All the power now is in the hands of the Corpracrat party. Obama is not change. This is a third Bush term. Nothing will change untill we "throw away our vote" en masse and elect a third party that reresents the people. Not the corporations and globalists that donate to the Republicrats.

Things like the Bay of Pigs are things that could not have been stopped by an opposition congress.

Opposition is created by separation of powers, not partisanship. Partisanship is an expression, as Bartlett says, of real disagreements, and should not fade away. But a Republican minority of 40 or more senators WILL be heard.
