  • Noooooooo!!!!! It cuts out RIGHT BEFORE the killer chorus! Please somebody find the complete take of this sensational live footage of B Movie and POST IT!

  • 2 people who watched this video rather want to be the stars in an Oscar winner.

  • going bed on this, legend....

  • Saw him in 1983 in a small comedy club - he had an open night between two bigger venues. It was interesting being the only white table in the club.

  • saw this guy when I was 18 in Liverpool England, Great memories,

  • Great guy, managed to make fun of America as a heroin addict...! Oh yeah, let's make some excuses for his bad behavior you goobers.

  • is not complete... the video

  • Ronald Reagan made America great again after the disasters of the Carter era, he was NO DOUBT a great President.

  • To my mind, he was anything but a manipulator, he was simply a great President.

  • @Michele640

Ronald Reagan made ignorance cool in America, he was not a Great President

  • Why wait til 1984, you can panic now and avoid the rush!!

  • Fucking amazing

  • Can you please write English? Anyway, I repeat that Ronald Reagan was the greatest President in U.S. history in my opinion, and this song (?) is a disgrace.

  • @Michele640 Reagan was a master of propaganda, he convinced the average joe he was for him, while he fucked him straight in the ass, a master manipulator..

  • This song is simply scandalous. Ronald Reagan was the best President in U.S. history. Up with America, up with President Reagan! Gil Scott Heron, shame on you, go back into the sewer!

  • @Michele640 De mortuis, nihil nisi bonum.

  • @Michele640

So, freedom speech for everybody, except for the ones you disagree with?

  • in 1981 Gil was talkin about Americas bullshit

  • @3azabb and in 2011 it's ALL still true! Some of the names and faces have changed but the bullshit is still the same.

  • Too good briliant I remember when the Bottle came out , we were all listening to punk that blew every one away one of the best voices there is and what great tracks havent dated a bit, does it all with out doing much

  • Hard copy of the state of the nation at that time - but still the same ghost in the mashine - Listen to Gil - he knew it all before - check out greece, portugal, ireland, maybe spain, even more so the US - banking makes the world go nuts.

  • Fucking great. What a genius !!

  • sadly most music nowadays seems to be a product of reagan and thatcher. completely unpoliticised, instead about money, narcissism and selfish desires. this is most prevalant in the very genre gil influenced: hip hop and rap. how sad.

  • @KingKonway92

Yes, very sad. How good Gil and some other musicians started this and what absolute garbage it is nowadays.

  • cool, thanks

  • Liked

  • Sadly his sentiments are still as relevant today as 30 years ago :(

  • Ronald "Rotgut" Reagan aka 666 aka The Ultimate Evil got zero votes; votes go "Up in Smoke" and then are "Lost in Space."

  • will you guys stop the chapter and verse stuff you aint got to the c yet...

  • Rest in peace, Gil...

  • Rest in peace, Gil...

  • This was one of his best train of thoughts. Much better than anything else. But not as smooth as Winter in America.

We will all miss him. He was a huge contribution to humanity.

  • The first rapper I ever heard!

  • THANK YOU for posting this! Brother Gil lives in my heart.

  • RIP Gil Scott Heron. Gone too soon.

  • R.I.P. you were a true original, you never backed down

  • yesssssssssss

  • @Noevaw Unfortunately, the "power" behind Reagan was the Military-Industrial complex, the greedy junk-bond traders and the fascist Christian fanatics who all wanted to exert their evil control over the very (ignorant) "great silent majority" of middle America--the very people who voted him into office, twice! Go figure. Thanks to this "force," we had covert Latin-American & African wars, the beginning of the trend of enormous income disparity, & the seeds of Taliban/AlQaeda in Afganistan

  • Rest in Peace. Our folks must pay attention. Nothing has changed. Mr. Scott-Heron was a visionary.

  • Brother Gil, may you rest in peace. With much love, from all the old school brothers from Harbor City, CA.

  • 2 people are total cocks! R.I.P. Mr. Heron! The revolution will not be televised!

  • A great American poet who will be remembered (thanks to the eulogizing of the media) as just another self-destructive dope-addicted black man. How tragic for us! Edgar Allen Poe, Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neill, Ernest Hemingway, Norman Mailer, etc, are all remembered for the legacy of greatest they added to America's literary treasures. Each might well have been described by their addictions, but were not. They are each allowed their complexity. So sad!

  • @brsoskin We see him for what he was, warts and all, a visionary.

  • what does he mean with rea-gun ????

  • @CapitanoGUC Ronald Regan

  • In Gil Scott Heron we've lost a strong voice for peace, equality, and social justice in America-Peace Brother!

  • Always Keepin' Real....! RIP

  • @chillbone63 He will be missed

  • For 30 years I have been thankful to Gil Scott Heron for his lyrics that absolutely pegged the Retrograde Right in this country:

"Nostalgia -- that's what we want

    The good ol' days ...

[Back] to a time when movies were in black and white

    And so was everything else."

    R.I.P.

  • RIP Gil Scott-Heron. You will be missed.... :(

  • This song is as relevant today as it was back then.

  • @bf0rpd Yes

  • word

  • RIP GS-H U WILL BE MISSED

  • A Crying Shame, Another Great Has To Make Their Transition

All the best to you Gil as you have made your transition to join the ancestors in the eternal spiritual realm.

And to your family & love ones, may your spirit continue to provide them with guidance & protection.

    FOREVER, GIL!!!!

  • One of the most clever and incisive commentary about the Reagan era. Thank you Bro Gil for enriching our lives. Peace, I wish you peace, now that you're back in Grandma's hands.

  • The Rockefeller family own controlling interest in the financial, insurance and real estate sectors of the economy, namely Citibank and JP Morgan Chase as well as Standard Oil (Exxon, Standard Oil of Ohio, etc) Google under "Rockefeller Family"

  • @DAngelo136 Of course, I know who the Rockefellers are and what they control, I just didn't know what G-S.H. specifically meant by "transportation furnished by the David Rockefeller remote control corporation." Any ideas?

  • @SEMVienna He means they were among the corporate interests supporting Reagan hoping to control him like someone would control the channels on a television using a remote control.

  • @3kingkool I kind of figured that it was meant so generally. But I started to look deeper and found out about the President's Commission on Executive Exchange (actually started by Carter) with which Reagan and Rockefeller laid the foundations of the revolving door of corporate influence in the government as well as the dissemination of insider government info to the private sector. Check it out! The Commission ended with Papa Bush, under curious corrupt circumstances.

  • Anybody know anything about the "David Rockefeller Remote Control Corporation" reference @ 7:49 ? Brilliant: "Why wait 'til 1984, when you can panic now and avoid the rush?"

  • Loved this man -- he taught me so much.

  • Gil, I will miss THEE, thanx for lettin ME hit with U BACK THEN!!

  • RIP the great Gil Scott-Heron.

  • A brilliant man, a brilliant mind...his relevance for today cannot be denied...third world status ever looming...

  • there will be none like you

  • R.I.P. Gil Scott-Heron. A great poet.

  • Before RAP sunk to the celebration of gutterhood rage & revenge of brothers killing brothers, Gil Scott Heron looked beyond and saw the real ENEMY of the people. RIP, poet and artist and visionary, Mr Gil Scott Heron.

  • rip .

  • GIL SCOTT HERON DIED IN MAY 2011 R.I.P.

  • RIP you will never be forgotten. Thank you for your inspiration, music and honesty

  • RIP

  • RIP GSH. Rest in peace.

    Thank you for the music!

  • RIP GSH

  • this is one of gil's best - very relevant to current politics and as the comment above says, "we haven't learned a damn thing"

    rest in peace my brother...

  • @planetjeffy no doubt. this is definitely what is going on today

  • RIP Gil Scott Heron, a true inspirational lyricist and poet

  • rip

  • RIP

  • Ray-gun lol

  • Mr Heron is too cool.

  • The prophet tells the truth.

  • Right on the money. Still right on the money.

  • "The monkey was a'ight. The monkey was cool." Heron's rants wouldn't be half as entertaining without the sharp jokes for sure, but silly ad-libs like this are what make him a genius.

  • majoirty - ha ha for Britain, wish I'd seen him live on this tour, sounds fantastic

  • REAL RAP,Talking about something !!!!instead of B.S Lil G's s Listen you may learn something!!!

  • "common sense is at an all-time low"... and this was almost 30 years ago... it's a sad state of affairs that somehow became even sadder......

  • The best damned song about who we are and where we're going of all time. Fantastic!

  • Saw him at a small club (seating of about 100) in 83. He was between shows in Denver and somewhere else. It was Jerry Valdez' Comedy Club in Colorado Springs. The first thing I remember is that it was a really good show. The second thing, is that it was a very uncomfy place for three white people to be.

    I'd do it again.

  • That damn Alembic.

  • hes a legend dosnt get mention as much as he should talk more sense than anyone ive ever heard simple truth

  • An omniscient and indelible voice in music and life...

  • ....got to dance

  • this guy is so cool

  • genius

  • genius

  • Play this side by side with Patti Smith's Piss factory, comrades

  • He'll be missed. I hope his legacy lives on for a very long time.

  • DEEP! LOVE IT!

  • more than 30 years ago i heared this song for the first time in a club and absolutely went CRAAAZYYY about that pumping groove, perfect for dancing.much later i realized what he was telling (germans don't listen to english lyrics very often) * ;-)*that was way back when hiphop was cool and important.

  • Thes words are so powerful

  • supercool performance from black wax dvd 1982...10 beans on amazon folks

  • Gil Scott Heron is one of the grandfathers of hip hop / rap. He is an activist musician most wise from the 70s and 80s. Always a revolutionary radical with a true humanist world view. I heard his voice in the 80s, along with Malcolm X and the Last Poets and it raised my consciousness about the need and our ability to change the world. I was moved by his song to Jose Campos Torres, a Chicano killed by police in Houston in 1977 and they were fined $2 for violating his civil rights

  • How cooool is this guy!

  • @maiwandwal so cool. dropping some serious knowledge, but still has a twinkle in his eye! I discovered this on napster way back in the day, but to see him deliver it...wow. That's one cool cat.

  • @t3rr3nc388 "...napster way back in the day..."

That would be the Napster founded in 1999/2000? Way back... Hilarious.

  • @ArchangelBoab dafuck is your point?? Get a life, troll.

  • This is the kind of speech we need to hear more often nowadays. And by the way, cool music too.

  • Nostalgia, that's what we want, the good old days when we gave'em hell. When the buck stopped somewhere and you could still buy something with it. To a time when movies were in black and white and so was everything else....

  • Holy shit this video needs more views

  • Hell Yeah!

Gil Scot Heron for President !

  • He's got my vote!

  • @jharmon05 and mine 8)) xx

  • @Dxpro007 HELL YEAH! I AGREE.

  • HELL YEAH! I AGREE.

  • @Dxpro007 Yeah he get my white vote

  • In a word " GREAT !!!!!!! "

  • Nobody has learned a damned thing since this song.

  • @instantdogma: men do not learn very much from the lessons of history, and that, is the most important lesson of history.

  • @instantdogma damn right just the same old shite with different arseholes......... GSH was real damn real

  • You ain't seen nothin' yet, till you have heard The Last Poets. We had some great social justice minstrels back in my day!

  • This work is very important, am sorry that a lot of young people are still a sleep on Brother Gil Scott for he has a very important place in African-American music and art

  • @sekouche I agree with you 100%. There is whole generation of young people who are not politically informed or interested in the current or future state of our affairs.

  • the same shit is happening now with 2010 less than a week away

  • Yeah, the same shit has been happening since right around the American Civil War and we love it so fucking much we take the show on the road to Iraq or to Afghanistan or to Yemen or Iran, anywhere we can do all over a-fuckingen.
