  • What it actually scares me is that painting at 0:05 :(

  • Silly the 3rd? No wonder...

  • @Zydocommy So you're saying he was a conquering thug?

  • Are there any modern day historical figures that relate to him some how?

  • A little known fact is that Ivan The Terrible's mother was Polish, making Ivan half Polish.

  • @JozefKPilsudski I hope you also know that Poland was an enemy of Ivan.

  • @blokdeblok I do, I never said it wasn't

  • @JozefKPilsudski Ivan Terrible`s mother was Serbian.

I have no idea where did you get the fact she was Polish.

  • i'm related to him

  • What a bunch of bullshit. Most of these claims by discovery are just rumor and not rooted in solid historical evidence. Just goes to show they value entertainment and sensationalism over true history.

  • Does anyone one know who the last man in the intro is? :)

  • "All in the name of God."

    Really? ARE YOU SURE?

    That's a load of antichristian B.S.

  • @MontChevalier Yes they are sure as it is backed up by facts. Ivan did what he did in the name of god, that doe not mean god told him to do it. You need to learn to comprehend and understand instead of just writing rather pathetic comments.

By the way, Christianity is stupid.

  • @Ravensteinzh No, you're stupid.

  • I would NOT want to go home to a man like that at :36!

  • This documentary seems very biased in that it portrays Ivan as a purely evil man. He did turn Russia into a world power at the time and helped it into prosperity...

  • Comment removed

  • yeah this is shit. really? stabbed to death? more like CLUBBED TO DEATH. wtf you see blood gushing from the head. try stabbing a head, that's kinda hard to do man

  • "mankink" HAHAHAHHA

  • sorry, to dissapoint you Ivan but that is not Christianity and you had no personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • @pillowcase97

Duh! You can't have a relationship with a dead man!

  • /watch?v=f8wStvoB4iQ

  • Ivan the terrible - last king of Rusia

  • My name is Ivan :)

  • @4857ivan no seas terribleªª

  • @4857ivan me too...You are russian ,serbian, croatian,bulgarian ?

  • Sure, I have heard he was even nominated for Nobel Piece prize.

  • @dynamikausa *peace, you idiot

  • Discovery version of russian history is a such a pile of shit ...

  • @ZolotoPartii Obviously. It was made for entertainment purposes, not educational, accurate purposes. Note they are highlighting the darker, mental aspects of Ivan. You want a documentary? The Brits or Russian version may be better.

  • @votumseparatum1 Doesn't change the fact that discovery shits in to people's minds.

  • @ZolotoPartii Of course it changes the fact. No one FORCED you to watch this. You don't like it, don't watch it. It's that simple. Stop bitching and complaining and go somewhere else.

  • @votumseparatum1 and what comments are fore then ?

  • @ZolotoPartii ...whhhhat? You can go onto any web site (or read a book, which I highly reccomend...No body reads book as much as they should anymore :p) ) and research for yourself though. LOL! :p

  • i am a foreigner just recently discovered the discovery channel ...their shows are solid and watchable ..epic

  • lol does anyone else notice that the featured video is absurd fat chicken?

  • Anyone notice how mush Ivan the Terrible looks like Vincent Price?

  • now I understand why people say russia is so wild! stalin, rasputin and ivan...

  • Great,

    Stalin

    Rasputin

And IVan, why does russia have no many evils

  • @papasmurfXXX Rasputin was less "evil," than a con man who got an extraordinarily lucky break for a few years, then had the most epic death ever, was remembered for over a century as the epitome of all things spooky, rowdy and Russian, then had a good brand of beer and a shitty vodka cocktail named after him.

  • @yerk3 - Rasputin (according to British intelligence) was assassinated by the British, to keep WW1 going. I don't know if you know that - your emails are so badly-written it's hard to work out what, if anything, you mean.

  • @rerevisionist Which "intelligence?" Which file? Because the scenario, as you put it forth, doesn't make a lick of sense. Rasputin was not a target of any strategic value. He was not a government official, he didn't have any control of the army or government, he was, at worst, a petty charlatan who took advantage of the royal family's desperation and gullibility, and tarnished their public image with his reckless debauchery.

  • @rerevisionist If the British really wanted to damage the Romanovs, they would have had more success by telling Rasputin to do more of whatever he was doing, get drunk more, maybe make a few public boasts about how everyone's taxes were paying for his wine, and what an easy mark the Tzar was. As it stood, he was making a laughing stock of the royal family. Newspapers were running cartoons of the Nicholas II dancing moronically as Rasputin played some sort of clay flute.

  • @yerk3 - Rasputin always said that he could have prevented World War I, by telling the Tsar not to be so silly. The peasants always opposed the war. He happened to be ill on the day the Tsar declared war. He had a lot of influence on the Tsaritsa, and what he said may well be true. That's why he was assassinated.

  • @rerevisionist Rasputin couldn't have prevented WWI any more than Miss Cleo from the Psychic Friends Network could have prevented the Iraq war. He was a mystic, not a world leader. What the peasants wanted was never part of the equation. Nicholas didn't give a damn about what the peasants thought, he considered it his birthright to rule over them, and for them to obey his commands and edicts without question.

  • @rerevisionist Furthermore, it was the Austro-Hungarians who declared war, not the Russians. The situation leading up to the war was years in the making, there was no way either of the parties involved could have prevented it at that late date, even if they had wanted to, which none of them did. If any of Rasputin's "predictions" ever happened to be true, it was by sheer coincidence alone. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

  • @rerevisionist You're damn right his "influence" on the Empress was part of the reason he was assassinated. Their closeness was beginning to look unseemly to various members if the royal family. Newspapers critical of the regime insinuated that the two were having an affair. Needless to say, this gave some members of the Royal family a very compelling motive to get rid of this flea-ridden peasant troublemaker before he could damage their family's reputation even further.

  • @rerevisionist are you retarded? Rasputin was assassinated by Russian revolutionaries not the british

  • Remember this stuff is probably financed by Jews.

  • @rerevisionist LOL ^^

  • @sandasassin18 - when you aren't assassinating sand, bear in mind there was hostility between Russians (and Poles and others) and so-called Jews, and the later managed to murder a large number of them. They have no inclination to truth in history anyway, and certainly would smear Ivan without a second thought. I don't know what I the T was like, but since Jews own most 'western' media, the chance of an accurate presentation is as good as the chance of a truthful account of the 'Holocaust'

  • @rerevisionist The "hostility" between Russians and Poles and the Jewish populations of those countries was consistently one-sided, with Russians and Poles attacking Jews, murdering them in large numbers, conducting purges, and burning their villages. When did Jews murder "large numbers" of Poles or Russians? Ivan the Terrible's crimes, especially in the later part of his rule, were well documented. You can't ague with the evidence.

  • @yerk3 - Even professional raciust cult apologists such as Eric Hobsbawm admit the numbers in 'pogroms' were tiny. The reasons for these outbreaks are not well known. Jews murdered tens of millions under the so-called 'Communist' regime.

  • @rerevisionist Why do you put "pogroms" in quotations? Are you trying to deny that they happened? Historians, at least the ones who care more about accuracy than promoting anti-semitic agendas, would beg to differ. The reason for these "outbreaks" was as clear as a Winter morning: the government was falling to shit, mostly out of its own incompetence, people were getting desperate, and they needed a scapegoat. It was just like racism in the Deep South in the 50s.

  • @yerk3 - check the numbers. That's why. It's hilarious that you compare the wildernesses of Poland and Russia with the deep south. Why do you consistently deny the involvement of Jews in mass murder?

  • @rerevisionist Because their "involvement" exists solely in your racism-addled brain.

  • @sandasassin18 no no..dont get me wrong..im not making fun of this comment...i found it funny..because...its funny lol...clam down..dont want to start a youtube arguement just to waste your precious time and mine

  • Typical Russian. Absolute nutcase.

  • Idiots see the Terrible in Ivan's title to mean evil, or cruel, but the Russian word is closer to formidable, or mighty. His actions brought his country to a golden age that would soon plummet after his blood's reign had ceased.

  • @Lestat13TheVampire It means both, actually.

  • Are we sure we need a NWO, under another one of these DEVIL from Hell, Histor has a way of reapeating it's self.

  • @maria610421 What the hell does this have to do with NWO? "One world government" would be the enemy of despots, despots depend on enemies to scapegoat to maintain control over the people. Rule by fear was very seldom "do what we say, or WE will get you," it was almost always "do what we say, or THEY will get you." A modern example would be George Bush with the Taliban, or Nixon and the Communists. Without foreign enemies, despots have nothing to hide behind.

  • @yerk3: What do you think the Dictator of the NWO will be like??, I am not your problem the system of another totalitarian Dictatorship will kill you and all of your family you will remember nothing. History repeats it's self and all those who seek total power will corrupt totally. Zionist Nazis rings any bells??.

  • @maria610421 For one thing, I don't buy the whole "NWO" story. Every element of the NWO mythos is based on paranoid guesses and the flimsiest of evidence. Also, I've studied how authoritarian regimes actually work, and in every case, they need an enemy, specifically an external, foreign enemy who can be spun to represent the antithesis of their national values (an obsession with conservative national values is a hallmark of totalitarian regimes) to scare the people.

  • @maria610421 With the Romans it was the Gauls, then the Christians, then the Huns, then finally the Arabs. With the Ottoman Empire, it was Christendom, and alternately with the European empires, it was the Turk. Under Cromwell, it was the Papacy, with Ivan the Terrible, it was the Germans and the Tatars.

  • and swedes, we still have his helmet in our possession.

  • @maria610421 It was always "this may not be paradise, but it's a damn sight better than getting raped by the Turks / having your throat cut in your sleep by the Catholics / getting dragged off to the Gulag by the Russians, etc.

  • was ivan a very crazy man?

  • don't mess with tsar ivan!

  • all of the worlds monarchies were psychopaths,

  • @lunafringe10 Look up Suleiman 1, James 1, Gustav 2nd, Augustus of Rome. The last one, Augustus of Rome, reformed the taxation system and the world wouldn't be the same today without him. All these people and MANY MANY more dragged their country out of dark times and into economical paradise.

  • @Bikertothemax1 that is one thing. slave labour, serfdom and so on are yet quite another, Plus all of those wars. Only the families of kings and emperors benefited

    from them, Death and destruction,

  • @lunafringe10 They constructed large power structures which made the modern era possible.

  • HAHAHA NOT FUNNY

  • check out my video THE TERRIBL3 and angrybannokslap now thats history lmao

  • Ivan The Terrible......yanks what can u say lol, u never even had a king, immigrant nation.

  • this video just became by best friend. i'm doing a report on ivan, and well i need some info on him.

  • @ lordmalice-That's exactly right. Christ had a word for those types of people. Hypocrites.

  • That painting at 0:03 is a haunting image. A very compelling picture of what Ivan the terrible was like.

  • lol not all us americans are absolute idiots (but most are)

  • @masterkemp agreed :) lol

  • @masterkemp dont worry...that is just a stereotype of americans...but in reality it is the same all over the world

  • @masterkemp Dude, I was having a conversation with someone about the difference between Arabs and Persians, and the idiot said they were all the same. What an idiot.

  • lol video info

    "in the history of mankink"

  • "Ivan the terrible" liked to play chess, but only accoding to his own rules. These eliminated the king from the board, so that the " king" could never be checked.

  • Well, I'm glad that Ivan is being tried in Germany. He deserved severe punishment. God bless America!

  • @cardicianman1

:) American education so nice.... Ivan 4 died many centuries ago. ^^

  • yes thank god for our education i'm glad at least i was properly educated

  • That's false. He's alive and not doing too well unfortunately and in German custdoy being tried for crimes he hasn't commited. Learn your facts before you pass judgement. Ivan the Terrible is a survivor! God bless him!

  • In Germany now judgment above former prisoner of war who was nicknamed Ivan the Terrible. The real Ivan 4 is dead.

  • I heard he was downgraded to Ivan the Pretty Bad

  • @muzlinkage LOL

  • Hah i'm related to ivan the terrible he my great grandfather he is the reason i am 82% russian!

  • Stalin stablished a cult to the Tzar Ivan, the terrible. Such as Ivan and Lenin, Stalin had syphillis.

  • Super tank your right. The west dont give a shit about true christians which is orthodox christians.

Once again they try to portray muslims as inocent people hmm yes im sure they took over all those lands with a good old fashioned hand shake!

  • Vlad's impaling and this guy's boiling and frying is epically sickening.

  • @2rani

The two would have made a great couple!

  • oh this is a load of crap. Ivan the terrible was not one of the most evil men in history. And neither was Vlad. Ivan modernized Russia, in fact saving it, not waging a war on it as this show claims. And Vlad was a hero, fighting against imperialist Turks. His punishments were not unusual for the time and he was a great man. This is a lie

  • Was it standard practice when Vlad sliced a woman open from head to crotch when it turned out she wasn't pregnant with his child? And then laugh about it to the watchers on?

  • @epearl8 you can be only grateful that you will never experience the "greatness" of Vlad or Ivan on you own skin

  • fucked up shit

  • Ivan 4 was very intelligent and perfectly educated man. He was fluent in six languages (including German, English, Greek and Latin). His library was the greatest in Europe. He revived Russia from the ashes like a phoenix, making it the greatest empire. Furthermore, you incorrectly call it in Russian "Grozny" is not mean "terrible". "Grozny" = "like thunder, terrible to your enemies".

  • @SuperTankT95 oh yeah very intelegent man wow so intelegent beating his own son to death and torturing tausands of people.

I tell you one think go and suck so donkey dick u stupid bastard

  • You stupid idiot. Son of Ivan 4 died of disease (may be poison). Historians refuted the version of the murder, but those Western liberals continue to denigrate the Russian by any method. He killed jews and traitors it is true.

  • @SuperTankT95 i believe historical facts rather than you stupid assholes.U invent stories without any proof

  • @sa1dikotar

    Ok subhuman, read this - w w w . perunica. r u/istoria/831-ivan-groznyj-ne-ubival-svoego-syna. h tml

  • @SuperTankT95 LOL I don't think one more murder or less would change the fact that IV Ivan was an evil monster. And it's not just that he killed it's the WAY he killed what makes him nothing but a pile of pigshit

  • @SuperTankT95 Don't you understand that noone gives a shit about libraries and empires when someone burns people alive??? You fucking moron you!

  • Ivan 4 is burn the traitors, this was cruel time. In the Europe all people maked such things. Richard executed the thousands humans, but he is a Hero for you. Where was invented giletina, Spanish boots, vices for finger, puppets for executions etc ? . Western cry about "Russian monster" just ridiculous.

  • you couldn't be more wrong. Richard a hero to me??? I despise all fucking monsters who tortured people. They were (and are) nothing but pigshit in a human body. And so are those who defend them.

  • @SuperTankT95 Grozny became Grosenick later on.

  • @SuperTankT95 Yeah Russia is considered great......you sure know your history ha ha ha ha ha

  • @original5productions yeah no no you're right man. russia just kinda won fucking world war 2, destroyed napoleon's army, united into one of the biggest countries in the world, they needed the biggest railroad in the world to get from one side of the country to the other. queen catherine used the first vaccine in history, and when russia was a bit down on it's welfare, king peter created petersburg from the knowledge of the dutch. russia has wonderfull art and music. compare that to america. HAH!

  • @original5productions y'know, just to name a few things

  • Ohhh, sorry; then it is ok to stab your son and literally fry people. My mistake. I thought that was wrong; but now that you clarified that he was smart, it's all good. I hope you don't bump into a smart man any soon... well, actually, I do.

    Greetings!

  • @SuperTankT95 He left Russia broken and in disarray, and only knew how to speak Russian. "Terrible" came from the fact he pillaged, stole, raped, and torched his own country men and women. Where are u getting this ridiculous facts of a hero? Whats next the holocaust and WW2 didn't happen.

  • Comment removed

  • Another well done but futile attempt to link the teachings of Christ to one of history's mass murderers.

  • I never blame my God who whoever god they kill for. It's the own person's fault.

  • @dawnmarko1 I don't think Christianity itself makes people kill specailly those who follow very closely the real teachings of Christ.

But, there is no denying that many people throughout history who claimed to be Christians have been awful and horrible people.

  • @LordMalice6d9 just a dress wearin jew walkin around in a desert talkin crazy

  • Organized religion corrupts where ever it is on the planet.

  • fuck europe u idiots think u kno russia, u dont kno shit, this is western propaganda, juss bekause ivan was against western bullshit he is a bad ruler? fuck u this is bullshitt

  • what do you mean? he did these things thou?

  • ofcourse in every ruler they do bad, but he united the russian people and fought for our culture and faith...

he was not as bad as this shows him to be.

  • Ivan was a declared fan/admiror of Vlad dracula .He ask to his people many times to read him about vlad .(they actualy read the propaganda of a minority which existed and still exist in romania -the germans) . That propaganda sad that vlad was very cruelty etc..

  • i dont know im not totally convinced as soon as some one start boiling and frying people to death i have to take a step back and consider the person a bit closer, you know give them a second thought, sadam was rufless, starlin killed more people in russia and ukrian than the whole ww2 right? hitler was upset with the jews for a number of reasons search you tube for "alternative look at ww1,ww2" watch it all dont start stopping it half way through watch it all. murder is murder thou..a sin.

  • For example:

This stupid Voice says that the nobiliti was the boyars

He sayd that in the Vlad tepes documentery

    Discovery sucks

  • @napoleon10100 Look up the Oxford English dictionary definition of Boyar. It says old aristocracy, next in rank to prince. Are they also incorrect?

  • @bn279626 in russian it sounds diferent

  • Don't believe everything Discovery says

They just Spice everything, for more rating

  • i like the background music though

  • ispiration of occidental cattolic medicine, terapy, parental

  • odierne

  • Ivan the awesome.

  • I don't get why people selected this as a poor comment, since that Ivan IV is also known as Ivan the Awesome in Russia

  • @milky0candy Not awesome in the way we use it. Awesome just means inspiring awe. An awesome sight can also be (and often is) a horrific or terrifying sight.

  • Why was he called the terrible?

  • the word TERRIBLE in russian does not have the same meaning as it does in english, like, her pussy smelled terrible...its not like that

the word TERRIBLE more like FEARCE, thus, his name was really , IVAN the FEARCE.

there is a city in chechnya called grozny, which means terribe, but its really not terrible its fearce, I dont know who does all these translations but im fluent in russian and sometimes i bug out about how wrong the translations are.

  • I don't want to be an asshole but the word is FIERCE.

Almost every single post on this clip has totally shit grammar.

I understand most people here don't speak English as a first language, but it's an English speaking documentary.

So to properly represent your case you should be able to string some anglo words together. It's fine once in a while but literally every one of these posts is in broken English and it's very shitty to have to read and still try and respect the opinion of the post

  • Fearsome is also correct as a matter of a fact...

  • @mistermajestyck Fearsome is correct, Fierce and fearsome are unrelated words.

  • @firebender213 because he killed his own people and stabbed his sons.During this time people say that ivan the terrible was just only belieiving himself that he can control his own country

  • Most leaders where cruel to all but not their own, Russian leaders where cruel to their own people.

  • Do you know something about the night of St. Barthelemy? 30 thousand people were then perished. The nubmer of the victims of Ivan the Terrible makes 5000 people. Who is more cruel?

  • wow a lot of this is wrong. he hit his son, not stabbed him.

  • yes, apart from some of the historians trying to be objective, the commentary is tendencious and subjective.

  • Apart from Catherine the great ALL russian leaders have been cruel.

  • Not only russian leaders, cruelty was widely accepted by all world leaders at that time and i doubt even catherine was that peacefull.

  • Maybe but Russia leaders throughout history have tranceded all other European leaders in terms of cruelty and merciless oppression of their own people.

  • Waw, how do you know? Did you live through the whole russian history? Are you, at least, some expert of Russian and worldwide history? Not.

You are just another brainwashed idiot whos inspired by dumb discovery channel documentaries.

  • Chikimeimei

I do research amoeba brain. I read and study different material that is how you learn dumbass rather than sit at home smoking dope and watching cartoons which you probably did.

Ivan was called 'The Terrible' for a reason and that was not because he had bad breath.

Now go get an education child and leave the grown ups to talk.

  • Yeah right, make believe, make believe.

By the way "The terrible " is a terrible translation. "Грозный" doesn't mean "terrible", there is just no word in english vocabulary that can translate this adequately.

  • Groznyi means mor elike Ivan the Fearsome

    not Ivan the terrible

terrible in ancient english would mean the fierce, not like the actual definition.

So correct will be Ivan the Fierced or Ivan the Fearsome

  • Russian leaders regularly killed and tortured on mass they especially concentrated on their own peoples for it seems all their history until at least Stalin in the 20th century no other European nation has such a bloody history.

  • most of russians does not give a shit about totalitarian authorities or not. Actually they always liked strong state forms and considered nation's power as something more important than personal freedom. That's why Ivan The Terrible of Stalin are so popular in Russia

  • Stalin spoke about itself - "Ivan Grozny my teacher".

  • At that time there was no power without brutality in the whole of Europe and that includes the reign of Catherine.

While she was receiving the French philosophes in her salon the cries of the tortured where heard in the basement.

  • Catherine`s reign compared to the reign of Ivan or Peter or Stalin or the rest of the Tsars with a few exceptions is relatively peaceful.

  • At least you admit catherine's reign was just "relatively" peaceful. You are improving your judgment Happy.

  • I`m so glad i meet to your approval oh great and wise sage.

  • That's because you deserve my approval happyone.

  • Ivan IV was greatest Russian ruler. Jews hate him because he has forbidden judaism and execution many jews.

  • Actually his russian name is "Grozny Ivan" which means Ivan the awe inspiring and he could not possibly wage war on Russia because he created it. He was the first czar since his father Vasili was a prince of Muscovy and not a czar.

  • Also very explainable is the reason why ivan became terrible (although it's a false translation of the russian "impressionant"). A parentless child constantly in fear for his life threatened by rivaling fractions and at the same time taught to be ruler of life and death in the whole of russia. By maturing it's almost logical that he became aware that the only way to remove his fear was tot threaten all others and he had the means for that and above all he was educated to that destiny.

  • whatever can be said about ivan vassiljevitch it is very probable that without him russia probably would have never exist and the country beïng divided by polish, lithuanians, mongols, germans. Belonging to the generation of enlightened kings who, though it probably was not their first aim, partly liberated the people of the oppression imposed by local nobility and clerus.

Very sad story because both the actions of the czar as well as the bojars can be explained and defended.

  • Ivan just fight with moscow oligarchs who trade "Mother Russia"
