was on a lp album My brother and I played to death late fifties,. I gradually came around to the slower tunes on it like this and wee wee hours as my faves as I grew older . Maybe called One dozen berrys? anyway all of them are gems. My fave? Bye Bye Johnny (wasn't on the lp though)
Isn't it a coincidence that this song sounds just like the original "Louie Louie" that was written and performed by Richard Berry? I wonder if Richard and Chuck are related.
Richard Berry (no relation to Chuck) wrote "Louie Louie" in 1957. I read where he said his inspiration was " Havana Moon". Play them in sequence, this one first, and you will hear the connection.
Luv It! Been so long since I heard this one. When I was a teenager, I loved this song and never knew this was Chuck Berry singing. So calypso! Talented man.
Lyrics, part 3 of 3 Havana moon, Havana moon. Me lay down alone, was good, de rum. Me fall asleep, de boat she come. De girl she look till come de dawn. She weep and cry, return for home. De whistle blow, me open me eyes. Was bright de sun, was blue de skies Me grab me shoes, me jump and run, Me see de boat head for horizon. Havana moon, is gone de rum. De boat she sail, me love she gone. Havana moon, Havana moon.
Lyrics, part 2 of 3 Havana moon, Havana moon, Me still alone, me sip on de rum. Me wonder when, de boat she come, To bring me love, ow! sweet little thing. She rock an' roll, she dance and sing. She hold me tight, she touch me lips. Me eyes dey close, me heart she flip. Havana moon, Havana moon, But still alone, me drinkin' de rum. Begin to think de boat no come. American girl, she tell a lie, She say, "Till then," she mean goodbye.
Lyrics, part 1 of 3 Havana moon, Havana moon, Me all alone with jug o' rum. Me stand and wait for boat to come. It's long de night, it's quiet de dock, Da boat she late, since 12 o'clock. Me watch de tide easin' in, Is low de moon, but high de wind. Havana moon, Havana moon, Me all alone, me open de rum. It's long de wait for boat to come. American girl come back to me, We'll sail away across de sea. We'll dock in New York, de buildin's high. We find a home up in de sky.
chromatics riddims right 123 1234 - 123 12345 - 1234 123 right she there she rock and roll she dance and sing me eyes they close was good ear, um... ME OPEN ME EYES forget you say WAS BRIGHTEST SUN, WAS BLUEST the SKIES
Don't get your hopes too high. He's old. Really old. He can barely sing and play, but he's still the same guy. If you're okay with that, by all means go see him if you can.
prefiero la vercion de carlos santana ya que esa vercion fue muy buena ya que este video usa la misma portada que uso carlos para lanasar su disco ABANA MOON
The original came out in 1957 by Chuck Berry from his "After School Session" LP (his first LP). It was re-recorded for his 1979 LP "Rock It". And yes, Chuck wrote the song. The song was also an inspiration for the late Richard Berry to write "Louie Louie", after hearing the song along with "El Loco Cha Cha" by Ricky Rillera.
Its my name now:)
HavanahMoon, my parents named me after
they heard it on a tape they bought.

Hardly rock -'n-roll, but such a catching song about a guy who, due to too much rum, misses his boat to america !!

Chuck Berry is NOT the king of Rock’n Roll. He is a Pedophile and a thief the sooner people realize this the better.

The lusty howl he gives right after "To bring me love" has to be one of the best screams in RNR. A young dude on the prowl...
