xperia is not slow... i own one and i'm happy to use it.. changing the panel is slow ( 2-3 sec ) but you won't change the panel often.. i bet you will only stick to one favourite panel.. the rest of the program runs quite fast.. for me its faster than any htc phone i used.. try search for other xperia review.. peace..

windows mobile....Point being there are a lot more proprietry app's and more room for self development. and android,ableit in its infancy I'd sooner buy a G1 than any symbian os based handset rigt now.....

Of course these are just my opinions, but back to my original point the N97 looks the part..and as you quite rightly say, we'll have to see whether its too late, too bloated or too crap!!??

In your opinion are you disapointed that Nokia have stuck with a symbian OS with the new N97, and not embraced a more flexible upto date os for example the andriod os or even windows mobile 6.5?....I have steered well clear of symbian ohoes for the last 3 years......would it be worth going back??...we'll see.

No, S60 5th Edition is a good choice. Jury's still out on what they're doing with it though 8-)

The nokia phones have a few weakness. 1. Its slow sometimes. 2. People are so dumb that they dont really now what their phone is capable. They dont wanna get to now their phone fully. Maybe like 20% symbian owners put custom apps to their phone. I have n95 8gb and its great!

N97 is smartphone that look like what Nokia want it to look like. Xperia X1 is Pocket PC what u can make look like what ever u want, like iPhone if u want.

Well i am having nokia E90 for 1.5 years, and is just been so nice to use. But there are things boothering me with Symbian, i wanted WM even then, but the hardware was more important.

So now all that remeins for me to change E90 for X1 is the X1's keyboard. I would realy like to hear a direct comparison regarding speed typing, like 2 times slower, noticabl slower, or only slightly slower?

I am a bed-bound paraplegic living in a nursing home. I also have poor sight. I cannot get to the shops to check out the latest phones and rely on reviews like yours to help me decide which phone to go for. Blackberry seem to be my best option as I can set the font large. Phones seem to be getting smaller with no regard to peoples eyesight. Why don't you do some research and you might find that the only one who does'nt care about fonts is you..

Why didn't you SAY that you were looking for LARGER fonts? I thought you were after changing the fonts as a gimmick, like most people who ask the question.

Most recent S60 phones have options in the Settings to set all fonts as large, though you'll still run into problems in, for example, the web browser. The iPhone is the best though in this department...

The fonts? Who the dickens cares about the FONTS!!! Seriously. I've never changed the fonts on any handheld in the last 15 years. As long as they're legible and clear etc, I always recommend going with the default. Changing them is usually asking for graphics glitches further down the line....

Hi Steve, This is the first of your video's I have seen. A good all round review without getting boring! I'm getting my Xperia next week and I can't wait. I had a Nokia N73 and I hope this phone will be as good as that was. I have never used a WinMo phone so it'll be an interesting learning curve. Here hoping some software updates sort any problems on the X1.

again thx for the reply eariler, and great suggestion 5800, however there r also sum cell i also very intrested in, the samsung omnia i900 n the Samsung Eternity a867. all of them seems equally great but they all hav their difference, 5800 has faster AGPS but slower cpu, still fast enough with its own OS, as for samsung slower GPS faster CPU and window 6.1

i like them all which is better? don't care about the screen size 3.6 inch is good enough

Well, the Nokia 5800 looks good in principle, I'll have a production unit here very soon. In the meantime, the N95 8GB and N82 are still awesome devices.... And yes, the iPhone is super in its own way too.... 8-)

Yes, I had to omit quite a bit in order to get the show down to length.... The thing about the X1 that's unique is the Panels interface though, so I majored on that. Video and audio is as good as usual with Windows Mobile, with the addition of a flash media front-end from S-E. Yes, the 3.5mm jack's good to see too. I'd have made the entire show just the X1 rveiew, but then non-WM fans (like you) would have been equally unhappy 8-)
