dude, i dig your vids a lot, and most of this is dead on, but your line about eating 3500 extra calories (even if they're from clean sources) will give you an extra pound of muscle in a week is wrong. you'll just get fat. even if you're killing it in the gym and eating super clean, the most that the vast majority of guys can put on in a YEAR is 10 pounds.
What the fuck, you're not going too gain 1lb of muscle in a week from eating a 500 calorie surplus. You may gain 1lb of weight but the majority of that will be fat, the VAST majority of that. I am a personal trainer and hold a degree in Applied science for sport.
Oh my god..... please don't tell people they can gain a pound of muscle in a week. I'm surprised you said that. You'd be lucky to gain 1 pound of muscle in a month, if you're gaining 1 pound in a week then I guarantee it's mostly fat, not muscle!
Awsome vid Aaron! but I have a couple of questions:
1.Is there a safety limit to reducing my calorie intake? I mean, if I want to lose weight, and my flatline calorie intake is 2000, is it healthy to reduce that intake by 1000 calories?
2.if I want to both lose weight AND build muscle, how do I eat? and how do I combine the CLA and the Acetyl-L Carnitine that you recommended in another vid?
and 9 egg whites.. really? some1 help lol isnt it like too much of eggs? if ill eat 9 white eggs everyday for a month there are high chances that ill become one lol .. thank you
Thanks bro... so many bodybuilders and fitness coaches on youtube are posting their videos with advices and tips, programs, workouts, crazy diets, but they totaly forget that we are not bodybuilders or pro athletes... we just wanna look better, have more health and live well... peace
I've located DietOramy diet plan (you can find it on Google) - that eating plan is absolutely breathtaking, I 'm just not starving myself and I'm still losing weight - the secret is in distinct variants of food, far from in calorie consumption...
DID THIS GUY REALLY SAY YOU CAN GAIN 1 POUND OF MUSCLE IN 1 WEEK ?! LMFAO THIS GUY DOES NOT ! I REPEAT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT. BCUZ IF THAT WERE TRUE EVERYONE WOULD LOOK LIKE HULK.
Best way to look more muscular is to lose the fat layer; you don't necessarily have to gain a lot of muscle mass.
The trick is losing the fat WITHOUT losing muscle mass. Typically when a novice tries to lose fat by going into caloric deficit, he/she also loses a significant amount of muscle mass: NOT what you want to do!!
Wow! This is truly one of the best explanations I've heard regarding how to get cut and build muscle in under 10 minutes! Keep up the great work, Aaron, and I'm enjoying learning from your other good videos on your Youtube channel. Your video sums up perfectly the questions people ask me regarding how to get really cut and look fit.
Aaron, I'm doing this. I feel like crap about my body. I'm a 16 year old guy who weighs about 180, and I want to go down to 160. I just really hope I can stay motivated. Do you have any tips on that? Thanks!
@bossbower I'm 20 and the same weight as you. It's tough staying on target in the beginning but it gets easy.. 1st realize your goal, 2nd outline all necessary steps or a formula to reach that goal, 3rd stick to the formula regardless of anything until you achieve the goal. Just relax and take it ONE DAY AT A TIME. You choose to feel bad but you don't have to feel bad because feeling bad does not change your situation. Taking action (like your doing here) does. also POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS.
ok i need someone to explain this to me, so he said in order to gain 1 pound of muscle in a week u need to obtain an extra 3500 calories per day, or 3500 extra calories during the week period?
Hey there! Have you tried intellectus 424 diet (do a search on google)? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my work buddy lost a ton of weight with it.
hey aron I Got A QuestioN . do reply plzz! do u take all those multivitamin tablets or when u say u take multivits you mean you get them coz of your healthy diet? i am a bit confused coz i always thought taking those multivit pills has its side effects and a gud diet completes all the vitamin needs of the body .. and if you do take those tablets , kindly recommend us the one you take.. Carbs before bed?! what the hell, Aaron did you not know that carbs and gh(growth hormone) do not co exist. By this I mean if you still have carbs left in your body and are being used for energy (body uses energy 24/7) that gh will not be dispersed throughout the muscles?
Looks very efficient! I guess I can try this too in my routine. I always wanted to look lean while I'm losing weight. I read reviews that that the lean look is better than buff. Also I know this site offering different programs from losing weight to gaining lean muscles. What made me interested is it's for FREE! You can check my profile to view the site.
@SuperPotatoPower if you feel like you need weight then workout and eat more. you can also use some protein shakes/powders. this way you feel gain mass and muscles at the same time. it might feel slow but its good since the weight you gain is muscles and not fat
The video is very informative for having a excellent diet plan. It would really help you loose fats and gain lean muscle. I do have a link on a site that gives great stuff when it comes in lean muscle building. Their main target of their exercises is to help you achieve the looks you ever wanted the "Hollywood Look". Youtube won't allow me to post the link but you can check it on my profile.
@amotista nono.. i dont wan to be that kind of muscular body... all i wan is just to look proportional... nt necesssary need to have popping muscles here and there with poofing chest and 6 packs.. just decent and proportional and appropriate nice to look at will do...
aaron. i started this plan when you uploaded this video. and in the 2months since ive lost 17 lbs:-). Its true. burn an additional 500 calories a day and the weight will come off. from 184 to 167 lbs and i feel great!
That whey protein contains artificial flavoring, so your whole concept of eatting healthy goes to nothing. Getting a pizza and a normal coke is much more healthier than sucralose and acesulfame potassium.
If you want protein supplements, try finding one sweetened with stevia (it's a plant) or not sweetened at all.
On multivitamins: if you're getting 100% of the vitamins in it in your food, the vitamin isn't doing anything. In pharmacy programs they make note of the fact that most people are basically pissing away multivitamins (as that's where it ends up)
@Cureousful depends on the vitamin, A,D,E,K are fat soluble so they dont just get "pissed away." truth is the majority of people dont receive adequate nutrition in terms of vitamins & minerals. most people are deficient. those taking prescription medications dont realize that a lot of these drugs cause your body to be deficient in electrolytes, vitamins, & minerals. even a one-a-day isnt enough, they need to be ramped up with large doses to become normal again. trust me, im a pharmacist ;)
if your bulking up, overload carbs before bed time or after 6pm, oats/pasta etc..., because your body wont burn it off whilst sleeping therefore increasing your weight and muscle mass, but you need to work out other wise you'll just get fat
And I can see you're on a low fat diet. From what I red/ heard from others a low-carb diet is better for the body because it helps the hormonal enviorenment (testosterone and other hormones are made from saturated fat). And another advice would be to introduce some fish in your diet. Try out some pink salmon cans :). With that being said, thank you for this video! :D
hey, Aaron, you said you eat 9 egg whites in the morning. I know that a lot of "studies" and nutritionist recomand eating the whole egg because the yolk is rich in fat (which yes, is healthy despite having "cholesterol”), proteins, vitamins, minerals. The eg white is almost pure protein but it also contains avidin (anti vitamin H) and can be unhealthy if eaten in excess. Also, eating lots of grains can make you gluten intolerat.
fantastic video yet again Aaron, i can vouch for what you said about "muscle doesn't way twice as much, only the size difference" because more muscle can fit into the same amount of space where the fat used to be thus giving increased weight for same size.
a great tip for people out there that want to loose fat. i advise getting into a moderate exercise, go for a power walk. dont go for a run. and make your walk last about an hour. you will use you fat as your energy instead of carbs.
Fantastic video Aaron! I was searching the web for a good diet plan to get me going and i stumbled upon your video this morning...No need to search anymore!
So Aaron, if I use your example of a person whose BMR= 2000 cal. And he wants to gain muscle, he has to consume 2500 cals/day. BUT assuming that he has fat at the same time, he has to consume 500 cals less, which brings back his consumption to 2000 cals, right??? Iow, looks like there wouldn't be any muscle gains...can you explain it further, please? Is it really possible to gain 1 pound of muscle in a week???
@okaythisisnasty I'm stuck with the same problem... but to answer you're last question a pound of muscle a week is impossible! If you put on a pound of muscle a month you should be proud!
Speaking of a men's body I think you should talk about clothing that men can wear to look good according to their body type. I for example have trouble finding clothing because I'm 6'3 but my legs are short and my torso is long and I don't know what to wear to not look funny because of it could you please please please please please please talk about this topic. Thanks! =D
i notice youre takin DR WEIL DAILY MULTIVITAMINE,why did you chose that, are they pretty good? im takin animal pak,but i hate takin 11 pills a day,i would appreaciate if u could tell me about this weil multivitamin,do u recomend it/
CLA + Chromium + multivitamins = is the best way to get your metabolism used to exercising and processing food quicker.CLA and chromium are AMAZING combined , most multivitamins already have chromium so be careful and don't take more than needed.
The human body way of breaking down proteins or fats is different though... Our bodies are Only 25 percent efficient to what we eat .not all calories are Turned into energy(this is what we use to burn or gain weight) .this is still a good advice you're giving and motivational. That 25percent efficiency of the human body is why supplements are so big in the present because it let's us be more than 25percent efficient.your channel is great , I just happen to be a science freak lol
I personally think focusing on low calorie is not healthy for some people as they can get obsessive about it, also highly nutritious 'high calorie' foods like Avocado, Coconut Oil or Macadamia/Brazil Nuts get wrongfully cut out in a so called 'healthy low fat diet'. Your body NEEDS fat to burn fat. LOAD UP on Protein/Healthy Fats, DUMP the carbs apart from vegetables/low sugar fruit and beans/pulses. Go low-carb, I lost 36 pounds, I gained muscle/size whilst losing so there was no loose skin.
doesn't the whey protein that your taking have some creatine in it....almost all whey protein powder shakes have some creatine in their formula read the label ...other then that good vid..though most people dont build a pound of muscle a week
I like this video, but can you talk more about supplements? which ones are better and which brands are better?...cool keep up the good work I love your videos they are great...
I appreciate the diet information but many people, like myself, are going to have health problems with eating so many carbohydrates. I experience several health problems when I eat too much carbohydrates such as inconsistent energy levels, skin break outs, allergies, and GAS. I do much better on a high fat / high protein diet with plenty of greens and water. For more information checkout the many Paleo podcasts such as: Healthy Mind Fit Body or Latest in Paleo
That's basically what I was trying to say. A carb based diet just doesn't work for some people. I'm assuming you are a fast oxidizer since you do best on a high fat/ high protein diet. I, myself, am somewhere in the middle. If I eat too many carbs in a meal, I'll be hungry very soon afterwards, and will probably feel like crap. However, if I eat too much fat and protein and not enough carbs, then I will begin to feel tired very soon afterwards.
Aaron, no offense, but advising a whole grain based diet is wrong in every way as it will cause insulin to go up and make you store fat, much faster than if you were to eat a high fat meal. It's also what the standard american diet is, which anyone can see is a total crock. Also, eating a diet too low in fat will result in vitamin and mineral definicies, as well as even depression and hormonal issues. That aside, everybody is different, and if what you are doing works for you, then keep it up!
@jreily88 Are you sure you know what you're talking about? Whole grain diet is one of the healthiest ways you can go. Instead you're suggesting a HIGH fat meal as an alternative?? This is most definitely NOT the typical american diet. Americans typically eat a lot of simple sugar which spikes a huge insulin release, which leads to fat storage. Insulin, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. It is necessary to transport glucose in certain cells which we need for energy.
Yes, I know exactly what I'm talking about. Grains are one of the worst ways to get your carbs. In fact, depending on the brand, whole grain bread has a higher glycemic index than a can of soda. The best way to get your carbs are from root veggies, such as carrots, squash, etc. Also, a high fat diet, as in high SATURATED fat diet is very healthy, and will not cause heart disease, that is a myth. There have been tons of studies done to prove this.
Now, a carb based diet does indeed work for some people, but only slow oxidizers or people with primarily type 1 or endurance muscle fibers, as they don't burn through the carbs as fast and can keep a constant energy levels, whereas someone like a bodybuilder would need to eat a lot of fat and protein, because fat, along with cholesterol, help to increase testosterone.
Also, the fact that the standard american diet is mostly based on carbs, is why it is so bad. Yes, we need them, but nowhere near the amount we are told. The normal amount of blood sugar in your body should be about 1 teaspoon just so you know. Carbs have very little to do with energy in your cells. ATP is the body's primary energy source and without a doubt, fat is the best source for that. There are 36 ATP molecules for every molecule of carbs, and 146 ATP for fat.
Yes, you are exactly right that americans typically eat a lot of simple or refined sugars such as sodas, candies, or boxed foods. It's just that if you incorporate more fat in the diet, first off, you won't be hungry 2 hours later, and also, it will help to regulate insulin production and in fact, eating a lot of fat or cholesterol in the diet, will promote the liver to produce LESS cholesterol, not more, if your liver is functioning properly.
@jreily88 I think while some things you have mentioned are valid, I don't believe a high fat, low carb diet is practical. For someone who wants to lose weight, taking in more fat translates to taking in a lot more calories. Also, from personal experience, carbs (more specifically whole grains which are have a high fiber content) are more effective in curbing your appetite. And I agree with veggies as an excellent source
Okay, yes if your primary goal is to lose weight, and lose it quickly, then a low fat diet is best, and if your primary goal is to build muscle, then you need to eat more fat and protein. Keep in mind that if you stick with the low fat approach for a long time, you will experience hormone issues. This is why most vegetarians are so distraught from society. In fact, I have never in my life, seen a healthy looking vegetarian/vegan. They're all pale looking with thinning hair.
Yeah, he is pretty jacked, but he also works out like a beast as well. He also uses whey protein, and I think that's why most vegetarians look so unhealthy is because they get their protein mostly from soy which is very bad for you, and I urge you to do the research on that. Also, the majority of vegetarians don't work out very hard, so that's why a lot of them are so frail. Scooby is doing great, although I just don't agree with some of his nutrition methods.
Also, scooby is not a vegetarian, he is a pseudo-vegetarian which basically means he eats primarily fruits and vegetables, but also, milk, eggs, seafood, and even chicken, but no red meat.
Well, since I am trying to gain weight, my diet is a lot different. I also try to keep things more balanced because I don't do well when I eat a lot of carbs and very little fat, or when I eat a lot of fat, but with very little carbs. For example, my breakfast would sometimes consist of a 3 egg omelette, with tons of vegetables, and either a glass of water or whole milk. If I'm running short on time, I will make me a protein shake.
I think you should have emphasized one of the essential macronutrients to gaining muscle: PROTEIN intake. 1gm of Protein/ 1 lb of lean body mass per day. Overall, though, another excellent video, Aaron.
Aaron. I loved this video. I love working out and going to the gym.
I have one issue though, I can't seem to find a protein powder that I like.
I'm 6'2, 210lbs. Trying to get enough protein in my body throughout the day is tough for my size especially when I can't find a protein powder that I like and that doesn't have a lot of fat in it. Can you maybe give out a few suggestions that you either use or would reccomend? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
It takes about 5 hours to digest a meal. When you take in more food before that time the previous meal putrefies in your gastric system. You will become toxic and set yourself up for colon cancer. Although frequent meals may have some short term benefits, it's not good advice for the long term.
Aaron, so it takes 500 cals a day to gain one pound of muscle for a week, but by cutting out 500 a day does your body not lose one pound of muscle not fat as your body looks for muscle to burn when hungry before fat?? Great vid had to watch few times :)
Great video Aaron - BUT - your muscle to fat weight reference is silly. 1 lb of muscle = 1 lb of fat is like saying 1 lb of feathers = 1 lb of lead. When people compare the two and say that muscle is heavier, they are likely referring to equal volumes of each, in which case muscle is indeed heavier. Otherwise, I was very happy to see your common sense approach to dieting.
@seanyboy1436 sure you can, have a diet to maintain your body weight and exercise. Exemple: my BMR is 1900cal + my daily workouts (400cal) =2300cal, so i eat 2300cal everyday and i will start to loose fat and gain muscle, but since the most important factor of gaining muscle is the protein intake you can also have a slight caloric deficit like 200-300cal and still gain muscle. The best way would be to slowly loose fat while gaining muscle but that would depend on your current goals and bodyfat.
@seanyboy1436 it's impossible to lose body fat and gain muscle at the same rate you would, by focusing on one at the time, but you CAN do both, just slower and much harder.
@olympiakaras4life I think you got it mixed up. If your BMR is 1775, that means you need to reduce it by 500 kcal/day to lose 1lb in one week. That means, assuming you're burning 350 kcal of cardio per day, then you also only need to eat 150 kcal less per day. 350 + 150 = 500. 1775 - 500 = 1275 kcal per day. This is the golden number you have to reach (cardio included) in order to lose 1 lb in one week.
ummmmm....aaron. how do i know which meat to buy and most importantly how do i cook it? im not the greatest cook in the world lol let alone i use tongs to flip tortillas from the stove lol

I thought the max protein your body could handle was around 25 grams per hour , more then that and its just getting passed and not absorbed .

On multivitamins: if you're getting 100% of the vitamins in it in your food, the vitamin isn't doing anything. In pharmacy programs they make note of the fact that most people are basically pissing away multivitamins (as that's where it ends up)
Cureousful 9 months ago

94andrey94 9 months ago
Hi Aaron, any replacement suggestion for a vegetarian who can't eat lean protein in your diet???
san20dalal 9 months ago
fantastic video yet again Aaron, i can vouch for what you said about "muscle doesn't way twice as much, only the size difference" because more muscle can fit into the same amount of space where the fat used to be thus giving increased weight for same size.
a great tip for people out there that want to loose fat. i advise getting into a moderate exercise, go for a power walk. dont go for a run. and make your walk last about an hour. you will use you fat as your energy instead of carbs.

@nguyentony48 Of course cardio will help. Lifting weights will also help too because more muscle will increase your metabolic rate.

For more information checkout the many Paleo podcasts such as: Healthy Mind Fit Body or Latest in Paleo
dmp1ce 10 months ago
@dmp1ce

That aside, everybody is different, and if what you are doing works for you, then keep it up!
jreily88 10 months ago
@jreily88 Are you sure you know what you're talking about? Whole grain diet is one of the healthiest ways you can go. Instead you're suggesting a HIGH fat meal as an alternative?? This is most definitely NOT the typical american diet. Americans typically eat a lot of simple sugar which spikes a huge insulin release, which leads to fat storage. Insulin, in and of itself, is not a bad thing. It is necessary to transport glucose in certain cells which we need for energy.
EntertainMe1983 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
There have been tons of studies done to prove this.
jreily88 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
Now, a carb based diet does indeed work for some people, but only slow oxidizers or people with primarily type 1 or endurance muscle fibers, as they don't burn through the carbs as fast and can keep a constant energy levels, whereas someone like a bodybuilder would need to eat a lot of fat and protein, because fat, along with cholesterol, help to increase testosterone.
jreily88 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
There are 36 ATP molecules for every molecule of carbs, and 146 ATP for fat.
jreily88 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
Yes, you are exactly right that americans typically eat a lot of simple or refined sugars such as sodas, candies, or boxed foods. It's just that if you incorporate more fat in the diet, first off, you won't be hungry 2 hours later, and also, it will help to regulate insulin production and in fact, eating a lot of fat or cholesterol in the diet, will promote the liver to produce LESS cholesterol, not more, if your liver is functioning properly.
jreily88 10 months ago
@jreily88 I think while some things you have mentioned are valid, I don't believe a high fat, low carb diet is practical. For someone who wants to lose weight, taking in more fat translates to taking in a lot more calories. Also, from personal experience, carbs (more specifically whole grains which are have a high fiber content) are more effective in curbing your appetite. And I agree with veggies as an excellent source
EntertainMe1983 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
Yes, fiber is beneficial, but not everyone needs as much as some others.
jreily88 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
They're all pale looking with thinning hair.
jreily88 10 months ago
@jreily88 You should check out scooby1961, here on youtube. He's a vegeterian, 49 years old, and is built like a machine.
EntertainMe1983 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
Scooby is doing great, although I just don't agree with some of his nutrition methods.
jreily88 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
Also, scooby is not a vegetarian, he is a pseudo-vegetarian which basically means he eats primarily fruits and vegetables, but also, milk, eggs, seafood, and even chicken, but no red meat.
jreily88 10 months ago
@jreily88 Yes, I just realized he mentioned he was a pseudo-vegeterian. I'm just curious, what are your meals like in a day?
EntertainMe1983 10 months ago
@EntertainMe1983
If I'm running short on time, I will make me a protein shake.
jreily88 10 months ago
I think you should have emphasized one of the essential macronutrients to gaining muscle: PROTEIN intake. 1gm of Protein/ 1 lb of lean body mass per day. Overall, though, another excellent video, Aaron.
EntertainMe1983 10 months ago
Thanks.

can you make a video about those popular colon cleanse products, and the benefits of liquid chlorophyll.
jluis408 10 months ago
It takes about 5 hours to digest a meal. When you take in more food before that time the previous meal putrefies in your gastric system. You will become toxic and set yourself up for colon cancer. Although frequent meals may have some short term benefits, it's not good advice for the long term.
Juzziwuz 10 months ago
Aaron, so it takes 500 cals a day to gain one pound of muscle for a week, but by cutting out 500 a day does your body not lose one pound of muscle not fat as your body looks for muscle to burn when hungry before fat?? Great vid had to watch few times :)
jfarci 10 months ago
Great video Aaron - BUT - your muscle to fat weight reference is silly. 1 lb of muscle = 1 lb of fat is like saying 1 lb of feathers = 1 lb of lead. When people compare the two and say that muscle is heavier, they are likely referring to equal volumes of each, in which case muscle is indeed heavier. Otherwise, I was very happy to see your common sense approach to dieting.

@seanyboy1436 yepp, watch scooby1961 or sixpackshortcuts
TheAsianWeirdo 10 months ago
@seanyboy1436 sure you can, have a diet to maintain your body weight and exercise. Exemple: my BMR is 1900cal + my daily workouts (400cal) =2300cal, so i eat 2300cal everyday and i will start to loose fat and gain muscle, but since the most important factor of gaining muscle is the protein intake you can also have a slight caloric deficit like 200-300cal and still gain muscle. The best way would be to slowly loose fat while gaining muscle but that would depend on your current goals and bodyfat.

-Ok my BMR is 1775.
-I through some healthy food together for one day and I got 2000 cals/per day
-Ill exercise 6 days a week burning on average say 350-400 cals/per day because I'm not about to do cardio every day...
-So thats 2000-1775= 225 so 225 + 350 = 575...So if I do this every day? By the end of the week I should lose a litle bit over 1lb
olympiakaras4life 10 months ago
@olympiakaras4life I think you got it mixed up. If your BMR is 1775, that means you need to reduce it by 500 kcal/day to lose 1lb in one week. That means, assuming you're burning 350 kcal of cardio per day, then you also only need to eat 150 kcal less per day. 350 + 150 = 500. 1775 - 500 = 1275 kcal per day. This is the golden number you have to reach (cardio included) in order to lose 1 lb in one week.
