I got in love with this song when I was, I think 5 or 6. And 'til now, this made me cry, always makes me cry. I have to admit Kermit's version was indeed a legend. And Sarah McLachlan's flawless. R.I.P Mr. Henson.
Wonderful video...thanks. If I had the time an the proper sources...I'd write a screen play based off of his life. I'd call it "The Rainbow Connection"...unfortunately I don't:(
Yeah, that was actually unintentional...I didn't realize what was going on in that picture until I had already made the video. When I first saw the pic I just thought it was a pic of Kermit looking sad, lol.
I remember in High School a few years back and one of our Homecoming days was called "Hero Day" where people would dress up as hero's of all kinds
I could only think of one guy, it was Jim Henson, and as such I didn't wear a costume but printed out a big photo of him and Kermit and put down on the side "Heroes aren't only people who DO great things but those who inspire others to do the same"
Rest in Peace Jim, bet you're entertaining folk in Heaven as much as you did here
Thank you so much...this brought tears to my eyes. While others have named actors, scientists, leaders, etc as their heroes....I have alway held my loyalty to Jim Henson. He was brilliant and I envy this man's talent and creativity...as well as passion for his craft. Beautiful video!
I live in Trinidad and I grew up watching Sesame Street, and today I am still a big fan. I spend time on youtube looking at the old clips. This man has brought so much joy into my childhood with his Muppets. He was a genius! Many thanks to you Jim Henson, you brought so much laughter to the world. R.I.P
I do believe any one of us touched by Jim's work carries a bit of his wonderful vision inside of each of us. It is only up to us to decide whether or not we wish to act on said vision, though.
"My ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in the world. My hope still is to make the world a little better for my having been here."~Jim
You done good, Jim, at least in my eyes. God bless you, for you're missed dearly!
I was a little kid in the US when Sesame Street started. I loved it even when I was too old for it, mostly for the Muppets. I was so delighted to come across The Muppet Show as a teenager in Ireland. My little brothers and sisters loved it, and so did my parents. My kids love the Muppets too. Three generations. Not a bad life's work, Jim.
Thank you for showing that once again, there are people out there who more then missing the entertainment, can appreciate the genius, generosity, and vision of a truly blessed person. He is still missed sorely by many.. i can feel it in my chest every time i lose myself in one of these tributes. I just tell myself it's jim reminding me not to give up on my own dreams in my life (i'm a pupetter/filmmaker as well). Thanks again for the support
Jim was definitely a very unique and gifted individual who will never be forgotten. I appreciate those people who are trying to keep puppeteering alive in the age of technology and CGI, so I wish you the best of luck in your filmmaking. :)
THis was a wonderful tribute. And I admit it. I cried at 1:35. The world would have smiled less without this genius of a man. Love the muppets, love Jim Henson!
Aw, thanks very much. :) I grew up on these shows as well, and still enjoy them as much now as I did then. Actually, I enjoy them MORE now that I'm old enough to understand some of the little nuances that Jim and Co added in that went over my head as a kid.
The man was a genius, and will never be forgotten. :)
Im so glad I glad I grew up in the 90's (Im 23 now) cuz there was something about them muppets that I just loved! Its a shame they dont show them anymore:( Its seem like most of the kids shows today are all done behind a green screen which is cool but Jim Henson and his crew did all the work by hand. Although Im grown now, if they played some of his shows now, I would soooooo watch them lol my VHS recordings are getting kinda worn out:)
You can buy DVDs of the muppet Show, and seasons of Sesame Street, I believe. Try the local Library or Ebay. We got really cool Muppet Show DVDs from Netflix. :D I was born several years after Jim died, but his work will live on, so long as there are people left who beleive in it.
Truer words have never been spoken. :) I think there are enough people nowadays who can still appreciate Jim's brilliance and creativity when they see it, as evidenced by all the comments for my video.
I appreciate you all watching this...it's good to know I'm not alone in my admiration for Jim and the Muppets!
Wow, 18 years? I would've been 9 at the time then. I don't think I really realized the impact of his death at the time...but personally I think it was one of the most important losses in the history of showbiz...the Muppets haven't been the same since, nor will they ever be.
I remember he died on the same day as Sammy Davis Jr, too...random fact I just thought I'd throw in there.
Beautiful! Tears still roll down my face, such a magical person that had so much imagination, you can only wonder what others wonders would have come along...thank you for sharing this!
Dude, this video rocks! Jim Henson gave me so much as a child, from Sesame Street to the Muppets to Fragglerock to Dark Crystal to Labyrinth. And excellent choice on the song! Even though he's passed he's still a child legend. As they said in Sandlot: Heroes get remembered but Legends never die.
That was fantastic ......... makes me think back to when i was a kid. I loved the muppets and so did everyone else i know. There is nothing on TV for kids/adults now that even comes close to this type of entertainment. Thanks heaps for that one. Absolutely brilliant.
Y'know what, to be honest with you, I didn't even realize that that's what he's doing in that picture until someone pointed it out to me after I posted this video.
I just thought it was a shot of him looking 'somber'...it didn't even see the needle and stuff. So that was my mistake, no ill intent meant! I love Jim Henson and the Muppets too much to dis them in any way. :)
THAT WAS FANTASTIC!!!! I think Jim Henson left his mark on the world and created characters that we all love. My favorite of all times is Kermit the frog, my heart will always belong to Kermie.....sorry Miss Piggy! From one fan to another, thank you, sniff, sniff that was touching.
Loved the vid man, I'm totally a fan of all things Jim Henson. (But the Fraggles were my favorite XD) So sad that he died, he was a wonderful person, with an imagination just as wonderful. He will be missed.
