@birgitnilsson Transposed down is not bad or anything, its just 'transposed down'. It's in no way a judgement about the artistry of the singer in question. We all know that Sutherland had certain roles and passages transposed for her (either up or down) to suit her voice. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Singers used to do that alle the time in the old days, before there where any recordings. Even nowedays (clever)singers have music transposed to suit there voices better.
@edgarbiervliet Thank you very much for your polite answer. I knew something about it, but very little. What you say is quite enlightening. It will help me see things from a different point of view.
I love June and her gorgeous voice get's 5 stars, but the vocal shortcuts to avoid the low notes take away from the music and dramatic purpose. Joan did the same exact thing and avoided the low notes, never singing the low B's written.
You are absolutely right. Richard even completely rewrote several passages from the opera in order for Joan to never have to dip into the low register.
Why is this opera not heard more commonly? It is a spectacular thing. Besides. Who does not find Henry VIII more than a tad interesting?

That might also be because Joan Sutherland had Anna Bolena transposed down, so it would even have been lower in her case.
