  • what's the difference between D2 and the carbon steel used in the regular kabars?

  • This version i thought about getting when checking the price, but i don't like the syrations (spelling?)

    So i'll get another.. :P

  • Is this knife good for killing and utility

  • @Ascenscion123 Killin gooks I tell ya hwut

  • @Ascenscion123 the ka-bar was made for the marines...i think it is good for killing

  • is the guy a fucking retard with a paintball mask on?

  • @lettermen15 Your a retard, probably for safet.

  • wow man 5:35

  • @hayley676 Noss broke the tip too!

  • @playmaka2007 Yeah, but not on wood.

  • what do u think about the d2? is it better then 1095? some say its brittle and hard to sharp. is that true?

  • @Pyro7502 I believe d2 is slightly corrosion resistant. As for 1095 its a very tough steel its not brittle but it is hard to sharpen casue just got done giveing my 1095 knife a flat edge and it took hours but its not impossible to sharpen.

  • @conservative95 D2 is stronger

  • @conservative95 It's more than slightly corrosion resistant, actually. It almost contains enough chromium to be considered stainless. D2 also has a much higher carbon content, though, so it's much harder and stronger than 1095.

  • @RoninEnsse Im sure d2 is stronger,but a true stainless steel must have a 13% chromium content, while d2 has either a 12 or 11% chromium content.

  • @conservative95 Actually, I think 14% is required to be considered "stainless". D2 can range from 11-13% in chromium content. Regardless, its chromium content is significant enough to provide quite a bit of corrosion resistance. As for "true stainless steel", no steel is truly stainless. Any steel will stain or rust given the right conditions. Stainless steel just resists corrosion better than carbon and tool steels.

  • @RoninEnsse I got my info from a blacksmith and online, so I think I know what im talking about. And when I said true stainless I meant that it is in the stainless category I didnt mean perfectly stainless.

  • @conservative95 Yes, sorry, you were right about that. I had gone back and checked since I posted that, and saw that I hadn't remembered that correctly. And speaking of which, I have spoken with a couple bladesmiths before too, and own Jim Hrisoulas' book, The Complete Bladesmith, for my own studying purposes. I want to be a custom bladesmith, myself, but haven't been able to buy the tools and supplies I need to get started yet.

  • @RoninEnsse Thats awsome! Keep working at it.

  • @Pyro7502 It's very hard to say whether or not any kind of steel is better. Honestly, it depends on the applications. In this case, with what the knife is designed for, D2 is better suited than 1095. It's an incredibly strong steel, and it will keep a sharp edge for a long time. I wouldn't say it's brittle, though. For its use in knives, it's actually surprisingly tough, considering its carbon and chromium contents. This is because its well-balanced with vanadium, nickel, silicon, etc.

  • Is it better to get the ka-bar with the teeth on it, or the plain edge?

  • @thedarkdomino That depends on your own preferences, and whether or not you think you'll need the serrations. I personally prefer plain edges, but serrations come in handy for utility purposes.

  • That thing does WORK

  • Hey man thanks for the demo! I just got one and feel good that it can take a beating in normal tasks! Now I don't have to find out for myself!

  • anyone who doubts the sharpness of a kabar doesnt know much about knives.

  • what a shame

  • Hey noss, how much abuse did it take to chip the d2 blade? thanks

  • wast of money and a good knife

  • now stab yourself with it and see what it does

  • that is a great knife!!!! People put those under their beds for when intruders break in! It is a back up from their fire arm.

  • This must be quite good grip strengt training. :)

  • yeah i know this is a DESTRUCTION test but he can not say anithing negative about the blade because he didnt take the time to sharpen it thats like saying, this blade is really dull and i dont feel like sharpening it then saying after testing its not really sharp, you cant say it didnt hold and edge because he didnt give it an edge to begin with makeing all edge retention tests bullshit because he didnt give it a damn edge

  • I'm not sure what to think between your paintball mask and your "digging". no man should ever be subject to watching you dig through a 2x4 with a ka-bar. the only practical use for that would be digging though a ROTTEN tree for grubs.. you nee better tests.

  • lol whats with the soccer ball button? XD

  • @KentuckyFriedHuman dude that's what I was wondering!!!!! like wtf???

i figured it had to do with the FIFA world cup, but it sounds messed up!!!!!

  • @eatifier lol ya, its on most you tube videos now, idk why but i cant resist pushing it! XD

  • this was painful to watch

  • watching you dig through with that awesome ka bar made me cringe soo much. i hade to fast fwd it was too much to bear

  • good tests so far but basically useless because he didnt take the time to put a good blade on it, meaning that these tests only show what it can do with DULL blade not a sharp blade, so any negative statements about it are incorrect because he started dull. the only problem is he is expecting a Combat knife to chop wood, in a survival situation you would not use a combat knife, most forces that would have to deal with that type of situation have an additional utility knife, but good stress test

  • he really doesn't care about the abuse he's putting on the blade since it was donated used in the first place

  • nice job destroying your knife

  • you are ABUSING that knife dude.

  • kewl

  • how is the weight and balance of this knife?

  • Anyone who thinks this knife was made "only to kill" is a fucking idiot who clearly only watches movies.

You think that's all we use our knives for? Ignorant bastards.

  • your right a knife is only a tool that can be used as a self defense weapon if needed

  • waste

  • lol.."we are going to go ahead and dig a hole threw a 2/4 like i always do"

  • @kidmalinko

    through...

  • could u send me the broken knives?

    ill pay for shipping

  • u have a whole lot of wood at ur disposial

  • Gonna suck when we're out of wood and we see a video like this,

  • last time i checked, human flesh didn't contain thick sheet metal.

  • it's a stress test...

  • He's just seeing what it takes to break the fucking knife, not trying to make a statement.

  • I once knew a marine from iceland named thor who carried a steel mallet.

He died a horrible death though...got bit by a big snake

  • ProSniper777: he's testing the knife. what would you want? cut some meat until it gets dull? that would take a few days on non-stop cutting. cutting metal speeds the process of dulling and wear off the knife. was that hard to understand that?

  • You are misinformed from Hollywood to think is made for killing. Basic weapon for a soldier is a bullet weapon, any knife can kill a person. Knife is made for cutting, survival, food gathering in extreme conditions, some minor construction and rarely for killing as you have to get very close.

Kids that live in the movies with heroes i guess...

  • @geekpubb Actually some blade types are designed for killing. Like the tanto blade style, originally used in japanese swords, used for killing. Now used in many tactical knives. The tanto blade, if used in utility cutting, it will dull the secondary edge. you are misinformed, by thinking that all a soldier uses to kill is a gun.

  • Great test work

  • want to sell it?

  • I've got one for sale....with 2 different sheaths....

  • ebay?

  • some day your gonna stab yourself doing those stabbing tests!! :)

  • i have a 1211 ka-bar with and 1095 steel. i was trying to see how sharp it was buy cutting a box which it did will, but i damage the blade when i hit my marble table. took a chunk out of the table too though. then i barely it the tip and it damage it

  • ahhh such a beautiful knife being destroyed lol. D2 is a bit more brittle than 1095 though, so the i guessed that the tip would break off like that.

  • thats because it was meant for only one reason to kill. if you go on ka bars website you will find marines and army knives that are the exact model as the one in the video.

  • thats a amazing knife

  • why?

  • i wanna know when tha hell r u gunna need to dig a hole in a 2x4 and when tha hell r u gunna hafto penitrate heavy sheet metal?

  • you arent very smart are you? its an abuse test, to see what kind of punishment the knife can take BEYOND ordinary circumstances. its like testing your car in a 150 mph crash, sure you arent likely to be going that fast, but if you were, you would sure as hell want to know the limits of your vehicle.

  • and you never know ;)

  • one thing you never hit a knife with metal u use wood because the hammer deforms the blade the wood provides force without destroying the blade im sorry but it is incredable stupid to hit it with a metal mallet notice what happens to old hammers pieces of metal bending and deforming not what u want on a knife

  • @metalhead192 It's a destruction test for a reason.

  • @PMCMANIS You know the old saying, "don't judge a book by its cover," well I think this is a situation where you should atleast read the cover (aka title) and you would see it's a destruction test; not a every day use test.

  • @tohairylittlewomen are you drunk or do you need hooked on phonics?

  • @PMCMANIS Who stuck a ka-bar up your bum? Buddy I was trying to respond to the person you were critiquing, but u didn't have a person quoted. Take a few deep breaths and chill.

  • i tried "digging" through wood with my d2 extreme and it broke the bloody tip off, not a good idea

  • @hayley676 that's why he did the test, so you don't have to

  • @hayley676 you see in the video that when the resistance gets too high, he doesn't yank on the blade but instead tries a different spot

  • @hayley676 the same happened to my knife. how did you fix it? or warrant it?

    can it be re-grinded?

  • @jaysucks312 You can regrind the tip back on it, but depending on how far back you broke how much knife you will lose.

  • @hayley676

    lolololol

  • @hayley676 Well, your was either faulty, or this guy got an above average one (or the wood he used was softer). My dad's old Ka-bar's tip broke off a long time ago too, but he had one of the standard USMC Ka-bar knives.

  • no way...id take D2 over 1095 any day of the week.

  • I can't get my Ka-bar out of the kydex case without dulling it
