WONDERFUL song. Of course, they're completely wrong. Oil output and proven reserves have gone up and continue to go up and will continue to go up for at least 100 more years.
@classiclibertarian Uh... nope, not wrong. There's only so much oil in the ground, just because we don't know where it is doesn't mean that it's not finite.
Until you can demonstrate to me that the planet is actively producing the stuff, this song is gonna be true.
@XaleManix A very tiny amount of crude oil is produced naturally, on a yearly basis. You can try googling the subject. That's not really what I'm referring to, however.
I'm just saying that we're not going to hit peak oil until about 100 years. There's a LOT more oil around than most people think.
"alternate sources of power must be found...cause there's only so much oil in the ground" soooo prophetic .....too bad the repub oil money machine didn't listen
@Smellypavie, This song was recorded in 1974 and it looks like we still haven't learned or applied anything useful towards our oil dependancy. "It's a fact we just 'aint got sufficient fuel". Peace.
@Smellypavie - I heard it for the first time in 1973. It was very pertinent THEN - it was right around the time of the oil embargo when OPEC was born. We STILL have not learned our lesson - that there is ONLY SO MUCH OIL in the ground. Why are we so DUMB???? This ought to be our new national anthem! What incredible, tight horns. Sounds as great today as it did in my boyfriends room almost 40 years ago!!!!
@MrVerncoleman I'm a baby! Just 20! But I can remember listening to two of their albums with my dad... Back To Oakland and Urban Renewal! For some reason I always favored Urban Renewal though!
@PaulsLadyTX they are also two of my favs. if you want to get floored check out live and in living color! at you age you have lots of time to enjoy one of the greatest bands of all time! im sure your dad knows what im talking about. i think that album is one of the best albums ever recorded! once you hear it im sure you will agree!
@PaulsLadyTX you got a good education young man. maybe your generation can find an alternatve fuel source that will not destroy our oceans. i could kick bp straight it's ass.
@alexalot23 totally agree. paulsladytx alexalot23 is right on the money. i also hope that your generation can find some other source of energy. also as far as music is concerned i also hope you turn your friends on to T.O.P. hey alexalot23 why dont B.P. go back to G.B.?
@PaulsLadyTX im like a dinosaur at 52. but if you like this there are many T.O.P. albums by them that are just mind blowing. they are one of my top 3 fav groups of all time!

Although we get better at tracking it down and sucking it up, the fact remains that there's only so much oil in the ground.
Just because a substance is in large supply doesn't mean we should keep being reliant on it. In fact, addicted would be a better word..

I love how this song is equally as, or more, relevant now than when it was released in 1974. Tower of Power FTW
