  • Absolutely the most incredible tool ever introduced to gmod. Besides welding of course. I say the final version of this should be included in gmod by default. Because anything and everything you can make in the game can only be improved by having its own localized gravity. Elevators, space ships, cars no longer needing everyone (only the driver) in a shitty chair or that lets you barely see anything, huge walking mechs, planes and loads more. No more spazzing out, no more deaths by physics, etc.

  • THIS IS BRILLIANT! I have the ultimate question though, what happens when you apply it to a sphere? Can you walk completely around it? Does this mean that you can build planets with local gravity in spacebuild, instead of being confined to platforms?

  • @HzrdFilms From what I know, you cant use it on actual spheres, but I do have an idea. You could possibly create small flat surfaces(to the shape of a sphere) all with the gravity full. In theory that should work. But I do hope that he somehow makes it so you can actually use it on Sphere props and what-not. :D

  • @NeonKizen once the physgun beam can be drawn, I'm going to add a spherical planet entity that uses the same kind of technique. Difference is that the physgun beam will actually have to bend around the planet as if affected by gravity-- there is no way around this short of making every interaction illusional by giving every player and prop their own version of the hull, which would be very slow.

  • @David200k It's called Garry's Mod, Google it. It's a modification of a video game called "Half-Life 2" and it is used to pose ragdolls, make entities with LUA, ect. It's quite fun. And only for 9.99$ it is worth it. I have got about 500 hours of playtime for that measly 10$.

    So if you can find an empty space map, skybox and all, with only the sun, you can actually create prop-based, rotating worlds, with day/night transitions! Add in the mod the lets you turn an object into water, and you got yourself a whole new ecosystem! :D

  • It would be wonderful if this featured things like outside force being applied if you accelerate too fast, ie you could normally stand on top of a car, but if the car takes off you wouldn't stay standing on it.

  • this is planned, actually :)

    it'll take the form of an inertial dampener slider, where 0% will apply the inverse of all exterior acceleration to the props inside, and 100% will behave as it does now. There will also be a threshold allowing you to set the maximum force required for the inertia to be applied.

  • @rodlon Nope, it couldn't be used for spherical planets, unless you spam individual props, similar to how vertices form a circle.

  • Is it possible to make it feel acceleration? Like when the ship is moving at the same velocity you'll move at that rate but when it speeds up or slows down it'll affect you.

  • @toddnollan Two can exist, but if you put hull A inside hull B, hull A will not function properly and will render your view somewhere else. This will be fixed eventually so that you can have nested hulls.

  • @SuperLlama53 Even if you have already solved this, give the tool a priority setting so players can choose which hull will affect a player if they are inside more than one. For props with the same priority, just pick the one with smaller volume.

  • @chinoto1 actually nesting works properly now as of the beta release, except if you go too deep you teleport sometimes. Works fine with hull A being inside of hull B, though.

  • Love it. How does it know/how do you know yourself, what parts it has included in the system? Do you apply it to each one individually? How does it work?

  • @D3ltra It's constraint-based-- so you just weld some props together and shoot it. It currently only works with prop_physics though.

  • @SuperLlama53 Very nice. So what is defined as the region it operates on, then? The overall bounding box of the props in the constraintsystem?

  • @D3ltra It's defined as any location having a floor and at least one non-floor (i.e. wall, ceiling). It reuses values and stores them in a 3D grid, so it doesn't have to do 6 traces every second for every object. Works pretty well, a lot better than the old way, which was just to trace away from the center of the "ship" and see if it hit a wall-- that didn't work very well especially for curved hallways and things.
