If you talk to them within the context of Islam and respectfully, they WILL listen and more importantly we should try to understand them.

A purely military solution would require a massive military presence for decades. The ANA is in no shape to take over and the Afghan government is a mess. This was done by actually learning about them and seperating the less fanatical nationalist groups from the worst religious extremists. Also forcing joint Sunni/Shi'a mixed ING/police units helped tremendously to reduce sectarian violence. Afghanistan is different, but many of lessons of Iraq still apply.

@GoldenGhettoFilms Many soldiers have actually converted to Islam. I have two friends who served in Iraq in the U.S. Army who converted to Islam and know of many more. It is actually quite common (shhhh...don't let the media know). Often the conversions are done secretely to avoid harassment from fellow soldiers and to avoid losing security clearances. Go to any large mosque in the U.S. and you will find ex military (and active duty) converts. Verify this for yourself if you don't believe me.

But later now when the whole country was ruined USA left them like that they didn't rebuild that country like they're in Iraq because there was no oil to make US their $ back. When will the USA stop playing games in Afghanistan? Can those supposed military leaders eithr take the Taliban out or just pull up stakes and go home? Billions of dollars poured down a sink hole is not going to win the war.
Do I have a suggestion? Hell yes but the military people or the civilian Section just wouldn't listen. All wars are winnable as long the supposed leaders want to win.

By bombing 3 to 4 talib may be killed but it creates more than 10 talibs. I agree....all NATO soldiers should be well trained in Afghani culture and in at least basic Islamic theology so that they are NOT seen as enemies of Islam but rather promote a positive form of Islam. Most Taiban don't realize how many American soldiers they could convert to Islam if they agreed to stop fighting and work with these soldiers as policemen in exchange for mandatory classes on Islam for all NATO forces.

@wigon That's fuckin' retarded. I don't know how you got 9 thumbs up. Do you really think either NATO/US forces and Taliban want to talk? Nobody goes to war in order to talk. We're there to kill, they're there to kill back. Neither side wants a peaceful resolution, and there won't be any. The Taliban is a de-centralized group without a leader. You can't destroy that which does not show itself and that which has no head to destroy.

@GoldenGhettoFilms Yes I do believe many will talk and although their leadership is decentralized, they still have leaders and more importantly they have only a few spiritual leaders. Why do I know this? Because I've talked to many Pashtun Taliban supporters (possible members...I don't ask) and have developed Islamic based dialog with them. If you talk to them within the context of Islam and respectfully, they WILL listen and more importantly we should try to understand them.

@GoldenGhettoFilms I should also add that if killing the Taliban is the solution, then you disagree with General Patraeus's "hearts and minds" approach. A purely military solution would require a massive military presence for decades. The ANA is in no shape to take over and the Afghan government is a mess. The Russians killed a HELL of alot more of them and they still kept coming after 8 years. Your solution would only work if nuclear/biological weapons were used (genocide).

@GoldenGhettoFilms Do you think Iraq was stabilized by simply killing Iraqis? There was a HUGE amount of work done actually TALKING TO TERRORISTS in Iraq that pursuaded them to support us. This was done by actually learning about them and seperating the less fanatical nationalist groups from the worst religious extremists. Also forcing joint Sunni/Shi'a mixed ING/police units helped tremendously to reduce sectarian violence. Afghanistan is different, but many of lessons of Iraq still apply.

@GoldenGhettoFilms Many soldiers have actually converted to Islam. I have two friends who served in Iraq in the U.S. Army who converted to Islam and know of many more. It is actually quite common (shhhh...don't let the media know). Often the conversions are done secretely to avoid harassment from fellow soldiers and to avoid losing security clearances. Go to any large mosque in the U.S. and you will find ex military (and active duty) converts. Verify this for yourself if you don't believe me.
