The Delta Queen is in amazing condition, My wife and I stayed on her a few nights last week, and it was wonderful. She is fully operational and is able to travel at anytime only if the government will allow it. She is truly a spectacular vessel.
what a perfect tune to listen to cruising along the inland waterway's in a steamer like the Delta Queen.
bring's tear's to your eye's as It was a simple time and before all the rushing of modern society.
It's Instantly 1865 and someone is playing banjo on the front deck as the smoke is furling out the fummel's and people are mosying up and down talking or listening to the music.
too bad about the Queen. She was a beautiful ship. we rode on it many years ago from Davenport, Iowa to Prairie DuChein, Wisconsin. It was so much fun. something we will never forget.
hi im rather late on this is the misissippi delta queen okay i can remember watching a documentary movie about 1970 about a mississippi river boat that was built in glassgow scotland could it be the same one i hope she his still steaming along the mississipi she is so majestic love the steam whistle too
@paulboon this is the one you probably read about. sadly she hasnt been runnin the rivers for more than 2 years. shes a floating hotel in chattanooga. she can still run if our idiots in congress would permit her
@paulboon this is the one you probably read about. sadly she hasnt been runnin the rivers for more than 2 years. shes a floating hotel in chattanooga. she can still run if our idiots in congress would permit her. like they havent scwrewed up anything else. its the democrat jim oberstar who ruined her.
Jim Oberstart forgets:The Sultana blew up due to weak patches on her boiler and had no fire watch on duty. The Delta Queen boiler was safety checked annually and there is a roving fire watch everytime there were passengers, there were several layers of fire protection-fire main, fire extinguishers and fixed fire system PLUS the vessel had more life boats than the boat was rated to carry passngers. The boat was and is safe.
you know I think that congressman needs to look at something,,,,he said that the delta queen was old,,,YES BUT THAT CONGRESSMAN IS OLD TOO,, BUT HES STILL GOING,,WHY DOESNT HE RETIRE ,,,AND NOT THE DELTA QUEEN
@andywatson55 Oberstar was voted out of office...next step for him is a bad nursing home...hopefully the Queen will be purchased by Save the Delta Queen 2010 and return to the rivers soon.
What a shame. Oberstar ignored all the safety built into the DQ. Living next door to Minnesota, the state where absolutely nothing is allowed, I will make it a personal quest to make sure he looses his seat.
I do hope in times to come, another generation will get to see the Delta Queen slowly amble up the Mississippi River on a quiet summer evening, the strains of her calliope fill the night air.
It's a shame that she's gone, and the MG and AQ have followed, but only because Majestic America was forced to put them up for sale. See what Oberstar did, we no longer have overnight riverboats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God save the Delta Queen! And a very special thanks too Minnesota's Senator Jim Oberstar and Hawaiis Senator Daniel K. Inouye For making sure this making sure the Senate will never even get to vote on this exemption.
I'm a river rat from Rising Sun, Indiana and wanted to let you know that this video is one of the best DQ videos that I have seen! Especially loved the last song that was played by the callipoe...the DQ used to play this song when coming into Rising Sun as it was Rising Sun High School's fight song. Thanks for the memories. I wanna go back to the river...
Many years ago, I worked on "The Big Delta" but I can't place where this video was taken. I really enjoy watching this, tho. I was always on the boat and never saw the boat from these vantage points.

I like very much this boat, for me is like a living with a soul.
Delta queen have sensual curvesand I am sure that the water stirred by its mills back, should tickle the fish.
Wonderful vidéo, and wonderful "Banjo sunset"!!
Thank you for partage!!!!

she is actually safer then any boat in the water, all the cabins have a door opening to a balcony. and an iron hull
