Rourke's tone is a classic one, here's how to nail it: 1) P-Bass with tone at max 2) Play with a pick near the bridge 3)Steel roundwound strings, Rourke probably used Rotosounds though I'm not sure.
Set your amp flat, maybe dial in more treble depending on your preference.
Excellent!
I love your "Headmaster Ritual" ,too.
I wish I could play like you.

extremely good cover mate,
andy rourke is most definitely one of the most underrated bassists ever, he created some of the best bass lines ive ever heard

Beautiful, as all your bass covers. But the bass itself is not beautiful...

That's fantastic, really brilliantly worked out and played. I knew Rourke was good but I had no idea how funky he was until I heard this!

you may need to raise your strings a bit

Thank you for posting, such a beautiful bassline, and one of their greatest songs.

I spoke to Rourke at a DJ gig in Baltimore and he said he recorded almost exclusively with a Yamaha BB2000. He did play a P-Bass at gigs.

That would be the bass on the inside of the Hatful of Hollow sleeve. I believe Andy sold it a while back.

I heard that Johnny Marr wrote the basslines, but yeah Rourke is seriously underrated. Also, Rourke almost always used a Yamaha BB2000 for recording.

I would feel a mixture of dissapointment in Rourke and utter awe at Marr if that is true.

Rourke wrote the basslines. He said that they were written to compliment Marr's guitar.

superb. I also play this song, one of my favorite. I tought that Andy's tone can't be reproduced. I was wrong...
