Having seen the "reunion" tour. . . I have to say that this is not the best VH. I don't know of a bass player who strums as though it were a six string not bashing the kid but is he even playing. The back ground harmony is off. To be expected. . . Ed is missing a good portion of his tongue now and let's face it MA was the harmony in VH. In my opinion it was a huge mistake bringing Wolfgang into the band. I have a son the same age and would love love to jam with him but not at the expense of a band like Van Halen. He only cheapened it with his lack of experience. If it's not Michael Anthony then get another bass player who is huge in the business. Wolfgang was below average at best. When i first heard that M A was asked to leave and Wolfie was the bass player I refused to cough up the ticket money for this shit.
I was at this concert, Make no mistakes, this audio does not give the band justice. He was spot on his vocals but the sound man jucied up the wrong mic......he was going for Roth's mic and hit the wrong one.....ever notice when david was talking quietly, the sound man freaked to bring up his mic and hit the wrong channel......dont blame me, I call it the way I hear it.
Van Halen ROCKED with Roth! With Van Hagar they were basically POP MUSIC "girly" crap. Roth has always been a nice guy. Eddie & Alex have always talked shit about Roth, then Hagar, then Micheal Anthony and are basically a couple of assholes. Eddie & Alex should feel privledged and lucky Dave decided to reunite with them after all the crap talk they said about him. Without Roth, Van Halen lost their HARD ROCK sound and wrote a bunch of way average mediocre crap girly tunes imo.

These guys should have packed it in after "Balance" David Lee Roth can't sing worth crap, he's cocky, arrogant, and not even a good show man. Back in the 70's & 80's he was usually blitzed out of his skull. Eddie was the only real talent, dynamic, and showman of this band.

I like VH with Roth. Not only loved his singing but also his showmanship. I didn't like Hagar in the band. I grew up with Roth in VH so that is what makes the band so awesome!
I saw them live in seattle for their "Fair Warning" tour. Back in 1981 I believe. The band playing here is not the same show I saw then by any means. THAT show in '81 rocked. This puts me to sleep.
The energy is certainly not there like it used to be. The sound is not as pure. It sounds more like shrieking metal than the jams that EVH can certainly do! Those 5150's and the frankie were a perfect tool for EVH to truly show his skils.
I don't know what is going to happen next but vintage VH is where is was at!
i think that eddie should use his frankie (or did it break? i dont kno sry) but the new guitars just dont have a great tone like the frankenstrat did.
I was holding out hope that the 5153 amp would the shit but it sounds only marginally better than the earlier versions of the 5150. Compare this track with earlier live recordings of this tune. The guitar tone pales in comparison. I don't really get it. His earlier stuff was so much cleaner. Eddie benefits from a cleaner bigger tone. You can hear more intricacies. It just comes across so much better.
I kind of disagree. I am a big early VH fan, and I do think they should have reunited with the original band, but under the circumstances, I think the kid did a good job. If EVH was your dad and wanted you on tour, what would you do? I think the kid is doing fine. I just hope they record one or two more great tracks before one of them dies.

Here's a basic comparison of the 2 versions of Van Halen:

2) Roth Van Halen = smokin' hot American rock band that rose to prominence with a powerful combination of fun & furious songs, blazing concerts and led by a superior acrobatic frontman and ass-kicking guitarist who changed the world

In my opinion it was a huge mistake bringing Wolfgang into the band. I have a son the same age and would love love to jam with him but not at the expense of a band like Van Halen. He only cheapened it with his lack of experience. If it's not Michael Anthony then get another bass player who is huge in the business. Wolfgang was below average at best. When i first heard that M A was asked to leave and Wolfie was the bass player I refused to cough up the ticket money for this shit.

I was at this concert, Make no mistakes, this audio does not give the band justice. He was spot on his vocals but the sound man jucied up the wrong mic......he was going for Roth's mic and hit the wrong one.....ever notice when david was talking quietly, the sound man freaked to bring up his mic and hit the wrong channel......dont blame me, I call it the way I hear it.

Van Halen ROCKED with Roth! With Van Hagar they were basically POP MUSIC "girly" crap. Roth has always been a nice guy. Eddie & Alex have always talked shit about Roth, then Hagar, then Micheal Anthony and are basically a couple of assholes. Eddie & Alex should feel privledged and lucky Dave decided to reunite with them after all the crap talk they said about him. Without Roth, Van Halen lost their HARD ROCK sound and wrote a bunch of way average mediocre crap girly tunes imo.

These guys should have packed it in after "Balance" David Lee Roth can't sing worth crap, he's cocky, arrogant, and not even a good show man. Back in the 70's & 80's he was usually blitzed out of his skull. Eddie was the only real talent, dynamic, and showman of this band.

Yeah, well isn't it obvious that eddie will do anything for money, INCLUDING going on tour with horrible sound and David Lee Idiot on 'vocals', lead talker or whatever you want to call it. Not to mention Wolfgang replacing Mikey. Background vocals were the signature compliment to eddies guitar, Now they should open for Sigfried and Roy in Vegas. I have seen VH 7 times and WAS a huge fan. Sammy and Mike together blow the shit out of the current VH. So go sit on your hockey stick like before.

I saw them live in seattle for their "Fair Warning" tour. Back in 1981 I believe. The band playing here is not the same show I saw then by any means. THAT show in '81 rocked. This puts me to sleep.

The energy is certainly not there like it used to be. The sound is not as pure. It sounds more like shrieking metal than the jams that EVH can certainly do! Those 5150's and the frankie were a perfect tool for EVH to truly show his skils.
I don't know what is going to happen next but vintage VH is where is was at!

I was holding out hope that the 5153 amp would the shit but it sounds only marginally better than the earlier versions of the 5150. Compare this track with earlier live recordings of this tune. The guitar tone pales in comparison. I don't really get it. His earlier stuff was so much cleaner. Eddie benefits from a cleaner bigger tone. You can hear more intricacies. It just comes across so much better.

I kind of disagree. I am a big early VH fan, and I do think they should have reunited with the original band, but under the circumstances, I think the kid did a good job. If EVH was your dad and wanted you on tour, what would you do? I think the kid is doing fine. I just hope they record one or two more great tracks before one of them dies.

Here's a basic comparison of the 2 versions of Van Halen:
1) Van Hagar = corporate pop rock band best known for radio-friendly love ballads appealing to soccer Moms and led by a flabby tequila salesman with mediocre vocal talent and sub-par lyrical abilities
2) Roth Van Halen = smokin' hot American rock band that rose to prominence with a powerful combination of fun & furious songs, blazing concerts and led by a superior acrobatic frontman and ass-kicking guitarist who changed the world

Clearly the Hagar days had a more commercial appeal than the Roth days. But admit it "Dance the Night Away" and "Jump" was a poppish tune. As far as the Hagar days, if you listened to thier not so radio friendly songs you will (hopefully) agree that VH with Hagar was a harder rockin' band than the DLR days.
As an aside... Hagar was and still is the better singer.

Usually when bands record, the vocals are done last... so Dave's singing has NO effect on Eddie's playing... Eddie doesn't need any "help" to enhance his playing. If you ever saw Van Halen concert with Sammy, it's MUCH better than DLR in concert. I love OLD Van Halen, but Sammy rocks better than Dave, in live performances at least.

I saw VH with Spammy in 2004, and you know what I saw? I saw a fat, no-talent hack with poodle hair who spent more time onstage talking about his tequila and signing autographs than singing songs. I wanted my money back after that show. When I saw VH with Dave a couple months ago, I saw a rock frontman who totally loved being in Van Halen and gave the audience 110% entertainment value. Yes, Dave has a huge influence on Eddie's playing, and Spambo almost destroyed Van Halen with his gayness.

That's all your opinion, but the FACT is Eddie got rid of Dave because Dave didn't want Eddie doing any "wild guitar stuff" that took the attention away from himself.... so the fact is Dave wanted Eddie to back off on his amazing guitar abilities.... Toronto loves Roth Halen! Seriously, I never met so many Roth-era Van Halen fans as I do there....and I travel all over the world. It's nice to know there are classy people like Torontoans out there.

Roth has retired his high-kicking routine about 20 years ago.
Let´s get real - Dave is a better singer yet it is great to listen to Van Halen early material sang by the original singer.

Eddie still kicks ass, but I miss Mike. And Hell Yeah! Diamond fuckin David Lee Roth is back, but it still ain't the same. He can't do some of the shit he used to. He's gettin' old. Wolfgang's a damn good bassist for a 16 year old.

I agree on some points Tank. Obviously he cant do some of the stuff he used to. Dave that is, but Dave was always terrible live even in his prime. He didn't care about singing back then. He was a rockstar and that's all he cared about.
Wolfgang? Gimme a break, we were all led to believe that he was the next Jaco Pastorious... well hardly! Mike Anthony deserved to be with this tour. Eddie's my guitar hero, but who the hell doesn't get along with any alcoholic meth-head?

Yes, Dave isn't as good now as he was 20 years ago. But people complaining apparently haven't heard about age. You try singing the same you did 20 years ago.
