the funny thing is that people demand you speak Luxemburgish, and sometimes they really make a big fuss out of it...but after alll.... sorry! Luxemburgish is not even recognized the EU as an official language; just visit the website of europa.eu and you will see how all articles been translated into all european languages apart from in Luxemburgish.
Seems like you had a nice time, just want to tell you that luxembourgish is the main language in Luxembourg. It might not seem so if you aonly stay in the city and judgr by the people working in shops and resturants as they are mostly foreigners. Luxembourgers don't work in shops and mostly live outside the city
Little country , more languages , Luxembourg speaks Letzbuergesch(Luxembourguish), French and German. I regret my Bearn can't speaks more Bearnese(Occitan-Gascon official till 1789, the kingdom of Bearn-Navarre became french in 1620 by annexion), and then French and Spanish and other languages.
France is self centered and don't respect linguistic diversity.
I regret Bearn-Navarre became a part of a country France which do not respect its languages. I like France but not that France.
if you want to live in that country, you should learn its language; it doesn't matter how many countries speak that language. Otherwise you might become a mighty lonesome person in that country. Trying to learn your host country's language shows that you appreciate its people (and buys you many a Dikkrech, Mousel, Bofferdeng while you try our your Luxembourgish...)
luxembourgish is the primary language and not french. especially you as a german should know that. Because i m luxembourgish and i dont like to speak french. ok if you search something about Lux. in the net or in a dictionary you mostly find french as our primary language but that s not true at all.
Well, they live in OUR country, so they can at least show some 'friendlyness' and try to understand it! Wouldn't you be upset if you go to the bakery and want to buy some bread and the shop assistant even doesn't WANT to understand you?
Well, if I visit a country, I try to know atleast things like Hello, Bye, Thanks, You're welcome.
PS: I didn't vote for him. I think he's an a**hole.
Yes indeed. People who settle themselves in Luxemburg should learn Luxembourgish. I really can't understand while all of the cities' and villages' websites are only in French, when it is the least spoken language in Luxembourg of ALL 3 official languages. French imperialism anybody?
Don't learn French... most French-speaking people are self-centered idiots too lazy to discover other cultures... learn Luxembourgish and German instead !
Luxembourgish is 1 of the most awesome languages in the world but the french have made us change it so we use sum of there words like merci and portemonnaie but theres a sort of ancient-luxembourgish language called jeinesh wich is completeley diffrent bloody french (nönönö)
okay, lux is maybe the primary langage, but I think is more important learning french or german cause I don't see the utility of learning a langage that is just spoken by a few people on the earth (300 000 people), i find it so stupid losing time and money to learn luxemburgish, sorry
@grandvito55 Luxembourgeois, Français, Allemand, les 3 langues sont les langues nationales du pays, il n'y a pas de "primary language" ou autre délire, il y'a bien 3 officielles au luxembourg sur un même pied d'égalité.
@grandvito55 Places like Luxembourg or Switzerland win *because* the lax attitude towards languages. The day you force people to learn your language, you will be picking up your own garbage, fixing your cars and waiting in restaurants, instead of working in banks.
@LMB222 as you dont live in Luxembourg, you cant know how less luxembourgish people actually work in banks. And most of my friends are doing their living without sitting behind a desk in a bank. and i will not force somebody to learn Luxembourgish but still it's an act of respect to understand luxembourgish; or learn French, German or English.
and we can morer what we need to can is :german luxemburgish french english than we learn hollands spain italiich greek ... so a nice people and can go evrywhere and we always understand all :) just that my english isnt s perfect :p
