I personally heard the Faith Hill version and couldn't imagine that a soulfull singer like Joplin could have ever sung that song because that version is so clean cut and sanded down to an image of perfection, which is totally unfitting for a song like this that is meant to be raw, rough and most of all believable. I believe that Janis is actually feeling the song. While Faith's version is better in a technical standpoint, her's fails to create a deep connection with what she's singing.
