Brother! ...or did till I realized I can't stand institutionalized popularity contests...;-) Peace!

  • @raggabass Totally!!!, the thing is these songs are still WAAAYYYY ahead of where anyone is even today.

  • @raggabass Was just at the rock and roll museum in Cleveland. I don't believe I saw anything of theirs.. criminal particularly considering how american-centric it was. it was women in rock and roll... no kate bush mentioned either. I was totally put off.

  • @syzygywell I went there too, and I did see a few Devo things on the bottom floor in this one section.

  • I remember these guys back in the 80 when Nu wave was the shizo

  • 1:44 is from a PSA warning housewives not to wash clothes with gasoline. Seriously.

  • Ha! women were curvy back then, healthy! fine!

  • Not me!

  • Spotted clips from All Quiet on the Western Front, feeling pretty pro.

  • So sad that this song reminds me of Target every time I hear it.

  • So Awesome and relevant to the times in which we live!

  • Lady Gaga can't hold a candle to DEVO.

  • I discovered this song on VH1 Classics when I was about 12 - the only song by this band that I like. At any rate I ended up sending away for the plastic hair and the inverted pyramid hat but by that time - mid 90's - they were defunct at least their merchandise business unit - and I never got the aforementioned items in the mail - I'm still waiting for them.

At least they could send me my money back.

  • fuckin awsome band saw them live 2 or 3 years ago at byron bay.

  • It's a beautiful world indeed! Not so romantic place if the mankind continues destroying it bit by bit.

  • no, this one actually
