They made the new impreza range focused on the lower end, (which competes with civics ect.), and watered/sofened the WRX's and STi's down to be more like family transport. Fact is in Japan the WRX hasn't been realesed yet, what we call the WRX is just an SGT there. Their WRX when realesed will replace this poser version next year.

I never said anything about the WRC. The SCCA's rally division is not very good, it is mainly just for weekend warriors who want to get the most out of their Scoobies. All I said is that I heard that Solberg decided that he wanted to race in a different class (never said anthing about the WRC) from my cousin.

That's kinda weird coming from someone that used to participate in Rallying... The Hatchback is very good for the WRC (as evident in Ford and Citroen's Hatchback WRC Cars) because of it's short overhang, rigid body, and long wheelbase... The Group N 08 STi has actually proven itself to be better than the outgoing Group N model (see next post)

The Japanese STi's have a 2.0L boxer with a Twin Scroll Turbo (EJ20)... 308bhp and 311TQ... US/UK versions get a 2.5L with a single scroll Turbo... 305bhp and 290TQ, but the torque comes in earlier... Japan STi's also get better Bridgestone Potenza RE050 tires, while US/UK gets inferior Dunlop SP600s, as well as stock factory settings that present more understeer. Easily correctable with a few minor camber adjustments.

Why Audi and BMW or Mercedez are not in WRC?, Because they dont make cars for that kind of competitions, they won't stand it, they barely run in the WTCC and always get beated by Honda or Seat (even though Seat is from Spain).

after reading the understeer comments...

I don't think you understand how STI's behave on the track. the front slips first and then the limited slip kicks in and pulls you through the corner. while it may not satisfy the spectator. as a driver, it is really easy to control and push to the absolute limit. it is more difficult to regain composure after oversteer and stay on the best line.

peter is driving the car how he likes, if he wants kick the rear out believe you me, he can.

Petter Solberg is a great driver and I agree with zerotypera, a few well chosen spings and damper settings and it would would be pretty sideways. I also like the additute and childishness of the '08 model. there was alot of oversteer on afew of those turns.

I think it was understeering due to having a stock setup and possibly Petter didn't dial in the settings.

Remeber it's a stock STi, I am sure with a few well chosen handling items the understeer can be dialed out.
