Not quite as elegant as a couple of others around here, but your version costs a lot less, and should take about 1/4 the time to make-brilliant design! Congratulations.

By using a Vivitar 285 you can control the power of the flash manually . which will find works very well

some flashes have a feedback sensor on them, you may want to have the little sensor window aimed at your subject when shooting.

It,s about 1kg - 2lb with camera and flash , but I have found tha by changing the postion of the handle can help with holding time

Well, looks quite cool, and ain't that expensive, if compared with one that you buy in the shop, but a cake tin, brilliant!
