Nice video. Another way to find exotic names is to spell words backwards, scramble the sequence of letters or a mix. Apart from just names of islands or places, you can take foreign words and play around with them. For example, Yoda from Star Wars is inspired from the Sanskrit word yuddha - or warrior.
I like using an English to Latin translator. Finding an English word that is relevant to the character and translating it to Latin. That often results in a very unique sounding name :-)
lol the power of the law of attraction is strong in me, i can be where ever i wish to be as u can regardless of how cool my accent is :P don't be jealous get a plane or manifest a flying saucer to take u somewhere u want to be
Hello again Paul :) Was about 2 say i'm having a mavidbabae fest...then i remembered what mavidbabae means! Don't think my girlfreind would like it if i was around many beautiful women! A good tip on the names for characters thing, how are your novels doing?
yeah mavidbabae fests are not a good idea if u want to keep ur original g/f, my novels are looking after themselves i suppose is accurate, they will tell me when it is ready for completion, it's hard work if your uninspired, Yayo is still the aliens name though :P Yayo is a 22 foot tall Sakai Ledalarian Skylauncher, maybe u know what 'Sakai' means pete?
Sakai, umm sounds like the Japanese drink sake or saki? not sure of the spelling or maybe i'm way off? Yea being uninspired can be a real drag...i tend to let nature take it's course though rather than force things if i'm not really feeling in the mood to paint or what not. Yea Sarah is good, she was at work all day today, puttting on a travel show for her work so its been me & my PS3 this weekend...yea she is good feeling tired now tho...
do u mean Soju? thats a Korean drink, anyway, Sakai is a Japanese city also a Japaneses sir name. Sarah was putting on a travel show? what do you mean, sounds cool though, u just gave me an idea, I wonder what kind of demand there is for travel guides in southeast Asia for rich people, you know, kinda show people around and make sure everything runs smoothly, i guess i could do a yt vid advertising it
No the word is sake or saki not sure the exact spelling its a Japanese alcoholic beverage made from rice which you drink after it's been heated up.. i'm sure you know what i mean. Sarah works for Travelux (a travel agency here in England) she does marketing & admin & helps organize promoional travel shows for the company.
Yeah i should imagine there would be a good demand for travel guides in your neck of the woods, i'd defo consider using one if i went to certain places...
I can really relate to you because I am writing a fantasy/sci-fi kind of book and a lot of the names I made up. But it is part of the fun too isn't it? - Erin
ok, thats a good stretch of time Erin, seems you are destined to be an author if you have spent so long already, keep it up because a 5 book series is no picnic in the park to complete for the avergae mortal, my series used to be 4 plus books long but i narrowed it down to a solid 3 book series, but i'm still struggling to complete it, good luck!
Looking at names from the distant past is quite good. I got a few of my character names from a Celtic names database. Also the latin names for plants can often be suitable as well. One of my main characters is named after a plant that gives dangerously low blood preasure (which amused me because the character tends to send peoples blood preasure through the roof).
nice avenues to explore there, the latin names i have used in the past also, 'Galagadon senegalonsis'(spelt wrong i imagine) was Latin for bush baby or something like that, i used the first part slightly changed to Galagado, but yeah i like your searching method
thanks chrisc74, yeah don't forget to google them :O lol good luck too, also these methods work well if you need to name towns cities empires moutains rivers lakes etc

Hi. If you write fantasy or sci-fi, there's a nice little freeware tool on the net, that generates fantasy-words. Just google for "Kwegbalze" ;-)

Useful ideas for sci fi novels, but I write general fiction. Curious: why are you in such an exotic country with a Brummie accent? I'm jealous!
