I can't believe people are still debating this, and I don't care if there wasn't one shred of data. Do you people really think you can dump toxic waste into our oceans and into the air indefinitely and nothing will happen? Ever? Is that actually what you're saying? Don't talk to me about science and politics. It's common sense. Try shitting on your kitchen table every day and see how long you live. Fucking idiots.
I put this to you all.. What mankind (all of use that is) pump out day & daily is a mear fraction compared to what Planet Earth & wild life pumps out day & daily (I mean a mear fraction) the Earths climate has for millions of years gone up & down, it is the Earths natural cycle of which is made up of natural forest fires (releasing of CO2 stored in the trees), volcanoes (Variuos gases (mostly lethal) this we can not change. so whats the point
There is no balance to tip, it's Earth natural cycle, which we add a mear fraction to. Whether mankind stops pumping out CO2 completely it will not stop Global warming or Climate Change (FACT), all these Greenie types are actually blaming mankind (me, you & the rest of the world) for the melting ice caps in the North & South poles when in fact this is a natural process, but to Greenies its an echo crisis that needs to be stop. Natural processes can not be reversed, no one can save the earth.
Do mathematics, you gullible dittohead: CO2 concentration is ONE MOLECULE in 10,000 molecules in Earth's atmosphere. Levels have grown since 850,000 years ago fom 2.9 molecules among 10,000 up to 3.8 molecules in 10,000.
.
And that's CATASTROPHIC? Wake up to real knowledge, dude! Santa Claus don't exist! Holy Priest Al Gore is cheating on you!
.
And Friends (or "Fiends"?) of The Earth is taking your money for their hoildays in the Caribbean!
I'm not gullible, so there are records that far back, written proof I hope and not some scientific (estimated data) providing an actual fact based level of CO2 concentration at that time when in fact carbon-dating (which I assume is what has providing the levels u have mentioned)... can at best be only estimates, so until I see dead cert facts and data (no estimates) then I stand my ground. Mankind can not & will never save Planet Earth no matter how hard mankind tries. I could go on & on & on.
Impersonator2001: I wasn't referring to you. I was speaking to "zcaron", that believes in Santa Claus and the Holy Pope Al Gore.
.
Even James Hansen acknowledges that even if 100% of the countries in the world reduce CO2 emissions as Kyoto and Al Gore want, there will be a mere 0.02ºC reduction in temperature by 2050. That amount is only measurable with specialized thermometers, so all this circus going on, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, etc, is the biggest scam ever perpetrated on mankind.
Thanx Achurara, no offence was taken. I know that mankind as a whole contribute 2 the CO2 emmitions etc but from information I have looked at tonight it turns our to be a mere 1% and as I have stated all along a mere fraction of what the Mother Earth pumps out... but thank u for having a similar understanding of Climate Change & Global warming... this topic can go on for ages.. some day soon people will realise that we are not able to save Planet Earth..... as it's not for us to save...
That is real data, not estimates. Much of that data comes from Antarctic ice core samples, where a pool-noodle shaped piece of ice is pulled up with layers of ice dating back 850,000 years. Air bubbles that have been frozen and trapped for all those years are used to determine what the atmospheric air content was like at that time.
zcaron, how can? "that small amount" of C02 which you state accounts for 60+% of the greehouse gas warming effect on this planet is (to me that's Irish) sorry I do come from N. Ireland & as we say here it's all a bit of craic" Look at all the money being pumped in2 trying to save the planet (what about the Credit Crunch) Well I refer back to the last part of my last post & that is "some day soon people will realise that we are not able to save Planet Earth.. as it's not for us to save." END!
It's in the science. It's based on the properties of the gas itself. It's why CO2 is called a "greenhouse gas". It and other greenhouse gases trap heat, which is what causes the natural greenhouse effect on this planet, giving us the average global temperature of ~16 C.
And, while I certainly appreciate your ending quote, the mass of concern around anthropogenic climate change is focused on how climate change is impacting humanity and the level to which we can deal with and/or adapt to these change. I am quite certain the planet will be fine on its own.
You are correct - climate changes. There is natural climate change, and there is human-caused climate change. The issue we're all referring to, I think, is the latter.
There is overwhelming scientific evidence to support the fact that humans are indeed changing the global climate. It is with 95% certainty that the climate changes we are seeing cannot be explained by non-human factors alone.
Absolute certainty does not exist. Thats why I choose to mention where I get my info. In this case it was Doctor Iain Stewart on a 2008 BBC 2 documentary The Climate Wars.
Its almost absolutely certain that profit makes the world go around. Why not invest and make profit out of the implementation of the 3-Dimensional Nanotube Solar Cell technology of William Yuan (500 times more light absorption than commercially-available solar cells) in the American deserts ?
As long as the public believes that scientists disagree on the issue, the people wont demand action (divide the people and conquer). So Exxon, BP, General Motors, Shell, Ford... formed the Global Climate Coalition and throughout the 1990s used the media to promote the views of the minority of sceptical scientists. The Global Coalition has now disbanded, but there are still sceptics around.

Have you ever..I mean Ever though about checking ..Beside the well funded by Greenpeace Exxonsecret web site, and see were Exxon spend or I should say spend it's funding? It also donated 225 million to Standford University to study Alternative Energy and how to improve Emissions for Hydrocarbon fuels. All Those you will not find on Exxonsecrets.. Why Not?
Bravo!!!! friends of the earth. This is exactly the motivation and positive reinforcement the people of any country need to change policy in politics. When local communities speak, act, write, and petition political leader have no choice but to listen and address issues. Urgent matters can not wait! Act Now! it all starts with one individual but together we can create solutions.
Good film, great initiative. Although Tony Blair's comment is a bit redicilous; of all decently developed countries, Britain is not even close to leading the fight against climate change.
An excellent example of how our small contributions CAN make a difference. Show this video to all your sceptic friends and family!! Congratulations Friends of the Earth, congratulations UK.
It's very important to know what target you choose when you start something like this... you can't just make it... It was a campain very well prepared. Congratulations!!!
This campaign is a brilliant testament to organised collective action. Of course more needs to be done, as the government has yet to adress the issue of even their own target regime. Now we need leadership from the top or the people wil vote them out and the next lot stick to the bill's targets.
Being part of a collective action is very constructive. Climate change can only be combatted by everyone working together; the biggest lesson that we on our planet have to learn!
Now we need the politicians to realise that the work has only just begun. From now on, every action has to be measured against a the carbon budget, with no exceptions.
This has to be the most important battle - the battle to save Mother Earth !!!
Lets bring back some of the old rules which basically helped protect the environment . Sometimes Old is Gold - lets bring back the idea that the Earth is OUR MOTHER !!! that should help !!!
This message and The Big ASK are such empowering messages. This is the way WE the people will get governments to LISTEN to us.
We HAVE to let them know that we CARE. Taking action has never been easier, or more necessary. Let us write, email, demonstrate, sing and remind the people who represent US that they do just that and that we ARE watching and expect JUST THAT. The earth is our best present, lets make it a wonderful present for the future too. ZubinNur
Politicians know that the people want action. They have to start listening to the millions of little voices instead of to the few big voices of enterprise. We have to get louder!
Our scientific understanding of climate change is sufficiently sound to make us highly confident that greenhouse gas emissions are causing global warming.
The message from IPCC is stark. Indeed, we are almost certainly past the "tipping point" and will be hard put to it to hold carbon dioxide emissions to the top limit of 550 parts per million (ppm) unless low carbon technologies are introduced as a matter of extreme urgency.

Fantastic video, fantastic result... but I think more people need to take responsibility for their own actions. It's not just about influencing politicians. It's about switching things off instead of leaving them on standby, not driving big cars, cutting back or stopping flying. THESE things will make a HUGE difference!
I agree with androu21 it was impressive it should be done down here by the jersey shore where i live and in new york staten island where my kids live i know that they and there friends would take part in this as i would do down here
Excellent. We need to stop being passive and thinking we cannot make a difference. That's what stops change and what the money mongers rely on to keep destroying the earth for profit. If more and more people start taking responsibility for their own actions, including ourselves, we can work miracles. Let's not stand idle anymore. Congratulations.
If Thom Yorke no longer feels that sense of hopelessness, what will happen to the best music of despair the world has ever heard? But seriously, it is so wonderful to see citizens' action being taken notice of by politicians. Keep it up, folks!
I think that it'n not fault of anyone but of echone of us... especiallyour ascendants, but well, in fact the only thing that we can do is continue our search for the clue to stop the climate chage!
Great, keep up the pressure. This is the biggest issue that humans have ever faced throughout history. In 100 years me might all be just that - history!
NOTHING else will matter if the planet dies or more accurately, the climate changes, so that WE will die of starvation. If the land is too parched to grow food in some places and too wet in others, if crops die in freak frosts or heatwaves, we can't grow more. If our water table is contaminated with saline due to rising sea levels - big problem. This has to be the number 1 concern for everyone on this Earth. We are all responsible for what happens next.

Loopico 3 years ago
NOTHING else will matter if the planet dies or more accurately, the climate changes, so that WE will die of starvation. If the land is too parched to grow food in some places and too wet in others, if crops die in freak frosts or heatwaves, we can't grow more. If our water table is contaminated with saline due to rising sea levels - big problem. This has to be the number 1 concern for everyone on this Earth. We are all responsible for what happens next.

What could be more important, let's hope politicians take some serious action soon!
