SNAFU is an acronym that stands for situation normal: all fucked up. It is sometimes bowdlerized to all fouled up or similar.[1] In simple terms, it means that the normal situation is in a bad state, as it always is, therefore nothing unexpected. It is usually used in jest, or as a sign of frustration. The acronym is believed to have originated in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
Thanks for posting this! I recently bought a pressure cooker (although not as nice as yours) and I'm afraid to use it! My mom had a snafu with her's when cooking lentils.
I'm sure the newer P cooker models have more safety features than my mom's.
@Reddylion There's a little slot on the side where if the pressure were to become too high it would just push out the gasket a little and release the steam... at least that's how it should work. I haven't heard of any problems with modern pressure cookers like these.
Wow that's fancy pressure cooker:-) I have the plain simple one from presto:-( I cook chicken drumsticks in mine 25-30 minutes. I'd like to cook more things in my pressure cooker?
@LifesHardLessons Don't downplay your Presto pressure cooker - they are wonderful too! Now we just need to convince you to cook more plant-based foods in it! :-) We do need to add more pressure cooker recipes to the site. Keep checking in.
Just bought a pressure cooker from a Goodwill type store yesterday for 9 bucks. This cooker came with 3 little weight like things that sit on top of the stem value but how do I tell which weight to use?
@TheBgcheez Good question. It depends on what kind of pressure cooker it is! Look up the brand on the internet and find the link to the instruction manuals. While you're at it, check the gasket to make sure it is pliable and free of cracks or tears.
@Cohn27 The cooker shown in the video only cooks at high pressure - 15psi. If you cook at low pressure often, purchase a cooker that also has 5-8psi as an option. Several electric pressure cookers have high and low settings and most major pressure cooker companies make at least one style that has both options.
Thanks for a nice tutorial.

can you use a rice cooker to cook garbanzo beans the same as using a pressure cooker?
pokeythepatriot777 4 months ago
@pokeythepatriot777
No. a rice cooker cooks with steam only, where a pressure cooker cooks with pressurized steam. Very different.

do you need to add oil to beans to prevent them from foaming and disrupting the pressure/steam valve?

With this cooker how do you know if you are cooking at high or low pressure? It seems some recipes specify cooking at a low and some a high pressure.
