  • Clail is a legend!

  • fuckin awesome tune!

  • one of the foremost baggy/house anthems of the early 90s

  • Let the carnival begin....!

  • I hated those early nineties baseball caps, they look so dated now.

  • gary was fantastic

  • This guy used to wander the pubs of Penzance about 8 years ago, being thrown out of pub after pub for being a total bastard, groping women and telling everyone about his amazing mansion that he lost. He was childish and spoilt and abusive to anyone he stood next to long enough. Listening to this song I can't help but think what an almighty hypocrite he was to sing it. Utter loser.

  • @scarrenboy Is that true? Shows you never can tell with some people/

  • @JasonC1782 fraid so. I was told it was only when he was under the influence, but since he was always under the influence any time I saw him in any of the pubs, he was always being obnoxious. Big ego.

  • Brilliant stuff.

  • Does anyone rememeber the album?

  • Playing on my old skool radio atm.

  • pellay lana

  • I once sang this to a vicars goat in the middle of the night off my head on E, with a big fire in the background and a couch around a campfire.

  • darandandandarandaran... cool!

  • "let the carnival begin..." I say this all of the time and nobody but the cool people even know what I am talking about... " There is something wring with HUMAN NATURE. " No shit, you ain't kidding. It's worse now. Worse than ever.........

  • I saw Gary Clail & On-U Sound play live in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes in 1991. Awesome times..........

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • I saw Gary Clail & On-U Sound play live in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes in 1991. Awesome times..........

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • 5 people have something wrong to do with human nature

  • brilliant song!

  • fucking brilliant!!!! mad as arseholes song, you cannot fault it

  • let the carnival begin.................

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but he says all that bad stuff then goes:

"There's something GOOD with human nature"

Is that correct? What a pessimist if so!

  • @Foebane72 Yes you are incorrect ,he says "there's something WRONG with human nature"

  • @tomfy1979 Maybe, but there's no denying the faggot in drag saying "let the carnival begin" - WTF is this, a gay song?

  • @Foebane72 Chill young'un, chill.

Being gay isn't all that bad.

  • @Foebane72 Who cares what type of song it is? It's a great song and the drag queen's voice fits perfectly with the rest of the song!

  • luv this track.........

  • So many memories of dancing through dry ice back in the day. Freakin love this tune!

  • i loved his music u cant get it anywhere now :(

  • @henryhaven Go to discogs.com you can find anything there!

  • hahaha good song but i had forgot about the queen they put in it lmao so funny

  • damn brilliant song...took me years to find it

  • @Clail88....OMG I hope ur not kidding!!! If ur not, that is so awesome!! Those of us X gen'ers out there STILL love him and his stuff is as true now as it was then. Has he ever thought of doing a remake for the New millenium???

  • wow, top tune! took some finding though!

  • I remeber this tune on release, but I still can't figure out what the hell is wrong with this weirdo.

  • love it. love it. have done for 19 year's, will do till i die.

  • So glad this was posted, I've been trying to find this song for YEARS!!! I remember having this freshman year of college, one of the most positive dance jams created.

  • Quality. Saw him perform this at Crystal Palace Bowl...supporting Level 42!

  • who's the fat spade dressed up like a bird?

  • @porkandbeans1991

    Why? You fancy him?

Either way with your attitude you should listen closely to the lyrics and hang your head in shame. There is clearly something wrong with you. But you could easily solve that with suicide.

  • @GustavMeyrink eat my toilet filth

  • @porkandbeans1991

    Spoken like a true moron.

  • what is it in the nature of man that makes a bloke steal women's panties off washing lines? it troubles me....

  • @porkandbeans1991

    That made my fucking day!

  • Let the carnival begin...

  • i know clail!

  • @MrBorntoend Is he a cunt?

  • What's he doing now? My dad used to know him years ago near Brighton.

  • Really? Brighton's my old 'foam town', where they make good beer...

  • This is one of those "novel" hits that nag you for fucking years to dip back into it!

    It's great!

  • No. The "Let the carnival begin" bit is Alan Pillay/Lana Pellay. Star of the movie "Eat The Rich" and several of the "Comic Strip Presents..."with French & Saunders, the Young Ones & Lily Allen's Dad Keith Gino - Full Story & Pics).

    Pistol in my pocket indeed!....

  • @JonnyThursday5 One of those unexpected guest vocals that are not only a surprise, but work very well. See also Zodiac Mindwarp / Magenta Devine and Thomas Dolby / Magnus Pyke.

Hard to believe he's fifty now!

  • not heard this since it came out and i'm amazed that i can remember the lyrics!

  • I didn't realize there was a video to this song. At the time, I thought Pete Burns (Dead or Alive) was singing the "let the carnival begin..." chorus. I've never seen any documentation of it, though.

  • classic! brings back memories

  • Great Music:

  • the song has a moral, if you look at the lyric's

  • xxch: the song has a moral, if you look at the lyric's

    (no apostrophe required)

  • crap then and crap now

I'm sure i saw this tit working in carphone warehouse last week

  • what a tit! brigton faggot

  • sorry better correct that before the brighton faggot pulls me up on the spelling sorry brightonduder your a tit, i said tit because you can probaly spell that lol

  • It's 'you're a tit' rather than 'your a tit'.

and you spelt 'probably' incorrectly. :-)

  • slam 3d

  • This was the first single I ever bought, and I had a huge crush on Gary! I suddenly feel very old.

  • Now this is what I call a tune! Hvaen't heard this for years and years. But thanks to You tube i've relocated it! One of my favourite songs of all time! Leth the carnival begin!

  • This is my Uncle!!!! :)

  • @Clail88

Gary Clail is KING. Big up!

  • This is the kind of perfect dance track that gets younger and fresher through the years. Timeless tune!

  • big up to on u-sound crew....adrian sheerwood, keith le blanc, african head charge....

  • First heard this on "Alternative" airwaves

and immediately made a beeline for the

12" bins. This single sounded more like

it had been given the remix treatment

by Londonbeat [remember "I've Been Thinking About You"?] than the usual

dubby Gazza On-U Soundclash. Not to

malign his other work; it's just that I was

blown away by Gary's righteous lyrical

indignation set to such an inspired groove. Way better than the "Faceless

    Techno Bollocks" of the era.

  • I love this tune and gary was cute.

  • love this i was a small girl when this was released sorta one of the best dance tunes of the early 90's (and klf) ...shame the rest of gary's songs suck =D 5 stars

  • Gary Clail is playing live in Bristol on 12th September at the Croft!! He should be on from midnight until 2am...can't wait!

  • To tonysliz - please say hi to Gary and say thank you for some magnificent music. Beef and Human Nature are total classics. This video is pretty good too.

  • No, it makes you show off ;)

  • I now work with Gary Clail, does that make me cool by default????

  • Oh my god, not heard this for years.. Memories flooding back.. Happy days!

  • uplifting feelgood classic , fantastic lyrics, stunning atmospheric music. i loved it the first time i heard it. nothing has changed. A TRUE CLASSIC

  • makes me pround to be from bristol

  • Absolutely amazing tune...love it

  • Powerful and brilliant song.

  • Fantastic -- It´s Great Music !!!

  • Love this song. Think this was one of my last purchases on the old 12" vinyl single format. Might even still have it somewhere lol. Brings back the memories of my great teenage years.

  • In my top 10 hits ever. Genius stuff.

  • Who was the obviously gay guy twirling, dressed up like an arab princess saying, "Let the carnvial begin..." He was great! Was that Clail in some sort of drag?

  • Alan/Alanah Pillay. Did a lot of Comic Strip stuff in the 80's.Easily searchable on google (although his/her claim to be 30 is funny.Closer to 50!)

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

  • fantastic track,a great vibe, one of my faves from 90s

  • Thankyou for posting

  • I can't finf the lyrics of this song

  • Still available! Fight the power!

  • not heard this for years, forgot who sang it then hurrah, some 18 years later its on you tube!great stuff!

  • this is BRIGHTON.

    takes me back.

    Good times thanks Gary.

    oh to be a Saltdeaner.

  • very good i heard him first on the stonehenge festival a revelation

  • Hyper...in a way I agree with you, Gary has much more quality in the fact of social awareness. I apologise for the comparison....I kinda like both, must admit did not get into Gary in the 90's.

  • A timeless message as relevant now as it was years ago . classic song.

  • Whats wrong with saying Robbie before Robbie?

  • Gary Clail is nothing like Robbie Williams! Clail's music was gritty social commentary, Williams is nothing but a tedious show off.

  • Hyperwhizzkid you cannot be serious!...

  • Great tune- with an important message contained !

    Thanks 4 posting it.

  • This was the best song of the 90s, without question.

  • Robbie Williams before Robbie

  • Classic indeed!

  • a great song..... pure classic....

  • There sumthin wrong with human nay-cha!

used to love this - would blast around the super hang-on track with this in the background..

  • Tip-top old-skool flava....

  • lana pellay love it

  • Them indeed were the days. On-U Sound in the area!

  • I'm sure the LP track was slightly different to this one.

    A bit less flashy maybe.

  • It is different, I'm listening to it right now. I've got the Human Nature album if anyone wants a copy :)

  • Hi Gary, this is Martin your Brother.... If you read this can you give me a ring ??? Ted and Julie have my number...

    All the best Martin

  • she is so hot!!! wow!!

    thanksSszsz lj

  • Gary is playing at my birthday party Dec 6th 2008. Surrey venue. I have a few free tickets to give away to hardcore fans. Be in touch if interested.

  • HI Andy,

Haven't seen Gary for ages, I hope he is well & happy, please say w'happen and hello to him for me.

He would know me as Tina from Megadog.

Hope the paaaarty goes well BTW

    Tina

Tickets would be great of you have any spare

  • bumshanks!

  • what a fookin tune , i cannot say how much how much this means to me

  • More fuck*ing relevant than ever now capitalism is going down. Join us and fight!

  • this really stands the test of time! great track.

  • Loved this soon as I heard it - great lyrics. Late 80's early 90's produced some stormin dance tracks! Very creative period for dance music.

  • i like the video but i love the song more :)

  • tbh I preferred the instrumental version

  • The only point I would quibble with is that its unlikely someone would gaze down from a penthouse suite looking at people sleeping rough. Surely the police would have moved them on to a less wealthy part of the city. Other than that great tune

  • And it not really human nature just simple biology...would you really want some tramp stinking out your flash pad? I doubt it. It all comes down to body odour I think.

  • There are many places in the world where the poorest and richest live cheek by jowl

  • This just doesn't do it for me anymore.

  • Brings back happy memories of a misspent youth in Brighton. Hanging out, getting stoned and not bothering to turn up at college..

  • This should be a compulsory part of the music curriculum. Put in in philosophy and R.E. too. 1991 - got married, Hibs won the League Cup and out clubbing with the missus to this - class!
