What does the blonde girl dressed like Alice in Wonderland signify? I noticed that she seems to be an innocent victim trapped among the madness and that she's the only one who seems to escape. The whole video seems like an incredibly deranged episode of Doctor Who.
I guess a lot of it has to do with the social changes of the 1960's as instead of creating a more civilised society a promiscuous one was created instead and issues like abortion is a result of this. Basically what he's saying is 'for once in your fucking lives THINK about your actions!' or you'll end up with an unwanted pregnancy.
YOURE FREE to have an opinion or bad attitude but i dont agree with you about this song. this is such a wierdly conservative old-fogey song. so sexist, admonishing us ladies to keep our legs crossed in interest of preserving our 'rep ( 'i don't give a damn about my bad reputation!'). silly, silly unfuckable johnny! i agree w/ precautions part, but if he doesn't care for a hearty shag, well, that's his problem!
Your perception of this song is way off. "conservative old-fogey song" from John Lydon? Listen again and again and understand that it is a rip on neo-con nonsense.
John is FAR from Conservative. And yet not a fanatic Liberal. He is far more about reason rather than joining a team. The song is about the problems that come of promiscuity in general. A cautionary tale. "Use your heads ya twats!" because there are often very serious results. Funny how people need to get political about such a social thing.
@PutzFuker God, I never thought I'd see the day when anything even remotely associated with John Lydon, let alone his very music, would or could be considered anything even slightly conservative. I think moonlily1's interpretation must be way off, with all due respect.

@PutzFuker ha ha ha ha hes just a MUSICIAN of course he doesnt want to give all his money to the music business or a nonprofit. YOURE OUT OF YOUR MIND!
@PutzFuker - Its a song about common sense and not relying on medicine to help you, as they see you as a cash cow and don't care about the consequences...or your mental health.
@moonlily1 I think it's a commentary about how sex is part of the commodification of culture and not an abstinence song. He just says sex "without precautions" will potentially cause you to get diseases and need abortions. That's just common sense.
PIL was way more musically complex than the Pistols. The Pistols were the right for the time, but I like the stuff he did after. I'd love to see him do some more PIL stuff.

Yeah, you all think this is a brilliant track but would you still think it so fantastic if it was some no-name nobody singing the same song?? Think about it. Alot of other people did and still do. You can do much better Rotten. Get it together and stop living off of the ghost of the Sex Pistols.
This is a tame thing. He has done well to reinvent himself as a loveable Steptoe, see recent reviews of Sex Pistols live videos, as per the usual press. Although things went pear shaped after 1981, when it all got a bit disappointing, I do recall the 1986 album, called album, being good in bits. Especially the last track, which was very doomladen, otherwordly, and ultimately uplifting. Because it has a guitar bit on it which defies belief. Especially if you got into punk in 1976, like I did.
yes i would because lydon isnt even my fave band member and also your saying lydon is all that matters- you are wrong
people would still listen to it because the music is great and i like how when levene and wobble was in it the sharp guitar sound and the deep bass. And your saying living off the ghost of the sex pistols- what if people just like pil or lydon so what.. to be honest its nothing to do with the sex pistols, there nothing like the sex pistols anyway so its technically not evenaghost
Oh, you need to get over self track8fodderstompf. I was talking about Lydon living off the memory of the Sex Pistols. I'm glad to hear that you are a PIL fan, great. its a special recipe of attractiveness, intensity (did I say intensity?), braininess, artistic creativity, and natural style, refrigerate until it reaches a cool rebellion, sprinkle with a sense of humor, then bake on low for 51 years
That´s true!! I don´t know, but to me he´s so attractive, specially as you´ve said in the Pistols days, and I think that with the time he became, we could say more sophisticated, and that also happened with his music. But who cares!!! He´s brilliant, he´s a genius, and if he has no problem with his looks, why would I? What I´m interested in is his music, so whatever...but I still think he´s really attractive!!! I love you John!!! Man, why did I arrive too late...
I love John Lydon! He might not be conventionally attractive, but there's a certain something about him that makes him so attractive to me, esp. in the Pistols days! In addition, he's a fascinating person, extremely brilliant, sarcastic, and funny as hell!
Nothing bad for an Irish guy born in London at the same daywhen his immigrant parents came to England. Despite -- and even because? -- the meningitis, the total ammnesya at his 8, the curve on his spine, the lack of musical education... HE IS THE BEST!
Love him or hate him: this man broke the Music History in 2 parts: Before and After the Punk. HE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE ENTIRE POP CULTURE HISTORY. He changed the course of rivers of thoughts. The rest is the rest.
I completely agree with you! Those who can't appreciate his genius just don't have the capacity to understand his place in history! The man is and will always be a legend! Love him or hate him, you've gotta admit that!
I agree in every way. He is talented for sure, and I personally think he's very attractive. I don't think we're in the majority though (which is usually a good thing!)
why is no one talking about their upcoming album? my god i cant wait!! been like 20 years

There was a film called something like "my evil friend fred" and the guy in this vid looks very much like the main char of the film.

This song is amazing, I like everything about it, even the girl that groans near the start, man, that gets me going, mmm, nice. body give me. <3

its a special recipe of attractiveness, intensity (did I say intensity?), braininess, artistic creativity, and natural style, refrigerate until it reaches a cool rebellion, sprinkle with a sense of humor, then bake on low for 51 years
somnambulistyes 4 years ago 2
That´s true!! I don´t know, but to me he´s so attractive, specially as you´ve said in the Pistols days, and I think that with the time he became, we could say more sophisticated, and that also happened with his music. But who cares!!! He´s brilliant, he´s a genius, and if he has no problem with his looks, why would I? What I´m interested in is his music, so whatever...but I still think he´s really attractive!!! I love you John!!! Man, why did I arrive too late...
johannarotten88 4 years ago
I love John Lydon! He might not be conventionally attractive, but there's a certain something about him that makes him so attractive to me, esp. in the Pistols days! In addition, he's a fascinating person, extremely brilliant, sarcastic, and funny as hell!
FilthAndTheFury77 4 years ago
Biting satire indeed. John is a living icon and it has all been said already really.
This is not one of PIL's greatest moments to be honest. But listenable.
And to those who are creeped out by John in this vid, watch Death Disco or Religion :-)

I disagree.
cajjer 4 years ago
I completely agree with you! Those who can't appreciate his genius just don't have the capacity to understand his place in history! The man is and will always be a legend! Love him or hate him, you've gotta admit that!

pretty much all of the PIL albums after Flowers of Romance stink, but there are certainly some scattered great tracks, and this is one of them

Ah, the MTV generation, to whom an artist's physical appearance matters more than their musical or lyrical talents. :/

Agree with you. He is amazingly talented, smart and gorgeous. Even though he thinks of himself as "hideously ugly".

here's another part of that minority! John is so talented, and pretty good looking as well!

The McGeoch - Dias - Edmonds - Smith lineup of PiL is criminally ignored. My favorite lineup of PiL.
