  • there is no such thing as words.... or communication, there are some feelings, there are some gifts that transcend it all , love is the way we reach things, peace is god

  • This song is about a man lost in the rest of the world but, still has faith in the woman he loves.

  • Uh, how about a little music theory on the tune, wise ones?

  • Religion is what the rich and powerful use to keep the poor and common people from revolting and overthrowing their authority.

  • religion is merely a belief system....nothing more or less...we make of it whatever we want

  • sterlingholobyte, deboyden I like what you guys are saying adn I agree with you both

  • one question for any former/current Catholics out there: what's up with the spinning wheel of crucifixes? I'm sincerely curious about that. It's at once beautiful and haunting...:)

  • As a person who was brought up Catholic and now goes to a Baptist church, but who has nothing against Catholics, I think that the spinning crucifix wheel is part of that "churchology" thing that I think Sting was talking about in the song. I have never seen a wheel of crucifixes in all my years of being Catholic. They don't use them, in other words.

  • I'm ambivalent toward this song. On the one hand it is one of Sting's best pop songs; on the other, I wish he'd stop riding the fence when it comes to matters of faith and spirit. Yes, I agree he ought to chuck the hypocrisy inherent in organized religion (in Sting's case--Catholicism) but why can't he be brave and differentiate between that and the person/deity of Jesus--just Jesus--untainted by the religious system that has grown up around him these past 2000 years? Jesus is still The Man!

  • I think that is what he is saying in this video; like when he says "...lost my belief in the holy church", I think he is referring to the "churchology" that people can get caught up in, and Jesus(God) gets lost in there somewhere. Of course he never says Jesus, but you can see the references to faith in God. I mean, look at the Joan of Arc symbolism, and she didn't lose her faith, even while being killed for it.

  • ..odd.

  • viajens a idade média junto com esta música?THE BEST

  • De las mejores canciones de Sting. (Para mi gusto).

  • very strange movie

  • love the words, when theres no faith............

  • yeah, again thanks sting. bb

  • very, very clever musician...

  • is that glastonbury tor?

  • Yes it is.

  • 'holy church' he must be Catholic.

  • "I never saw a miracle of science, that didn't go from a blessing to a curse." Man...that is so true in many ways. Heh, as a post on Youtube.....I suppose I could be outside doing some exercise instead. Sigh.....

  • Sting likes to put mysterious people and fantasy characters on his videos. This video gives me some kind of deep homesickness...

  • this song is awesome

  • You know something... the messages expressed in this song are very contemporary with younger generations... so many people these days seem so apathetic about what to believe in or what not to believe in; I'm the same way too. When everything in society seems to fail to meet the public's expectations I get mad skeptical and start to loose faith in the system that created it... It becomes difficult to know what choices to make. IDK, just what I think personally.

  • Wow....nice observation and comment :)

  • Choose to be f.ucking outstandingly brilliant.

    F.uck all else.

    Meet your destiny.

    That's all.

Nothing to it but to do it.

  • i am with u on this comment, i am losing so much faith in the society around me that even a small choice can become a drama...i dont lose faith in me cos i know who i am but the time we live is redicolously embaressing.Internet killed man's ability to interact in public

  • I love this song to the heart of my being. Time for a "re-do" with Sting and some younger person. Don't you think this would make a good rap backgound which would take it up to the 2009's and urban it up a bit for this generation of kids. Just change the underlying rhythm and speed it up. Would be groovy. Come on Sting!!! _Cory RR

  • sting is the man!

  • i remember the popup video for this one being especially interesting...explaining things in the video etc

  • I do too Love how artistic this video is. Especially his "Brand New Day" video. I don't understand why people hate that video so much. O Well, God Bless Sting and the haters.

  • Mr. Sting ---- cosmic

  • The video reveals the Sting's misticism!

Il video rivela il misticismo di Sting!

  • lovely song!!

  • I listen to this song almost every day! Love how artistic the video is.. people don't put that much thought into their music videos anymore

  • It's such a shame isn't it? The quality of music has went downhill and has been downhill for a while now. It needs to walking up the mountain again. Metaphorically speaking that is.

  • beautiful......................<3

  • best best best BEST song!!!!!!! love it! I'm so happy that I can't stop crying!

  • What a stellar song. Sting is a gifted composer.

  • He really is. This song gives such a euphoric and existential feeling. I love it. Way too many words to describe how i feel when i listen to this masterpiece.

  • wonderful

my biggest wish is: the police together again!!!!

  • it's hard to put something deep in a song and still make it sound so nice and sting is a master in it. say what you want but i have a big respect for this guy.

  • splendid song and magnificent video. I don't knwo why, but it recalls me a theme of the video game mario 64 (nintendo 64) :-)

  • religion and racism... both two things that have no place in a decent, peaceful world. shame that there will never be such a world as long as humans exist.

  • Yeah, I know. As long as humans exist. It's sad.

  • i believe he is talking about faith in someone he loves over against say organized religion, brilliant actually

  • no one is impressed by this message. no one is impressed by the fact that ur being racist. please erase this comment and please find something better to do with ur time.

  • your*

  • There is no God....... but One. (La ilaha illallahu)

  • If I ever lost my faith in you, thered be nothing left for me to do :)

  • Yeah... what an amazing musician. Really sophisticated songwriting, that sounds completely natural.

  • This is one of my favourite Sting's songs... I had never seen the video since now, it's amazing and so suggestive... Sting is one of the most remarkable pop artists of the 20th century, and the musicians he worked with are definitevely the best in the world!

  • "They all look like Game Show Host's to me"...........what-a-great lyric/line.

  • damn..! i don;t underatnbd the video. wht is the song all about..?! is is about God, religion..?

  • The song is about one keeping faith in something that is more important to that person than anything else despite losing faith in everything else. The actual thing that the faith is kept in is up to the reader to decide, whether it be a higher power, a love interest, an ideology, etc.

  • Exactly. It's a powerful message of love and trust in something or someone beyond oneself.

  • deadlyfoo1

there is only one GOD. The GOD of LOVE. The GOD that I believe in loves everyone even the ones who commit evil. There is no hell or devil. There is only freewill. You have the freewill to chose what you think is right or wrong. In the end it is up to the individual to make the righteous choice. Religion and men are full of shit. Put your heart and decisions on the line. 'It is better to die standing then to live on your knees." --Emiliano Zapata-- I chose this motto to live by.

  • The Sun "Sol"

  • 99.999% of politicians are one notch below child molesters. Religion has nothing to do with GOD. Religion purpose is to keep people stupid and blind. "It is better to die standing then live on my knees', -- Emiliano Zapata "There are 3 things you should believe in God, Family and Hard Work". -- Vince Lombardi Both men didn't believe in politicians nor religions. They had the right ideas.

  • which GOD do you believe in forfaka?

  • This songs reminds me how I got my faith in God, I have no faith in the church, politians now if he added the Holy book or just the bible then it would be complete because I believe in only God nothing else but that.

  • Man I remember this song, and boy does it bring back memories! I was 7 or 8 years old when I first heard this song. I still love it!

  • If i ever lose my faith in you Michael...really there would be nothing let for me to do...i miss you my angel, my endless love

  • I wonder who is that he is afraid to loose faith in....Very intriguing video for those who see.

  • i dont sure if he talk about a person of about god it self. Maybe his wife is a chance, but i think is more like a spiritual song... No faith on religion, politicians, cience, but still believe in someone...

  • Sting is such a sexy SOB!

  • Even if you don't have a church to find that missing piece of food for your soul, and even if you haven't discovered the mighty lord Jesus in yourself, you can feel what the soul search for the mighty God feels like in this song. Very deep words.

  • deep words.. but not meant like that.

  • he is such an amazing singer! He has such a great voice! hes just amazing. onee of my favourite singers of al time

  • If you want political, Murder by Numbers is better. If you want real accuracy though, Cult of Personality by Living Color is probably more accurate for either party.

  • what are u the nostalgic critic? let the kids think what they want.

  • You must be an old hack from the 70s!

  • Obama King of the gameshow hosts.....

  • fuck obama

  • muy buena cancion pero no hay nada como sting en the police aunque lo respeto aqui en su etapa solista

  • All the vaccines in the world won't do you any good. The earth will rid itself of the human parasite soon enough. Unless they nuke themselves first. lol

  • "unless they nuke themselves first"

    which they probably will

  • gotta remember dates man pooter was inspired by this lol

  • Yep, gotta watch out for that Hairy Pooter guy, he hangs with a rough crowd

  • Is that like Hairy Poker and the Sorcerers Slut movies?

  • Whoa -- you mean there's a movie named THAT?

Sounds like I gotta you know check into that movie title

Thanx, I'd shake yer hand, but... you don't know where my hand has been...

  • Wrong, pal. Homo sapiens evolutes for over 20.000 years. If imbecility and moronic attitude towards reality caused somehow your genes to be removed from the general gene pool, there wouldn't be any idiots left, and we would all be geniuses at this day.

  • what? our progress and ability to bend nature to our will has messed up the process of natural selection, and now those who would normally be too stupid or weak to live have a good chance to live a full life due to our technology. what i meant was that the anti-vaccination morons will eventually be removed from the gene pool by natural selection because they will be getting diseases that everyone else will be immune to due to their idiotic decision to not get vaccinated.

  • haha, the anti-vaccination idiots will eventually remove themselves from the gene pool by their own stupidity. evolution at work!

  • i really like the version he did with chris botti

  • so fucking true

  • 1:38 is very true. I've lost my faith in them.

  • Me too!

  • Aganst vaccination ! My god welcome to the middle ages! PS electricity sucks too!

  • No offense but if electricity sucked so bad you wouldn't be jammin to this tune

  • If you actually researched it, you'd find there's nothing backwards about refusing vaccines. A neurologist has studied the effects of vaccines and has photos of how the brain becomes inflamed as the immune system is overwhelmed by the vaccines.

  • Gord,s The Teacher...N

  • LEAVE YOUR *&%$# GODS OUT OF THE MUSIC!

  • He is free to invoke God if he wants:)

Sting was spiritual and respected different religions and practiced yoga.

  • I got taken back.... actually we never left. +

  • Damn I wish God can just take me back to the 90s.

  • Saw the Police twice in the80s. They may not have gotten along but their concerts were incredible. For Zenyatta Mondatta the entire audience was dancing. 3 major talents. Sting with his song writing, Andy not happy his sound after his stint with Animals went to school & studied his craft & Copeland is a phenom of a drummer/percussionist.

  • Sting is an inspiration.

  • this is a good song, reminds me of when i was a kid back in the 90's

  • By the time I finished college, the way my friends and I looked at things, this really speaks alot to the soul.

  • "You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV."

    I don't blame you, Sting. I don't blame you.

  • "I haven't seen no mericale of science that didn't go from a blessing to a curse." - Yeah, like autism causing vaccines and geneticly modified food.

  • Comment removed

  • are you sure you understand the point he's making ?

  • Oh, woo thumbs down is gonna get my kid vaccinated

  • great song! I MISSED POLICE CONCERT:((

  • according to an old vh1 popup video episode.. when he is fighting the waves with the sword he is trying to portray a fairy tale king who thought he was powerful enough to defeat the tide. but i cant remember what the kings name was or the origin of the story. anyone else know? would appreciate it greatly if you told me!

  • I can answer this for you. Its a bit of history tbh. Ancient Celtic tribes mostly those living in what is nor Normandy were sometimes known to fight the ocean. That is they would see the Sea as a real foe and hack and slash at it hundreds of warriors. Some got lost into the fervor and would actually drown. Stories reached the Ancient Greeks of a people that challenged the ocean outright and this scared the hell out of them. It's apart of Celtic lore and myth even Pete and Pete parodied it ...

  • Thank you :) you have better references than i do because i could not find ANY kind of info on that! but then again i was looking for mythology not actual events.

  • im confused about life and death and the meaning of my own existance....any help, by th eway awesome song

  • Take dimethyltryptamine, and you will discover all of the answers to questions of your own existence and of the universe, and you will be re-born.
