I've seen the front & back Post stitches, and the front and back Loop stitches. Some of the stitches look quite similar, but I'm still a little confused as to when I would decide to do the post or the loop stitches. It seems like front post ends up with vertical ribbing and the loops go horizontal? Is there a big difference between the loop or the post stitches? I'm about 3 weeks into learning to crochet, so I'm still trying to learn. Thanks to anyone who can help my confusion ♥
Thank you so much. I've been crocheting for decades, but have never used this stitch. Just recently started a pattern that required fpdc and I was in a quandary as to how it was done. Your directions are very clear.
You are my new go to guide when I get stuck. I've gained so much confidence from your very easy to understand videos. Thanks so much for helping so many of us!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just started crocheting and was terrified of using patterns. I got a pattern that called for both of these two stitches and you explained it wonderfully! Thank You! I'm a new fan!
@tjw1963 Hello T, Thanks so much for your crochet videos...I would never be able to finish my projects if it weren't for referring back to your videos to see how to do special stitches... I learned to crochet from you a couple years ago. Whipping out last minute Christmas gifts now and I'm in a panic when my patterns call for something I don't understand or forgot. Do you do knitting video's :-) Your free patterns and videos are so appreciated...
Hello Teresa, I am making squares for a lapghan which has raised petal shapes in the design. I need to do a front post double crochet DECREASE in order to make the point of each petal. I kind of made one up but don't know if it is correct. Could you please help me with this kind of decrease? Thank you very much for videos and everything else that you do to promote the wonderful art of crochet. Geneva your
@genevalou To make a decrease, you will make it the same way you make a regular decrease. Leave the last two loops on your hook from the first stitch. Work the second stitch leaving the last 3 loops on your hook. Wrap the yarn over an pull through all 3 loops.
Teresa, thank you so much for your wonderful videos! I just started crocheting again after putting down my hooks 30 years ago!! (I would take it up after a break up with a boyfriend to have something to do on those lonely Saturday nights, and when I'd get a new boyfriend I'd give it up. Finally I got married...)You definitely have the best crochet videos on the Internet! You are a treasure!!
Very nice tutorial.. My daughter is learning to crochet with the use of the internet. This is a very helpful tutorial.. She does not have a grandma so this is the next best thing. Wendi
Your videos are so awesome. I have to do this stitch in a pattern and couldn't understand the written too well but seeing you do it is so wonderful. Thank you so much for your videos
Hi Teresa, Well I finally got it!!! It was difficult for me to understand the written pattern, but after watching your video, I remembered doing this stitch some yrs ago. Just like the post before, I love you!! Thank you for being you. God has blessed us with you, and I know he has blessed you with your gift.
@tjw1963 You are so welcome. I was doing just find with this pattern until I reached the cable part, It reads: Sk next 3 sts, FPdc around post of next 3 sts, working behind last 3 FPdc. FPdc in each of skipped sts. I understand how to do the FPdc, I'm lost on the last part. The sts are all bunched together. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.
@twilightydreams If you want to work regular double crochet for a while, you will work them in the top of the stitch and then continue with the front or back post.
Teresa, I just love you! I can refer to your videos for a quick brusher upper lesson and your videos are so clear and easy to understand. God bless you!
HI I am working on a pattern that says: Yo, working from front to back to front, insert hook around post of st of row below, yo and draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st behind the FPdc. The posts and the double crochet are no problem, I however, get lost at the word twice. I know that if I don't do this twice I end up with half of the number of stitches as I began with. The scarf wants 2 FPDC, 3 BPDC, 3 FPDC, 3 BPDC, 2FPDC, hdc. Twice meaning what exactly? THANX
The pattern I'm working with right now calls for front post double crochet and it says on the right side. Which one Is the right side?the side that has the rib raised by doing the fpdc or the other side? Thanks!
@TheMissyfiona Think of right side like a shirt. You have the right side and the wrong side. Sometimes with crochet, you have to decide which side will be the right side and then go from there making your stitches on the same side for the remainder of the pattern.
Hi Teresa, thank you for the video, i m going to make a hat and i m wondering how to make an increase for both Front post dc and backpost dc .
It says in my book " make 12 double crochets for the 1st round" which i understand...,but then the 2nd round i have to add 12 more stitches ,2 front post dc ,2 back post dc alternately. When i do it, the stitches are way too tide and they look very messy,i m not sure if i do it in the right way... can you pls show it to me when u have time? Thanks a lot!
Thanks so much .. you teach all I needed. I just thought the slow motion is a bit too slow for me... but I'm not your only audience I know... I'm very appreciate your teaching. Thank you! :D
Thanks soooo much for this site! I come here so often now to find out how to do certain stitches! I especially love your demos on front and back stitch db crochet! May God Bless you! I can't thank you enough!
Thank you I hope you plan to stay on utube. I saw an afghan I wanted to make using this method in squares and now I can make it! My mom is going to love it!
before hand I had to do 1 double crochet in a stitch then I had to do 2 double crochet in 1 stitch. Now I have to do the fpdc and the bpdc and I was wondering when I come to the posts where there's two in one stitch do i go around both of them while doing a fpdc and a bpdc or do I just go around one of them at a time?? I'm following a pattern for a cupcake purse I'm making for my daughter :)
You must be talking about an increase. I like to go around the post of the stitch twice. It is up to you if you prefer to crochet in the top of the stitch for the increase. It will work both ways.
Your videos has helped me so much since i started crocheting so I though it would be best to ask you question.
A pattern i am working on calls for me to do a *Fpdc around 1st post of prev rows dc then sc in the next st repeating * over a total of 100 dc in the prev row. where i am supposed to put in my sc in the sts. its hard since its a text based pattern and is not too clear as to where to place the sc.
If you could help out it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :)
Thank you. :) If you are working over 100 stitches, then 50 will be single crochet. The single crochet will be worked in the top of the row you just got through crocheting. The FPDC is a stitch over the post of the previous stitch, then you single crochet in the top of the next stitch of the previous row. I hope that makes sense.
This is the stitch used with the basketweave stitch. It was also used with the cable X crossover tutorial for the large cable. These cables are used to create shapes, textures and designs.

Would 175-250 stitches work for a blanket using this pattern? I love your videos they are so darn informative!
silentwriterofpa 1 year ago
@silentwriterofpa Thank you! The amount may not be exact so you could end up with extra chains. The extra chains can be sewn in at the end.
