One of my all-time favorite tours! I loved the way they began the show with the short film setting up the story, then suddenly lit up the stage (same one as seen here) as Mr. Roboto started playing...
@SnareForLife1995 he didnt leave this tour. he left the band after this tour. Partly becuase of the fact he didnt like the way dennis was taking th band and partly becuase he didnt like deniis anywys
@nicholasfarrell76 n, he left in the middle and A & M called it a hand problem but tommy left and when he came back he said no robtos or i leave but he did leave the band after the tour was done
how funny, after being critical of a "production" show with "lines" and "costumes" Tommy is cashing what he can make off of Rock of Ages now, but splitting it with Kevin Cronin(REO) seems like Dennis wasn't too far off, just 30 yrs...visionary? I'm sure Dennis might take a phone call...pal!
It was an amazing concert. Like nothing else of the time. I still have a T-Shirt from it:-) Unfortunately it wasn't a huge success and fueled tensions in the band. There is no Styx without Dennis.
This was an era in music that was amazing. If you were not there, I am sorry, but you missed it. My tastes in music have changed also, but these were the best of times.
@nobadges What? Canada has classic rock stations? Ah, i was thinking you got some faggot country stations... like cowboys hardly playing with the lazo...
BTW i love country and, indeed, i'm not gay. You know what i mean?
@SpudAlmighty Dennis deyoung wanted to save kilroy for a solo project but A&M wanted styx to have ONE more album. Dennis used this opprutunity to make the Kilroy was here album with Styx.
@bryandamadman Well... The Who did it. And Queen did Bohemian Rhapsody. And both those concepts were WAY out there. What makes this so impossible? GWAR doing ballet? THAT is impossible.
Man, the band isn't the same without DeYoung partying on stage with them all, they had so much fun on stage it looks awesome! If only I was alive in the 80's
dude, this is real music. Music before it lost the soul and fun. Music when you needed skill to be on stage, not a hundred voice modulators and back up dancers. They're havin' a real ball on stage, really enjoying themselves. It's not gay, it's the way music came along before modern times screwed it all up.
I think the only way to own this recording is to buy the "Caught in the Act" dvd, (I'm not even sure that it's on that). This song isn't on any album. This was the finale to their 1983 "Kilroy was Here" show. I saw a show on that tour and it was alternately entertaining and embarrassing. The music was awesome being the audience tended laugh as the poor band acted out their "roles" onstage. It was a bad idea and it essentially broke up the band. The DVD is pretty fascinating to watch, though.
This DVD was recorded over 4 nights at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. I was at the 2nd of the 4, and it was one of the most fun concerts I've ever been to, although the acting by the band members on-stage was beyond cheesy. The Saenger was absolutely ravaged by Katrina, and they finally announced plans to restore it a few months ago.
This song is on the Kilroy Was Here album (last song on Side Two of the album). The live version is only on the Caught In The Act concert film. The studio version of this reprise while good hasn't aged well whilst this live version sounds like it was recorded yesterday. What I like about the live version is the extended intro and outro plus Dennis DeYoung shouts out The Coasters, The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
Kilroy was here. last song after (i think) haven't we been here before (an excelent song too) for sure it's on Kilroy was Here though. It also had Mr. Roboto (domo arigoto mr roboto), heavy metal poisoning and cold war.
Hey, styxfan! Doesn't this DVD also have the video for the normal version of this song? I believe the guys are in the jail when they sing it. Read about it & thought it would be interesting to see them in jailsuits. Could you possibly post it? :-)
The video is on the Caught In The Act DVD as is all of the promo videos from Cornerstone, Paradise Theatre, Kilroy Was Here and even "Music Time" and the original promo film of "Come Sail Away".
@jessnc88 It was amazing...I saw them on this tour, 2 days in a row. So much fun, and they were a great band live. Miss DDY not being the front man any longer :(
i love hoy many random girls come on stage during the whole concert
and if only everyone can lern to play guitar that fast(lol)
many poeple pay attention to the lyrics and melody in this song,(there really great) but u need to really listen to the rythem of john pannazozzo on the durms
I personally am not a big fan of the kilroy stuff but GOD are the songs catchy.
