no pond scum has millions of little creatures and plants like snails shrimp cepholopods and orthropods. There are lots of small plants in it to so just useing shrimp would suck
i believe any aquarium plant would do but the guy was using hornwort.. you can find those easily at your local petstore such as petsmart. hornwort is probably easier to keep than the other plants the store have to sell
Depents on your water. Often regular tap water has chlor and sometimes fluorid in it, (to keep it clean, its very very little, way less than in a swimming pool) Some put declorizer in it (to get the PH etc stable) but if you live on the country side and people are warning the city dudes not to drink the water than you can just put in the jar. I have water from a old well in mine. Mine is also 4 times bigger than that guys. So, it depents. You could ofcourse try it with tap and see what happends
