  • ... Of course the NZT didn't start with the Devils in the 90s; it's been run in variations for decades. The Canadiens of the 70s did a ton of trapping.

  • @JTDutch what i heard of the trap was developed by the swedes in international play to stop the high flying soviet union ice hockey team.

  • You just copied part of the article on Wikipedia and took out the part about the forechecker. This video is a rudimentary version of the trap. You cannot run the trap without some sort of forecheck to create pressure for the puck carrier to skate towards the side boards or pass to the side boards where the wingers are positioned on the red line.

  • This is not a neutral zone trap. Neutral zone trap is a defensive strategy with no players forechecking. All they have to do is to bring all players inside the defensive zone and/or neutral zone and positioned themselves to challenge the puck carrier, prevent passing, or even keep opponents from moving through.

    In the video all I see is one player forechecking the puck carrier.

    You, obviously, don't know anything about hockey.

  • Apparently they didn't do it well enough because they still lost this series.
