For Today is amazing. An amazing band with great talent, but also a group of amazing Christians. I have seen a video on YouTube of Mattie Montgomery (vocalist) sharing his testimony of how he was addicted to pornography but changed his life. And, though I haven't seen them live, a friend of mine has and said they stopped the concert for a few minutes just to share the gospel. If that isn't Christian, I don't know what is.

People seem to forget that music is also art, if metal is aggressive at times is that a problem? I mean from someone that also listens to things like classical music that can also be aggressive at times. And theatre is quite often violent, anyone seen a play of the crucifixion of Christ, extremely violent. So by that logic we should avoid the crucifixion, because like SOME metal it is violent, which goes against everything Christianity stands for.

@Terminal331 Sleeping Giant is not metal... Listen to black metal, Death metal, Power metal, Doom etc. each have an atmosphere about this. Black metal is a very dark and war oriented style of metal. Death metal is brutal with its lyrics and sound. Doom metal is also a very bleak and dark oriented style. The atmosphere and music of the various styles match the emotion put into the lyrics.

I don't see how people can hate more brutal genres of Christian music like Christian metal. Most "Christian" music is expected to be pretty. Was Jesus' crucifixion portrayed a pretty sight??? Very good point, I completely agree with this. I argue with my teachers about this all the time, and their main defense is that the base of rock/metal/screamo music is rebellion and "devil worship" and that you cant take something that started for that and make it worship God. How would you come back at that?

Anything to kiss some invisible egomaniacs ass, huh? Keep religion out of metal and in church, where it belongs. A type of worship that's clearly in a genre created to attack religion. The only reason there are so many christians taking non-christian things is it's an easy way to gather more followers. This is why they stole the concepts now used for xmas.
One caution about this whole topic is to be careful what you are really worshiping. Sometimes kids get caught up with the front figure, such as Mattie in this videos case. Find truth for yourself. Listen to music for worship, or listen to music to listen to it, but make your own opinions on things and not let influential bands do it for you.
@reidcore Your problem with this is.. if you can't be influential then what's the point of evangelizing? Evangelism is about sharing your past experiences, and showing how God has worked in your life. It influences other people to look up the bible and read it and what not to learn about it. And of course I agree with the whole worshiping the music.
@zer0mavrick i understand what you mean. i personally am in a band that plays in the south east with bands like As Hell Retreats and Gideon, and our lyrics are Evengelitic (not even a word?). but we honestly try to evangelize by simply being the light in a dark place. just by our actions we are setting ourselves apart. from personal experience, not many kids want to go to a show to be preached at. if that's what a band feels they should do, they should do it. but not for my band.

However, while you're trying to communicate a message asking other Christians to keep their minds open and not to be judgmental, keep in mind that you should also respect their taste in music. A person may or may not like a "sound" to different songs and music genres without being judgmental.
Sometimes it just comes down to a matter of taste.

I personally don't like most "metal" or "heavy metal" or "industrial" or "thrash" etc... subgenres... I like some individual songs but the general sound doesn't typically appeal to me. But, you won't hear me calling it "devil's music". And, I'm certainly not unique in that position.
You can listen to any Christian genre, AS LONG AS you pay attention to the lyrics!

I lost a lot of respect for that band since their old vocalist went to escape the fate, and the new vocalist one cusses. When i do listening to them. I listen to the songs that don't have all the cussing and crap in it. but that's just me.

@Dhaelgraeve yeah, Mozart did not love God, his actions and his life don't reflect being a born again Christian, yet many people would consider his music more "holy." I love renaissance polyphony, and it sounds "angelic" to me, but one of my favorite composers was a mass murderer. Also, Bach, who is considered one of the most God-fearing composers to ever live, used the organ and strings in his worship. Both had been considered "satanic" earlier on. This is not new.

For Today is amazing. An amazing band with great talent, but also a group of amazing Christians. I have seen a video on YouTube of Mattie Montgomery (vocalist) sharing his testimony of how he was addicted to pornography but changed his life. And, though I haven't seen them live, a friend of mine has and said they stopped the concert for a few minutes just to share the gospel. If that isn't Christian, I don't know what is.

People seem to forget that music is also art, if metal is aggressive at times is that a problem? I mean from someone that also listens to things like classical music that can also be aggressive at times. And theatre is quite often violent, anyone seen a play of the crucifixion of Christ, extremely violent. So by that logic we should avoid the crucifixion, because like SOME metal it is violent, which goes against everything Christianity stands for.

@Terminal331 Sleeping Giant is not metal... Listen to black metal, Death metal, Power metal, Doom etc. each have an atmosphere about this. Black metal is a very dark and war oriented style of metal. Death metal is brutal with its lyrics and sound. Doom metal is also a very bleak and dark oriented style. The atmosphere and music of the various styles match the emotion put into the lyrics.

I don't see how people can hate more brutal genres of Christian music like Christian metal. Most "Christian" music is expected to be pretty. Was Jesus' crucifixion portrayed a pretty sight??? No. . the bible is filled with violence and brutality. I argue with my teachers about this all the time, and their main defense is that the base of rock/metal/screamo music is rebellion and "devil worship" and that you cant take something that started for that and make it worship God. One caution about this whole topic is to be careful what you are really worshiping. Sometimes kids get caught up with the front figure, such as Mattie in this videos case. Find truth for yourself. Listen to music for worship, or listen to music to listen to it, but make your own opinions on things and not let influential bands do it for you.

Evangelism is about sharing your past experiences, and showing how God has worked in your life. It influences other people to look up the bible and read it and what not to learn about it. @zer0mavrick i understand what you mean. i personally am in a band that plays in the south east with bands like As Hell Retreats and Gideon, and our lyrics are Evengelitic (not even a word?). but we honestly try to evangelize by simply being the light in a dark place. just by our actions we are setting ourselves apart. from personal experience, not many kids want to go to a show to be preached at. if that's what a band feels they should do, they should do it. but not for my band.

There's nothing "wrong" with any genre of music. Your vid - Excellent way of putting things into perspective.
However, while you're trying to communicate a message asking other Christians to keep their minds open and not to be judgmental, keep in mind that you should also respect their taste in music. A person may or may not like a "sound" to different songs and music genres without being judgmental.
Sometimes it just comes down to a matter of taste.

You can listen to any Christian genre, AS LONG AS you pay attention to the lyrics!
If you listen to metal or hardcore Christian music (The Devil Wears Prada FTW :D) but you don't pay attention to what matters (the lyrics), then it is the same as listening to non-Christian metal.
God wants us to enjoy our lives, but not at the expense of anybody else, in any way shape or form...

@MetalSworrd I'm not a big fan of bands that are like that. Blessthefall is a good example. I lost a lot of respect for that band since their old vocalist went to escape the fate, and the new vocalist one cusses. When i do listening to them. I listen to the songs that don't have all the cussing and crap in it. but that's just me.

Research and actually reading lyrics is key before passing judgement, and I know most of these people don't do any research at all. But, it's just ignorance and most of the people doing the anti christian metal bands have good intentions I would say.

I'm beginning to wonder if pomc is actually a Satanist masquerading as a Christian, and intentionally acting in such a manner so as to turn people away from Christianity...it was a common tactic that I used myself when I was a Satanist, which obviously was before I became a Christian.
Also, if Metal is innately Satanic, why was it I preferred Classical Music when I was a Satanist and only started to like Metal after I became a Christian?

@Dhaelgraeve yeah, Mozart did not love God, his actions and his life don't reflect being a born again Christian, yet many people would consider his music more "holy." I love renaissance polyphony, and it sounds "angelic" to me, but one of my favorite composers was a mass murderer. Also, Bach, who is considered one of the most God-fearing composers to ever live, used the organ and strings in his worship. Both had been considered "satanic" earlier on. This is not new.

@lightrevealsdarkness, it was not christian metal that got you into drugs. christian metal is against that, and id like to hear of a legit christian band that tells people that drugs are ok. obviously, weather it be from going to a show where there was drugs, or something els, it was not christian metal.

christian metal is a tool of satan to drive you away from GOD. i used to love christian metal my brother was friends with the band gwen stacy.i have been to alot of shows also but my expericence is that christian metal led me to use drugs and hate GOD and the thing that really got me was haste the days guitar left the band and said there was no GOD so if this music is of GOD where are the good fruits.
